Whoa! Not something I would of done ( actually sounds scary as hell )....but it seems like it worked out for him. Motel surgery isn't something I'd suggest anyone do. And even though barbaric .....seems like that doctor knew what he was doing ( kind of )

Mat is a special case. Grinning

Having known both he and TP199, I'd say they're very much cut from the same cloth. They were also both willing to lay it all on the line to advance their sports.

I watched that in the office the other day, cringing all the way through.

How could someone be stupid enough to try something like that. I mean OMG. If it is true and everything is ok, I'm so happy for him. But damn, that is beyond bad judgment.

It's weird when you start referring to medical procedures and use the phrase "turn around time." Are we getting medical procedures done or getting parts sent out for powder coating?

I cringed just listening to him talk about doing it. No way I could go through it.

My acl replacement was the worst thing ive experienced. A year later it was still feeling like crap. A week is incredible.

I saw a documentary about him and it mentioned how he used to carry around his own stitch kit because he was tired of going to the hospital for stitches!Shocked If he got a deep cut, oh well, I'll just stitch myself up!Laughing He was a little before my time but that guy was nothing short of incredible, I can't imagine being able to handle the pain he's gone through over the years, bad ass to the highest degree for sure.

Isn't this what Davi Millsaps got done over here in Australia? I mean a lars ligament but obviously he got put under.
Also mats gnarly

How gnarly is that !
Smuggling ligaments in his bike parts hahaha
Sounds like it works good but I wonder how strong it is if he had to have 4 more done

I was assuming the other 4 were different ligaments within his knees.

Just one of the reasons Mat is a legend. I think you're right GuyB, Travis is the only other person I know that would think that was a good idea.

He's a legend in the BMX community, but I can't imagine age is treating him very well. I've seen him KTFO'd on numerous occasions p.

Dude's radical!

Bullshit! Either this dude is incredibly tough or incredibly stupid, maybe both. Never trust a 'doctor' who insists on cash money (ahead of time) and does the 'operation' in a hotel room!!!

Watched an ACL reconstruction with a graft from the patellar tendon when I worked at the hospital. So much can go wrong in the first few weeks. Crazy stuff for sure.

He is a badass....him and Robbie have kept an Oklahoma orthopedic living large haha

I only had one 1 inch incision with my acl replacement and meniscus removal surgery last year. (and two pinky nail incisions on my knee cap for arthroscopic) I was knocked out though! haha I was driving and walking (not with crutches) 4 days post-op at my daughter horse show. Smile Don't know how those guys race in 4-6 weeks post op.

I watched it couple times, so funny ! I think his care free nature and voice coupled with the music and animation does it. Anyhow from what I could tell he first meets the doctor in the hotel room, pays him then most likely walk over to an available operating room in a nearby hospital. I live in or close to Montreal and everything downtown is within walking distance or metro. Took a cab back to his motel from the hospital after the operation for obvious reasons. If you look at the animation of the yellow hotel sign 'Hotel Super 8' it's pretty common here in Québec, nice touch haha.

As for ACL's I had one done in '88 from a mogul skiing incident ( 204 cm back in the day with bindings cranked to 13 didn't help ) Was operated on downtown at Royal Vic, probably the same hospital or another one close by in Mat Hoffman's case. I did blow the other one out in '94 and never had it repaired. I'm totally mobile without it and this was the then new protocol at the time. Some people get along fine without, others cannot even get across the room. I jog 20+ min daily and full squat 200+ lbs no probs but swear by my EVS Web braces for even just looking at a dirt bike.

If you listen, it is pretty clear he did not have surgery in a hotel room. There were assistants and nurses, etc...and after surgery he went back to his hotel. Still...crazy story about going through that awake with just a local. That is one tough dude.
