First time on a bike with my Dad making me nervous as hell. Moments before this pic was taken I looped it out and broke the tool pouch off the 81 DT175. We stripped off all the lights and signals. I was 13

First MX bike I ever owned. 94 yz125 at Hurricane Hills PA. I was probably 16

Started in '74, but earliest pics are '76 at 5 yrs old when I did the jr 50 brochure for Suzuki

Then, there's also this one from later the same year..

This bike was also used in the show CHiPs .. Some of you older guys might remember an episode of CHiPs where a kid of a girl John (Ponch & John) dates races pewees . I did most the riding in that episode for the kid. The race scene in the show was on this bike. My 15 minutes of fame. Cool

1978 RM100. Somewhere in New England. I didn't have any money except what I earned after school as a dishwasher. The boots (to small) and leather pants (too big) were hand me downs from a buddy. I had a $1. tank top with a lame picture of a dirt rider on it over a sweat jacket. Matching tape for numbers on the bike and helmet. Sparkly blue $15. helmet. I did have new Scott goggles and facemask. I couldn't be happier though.

Do you remember what track that was, the snow fence makes it look like it might be the famed Peperell MA track?
I'm pretty sure it is Peperell. The fence and rocks make me think so. The only tracks I remember racing at that year was Peperell, Middleboro, Southwick and Pine Top.

Sweet thread!

Obviously I'm a lot younger than most of you folks here but here is me on my first 85. Need to find a picture of my PW and KX60.

Haha, watch out wheelie boys, Rob is coming at ya.. Woohoo I rode one of those bike when I was about 12 and the last thing I thought about doing was a wheelie. I remember it steering like a car without power-steering.

Hey DanDunes818, I figure with over 40 years of syndicated reruns, your more famous than RC.

Some of these pictures are rad. I'm not nearly up in age as some of you old folks, but here's a few that has to be my first times on a bike. Ones Kyle our Dad and I near Nellis at a place called Hollywood. The other is Jason, Kyle, myself, and another local kid named Austin Parr at the same place. Maybe the same day. This was back in 94, right before Jason ended up breaking his back.

That's the first bike I had when I was ten: with the autoclutch. Good times! Rode the hell out it in the subdivision my folks built a house in before it got all built up. I had trails all over. Dad made me learn how to handle a five gallon gas can to fuel it cause I was putting so much fuel through it in a day and he was getting tired of always bringing me gas. One day I put a hundred miles on it (per its odometer) riding around the subdivision. When we went to visit mom's parents at their farm with alot of woods, we'd fold the handlebars down and put in the trunk of the folks Olds 98 just like it was designed to do!

We bored it out after a year and sold it after a couple of years and I moved up to a Hodaka Ace 100 and then to a Yamaha DT125 (with electric start). Never got my dad to get me a proper dirt bike with knobbies though. Did that on my own dime when I bought my '78 YZ250. Really didn't know what MX was until watching the 500 USGP on Wide World of Sports in the late seventies.

Rode around there a million times before they built everything there back in early 80s when I lived there. There used to be sooooo many places to ride back in the day around Vegas. Especially out by where the Red Rock casino is now.

I'm gonna have to dig up some embarrassing photos next time I go visit my parents. It's not of me, but my dad has this badass picture of him riding around the yard on his chrome 86 z50 with my sister up on the tank giving the thumbs up. She's was probably like 3 years old. I think it's his most valued possession.

86 or 87. I was either 4 or 5... Can't remember! I think this was the Boxing Day (the day after Christmas day) I'd just got the QR50 for Christmas, it was in te field behind our house. No idea why I'm sticking my tongue out though!

QR50 Woohoo

That is an awesome pic and so jealous you got to see one in your lifetime. I am a long time fan of the z50 (have to post my pic later) and have been seeking a QR since I was a kid.

Funny how life goes, once you can afford the big bikes - money can't buy the near extinct classics!

If the picture from Hurricane Hills was from a D6 race, I was most likely there. I'm guessing that picture is of you on the table top before the left hander that led to a triple I think (top section of the track). Pretty sure I remember a few sets of bleachers there. It's been a while, so I could be totally wrong too...lol

Such an awesome thread, you guys are killing it with these pictures. I wish I still had my old photos, but they were all at my mom's house, and I'm not sure what happened to them after she died.

This is awesome! I was hoping to come back a day later and see a thread like this. You people are posting some priceless pictures....at least priceless to each one of you. Classic! Think about the bikes and equipment that we were totally stoked with.....not knowing what the future of MX would bring and being completely happy with what we had. Tell me that some of these pictures don't spark some bitchin memories!!!

Back in 2000,2001. Seemed like Motocross was such a different vibe back in those days.
