Christ you guys bitch about every f*ckin thing, can't ever please anyone over here. Emig does awesome I think, much better having an ex-pro in the booth rather than some guy that knows zilch about dirt bikes or how to even ride one. Id like to see you in a booth and see if you can speak flawlessly all night without the slightest hiccup. I give a thumbs up to all 3 that have been in the booth this year.

Everybody tosses out a sinker now and again. I'm sure he will laugh about it afterward. I, like many of you, really like Emig in the booth and think he does an excellent job.

Pretty funny, no one said anything about how he talks. it was funny because he was so serious like he was going to have some point to his rambling and all he said was its about winning. What else would it be about losing? The folks with brains got it. Bama205 hell you took the time to post in my horrible thread, Ain't nothing low about my thread, haha

lol...how it jumped to 'Leave Britney Alone" I'll never know.

Apple polishing contest for sure.
Haha, they are still on it. Dang funny. Seriously, pretty sure Emig wouldn't want special treament for overcoming a speech issue.

I personally love it when Emig, RC, Langston or any of those guys are talking. No matter what, they
have an eye for what is going on that is different than someone who hasn't walked the walk.

While I think Ralph is a shouting tool who is forced to be the animated color commentator their dumbed-down comments actually are geared toward the newer race fan. I shit you not when a friend - who is new to watching SX - asked me how many points they get for each jump.

Those morons are who Ralph and the Emigisms are trying to reach.

I think Emig and RC are great. Yeah maybe not perfect but still to this day, id say either could get on most of our bikes and go much faster then we ever will! So STFU

This is going to get kind of personal, but it goes perfectly with what some of you are taking about. I am not trying to speak for Emig, nor would I ever, but it's just some insight.

I am a stutterer and I have gone through a program like Emig has. I don't know what he did or how he did it, but I know the time and dedication that it takes to speak fluently. I spent 14 straight days in Virginia with HRCI a few years ago and my speech was never the same. I am a high school math teacher so I get to practice my targets every day in the classroom, which is where I do most of my speaking. Guys like Emig have it harder when they can't practice in the booth in front of millions live. I can't imagine doing that. Another hard part about being a stutterer, more fluent or less, is that we have to think about what we are going to say and how we are going to say it.

While I can't speak for Emig, stuttering does not leave the body or go away once fluency is attained. Even if you, the listener, don't notice it, it's all we feel when we talk, especially if you are on target. He may not have done the HCRI program like I did, but whatever he does is similar to what I do when I speak.

I grew up not caring what people thought about my speech. I differ from most stutterers in this matter. People, non stutterers, are more afraid of public speaking than death or spiders. If you want to know what stuttering is, become a researcher and find out, please. We have theories but don't know.
Same here man, Since I was in the 3rd grade till around highschool. But you are right, it never leaves your body, only happens if i'm anxious these days. I grew up caring a great deal about it, but its been easier as I've aged, not something I would wish upon anyone. Good to hear you had some success with some training and to glad hear that you are a teacher as well! Thats something to be proud of! I do some public speaking at work and as I love to do it, I can't help but keep those anxious thoughts out of my head. What Emig has managed to accomplish with his career through his speaking is nothing short of remarkable. I usually keep my posts to myself when I see people ripping on Emig, its hard to not take it personally, but then I realize how clueless 99% of the population is when it comes to such issues.

No one caught when Justin Hill won his heat in SX Mode..."Whippin' it out over the finish line, that's what it's all about boys and girls" HaHa!

I love Emig though. I've met him a few times on and off the track and is always really approchable. Him, RC and K-Dub always seem to have funny inside jokes durring the brodcasts where they are trying to get eachother to loose it on live TV.

Fro does a great job, polished and professional. RC is like hanging with your home schooled buddy who won't let you forget who won more races back in the day but is funny while doing it and Ralph I have come to tolerate!

I like Emig.

About the stuttering, I had two customers that stuttered and they were both in the parts store(way back when) where one overheard the other one speaking. They got to arguing about one making fun of the other. Was getting pretty ugly until they realized they were both stutterers. Good times....Laughing

Thank you for relating. Mitch Payton was one of my role models growing up. I wrote my High School Exit Exam about Mitch and how he was successful in the sport when he had great opposition... or something like that

So tired of hearing about the speech issue. If Emig has a speech issue, then live broadcasting is not for him. If he has overcome his speech issue, then he is fair game for criticism. It's one or the other as far as I'm concerned.

I honestly had no idea that Emig had any sort of speech impediment, and yes, I chuckled when I read the OP. Figured this thread was going to be about funny things that Emig says, not going around and bashing people for making fun of his "stutter". I feel bad for him if he has trouble speaking. I do too, and it really sucks. However, the fact that I have a stutter does not affect the fact that I sometimes say stupid shit. People say stupid shit regardless of how well they speak. This thread is a perfect example.

I think Emig is a fantastic person to have in the booth every race. It makes the races more enjoyable for those that are already involved in the sport, whereas Ralph, as some have stated, is more for the newbies and the general population. Emig is hilarious sometimes, but I like that about him.

John Madden got laughed at all the time for saying ridiculous things during broadcasts. And people loved him for it. For example:

"The team that scores the most points is probably gonna win the game"

Or

"Here’s a guy who when he runs, he moves faster.”

Or, my personal favorite:

“If the quarterback throws the ball in the endzone and the wide receiver catches it, it’s a touchdown.”

Madden was 1000x worse than Emig, but people loved him for it.

For the last time (Hopefully)

The OP's thread had NOTHING TO DO WITH EMIG STUTTERING.

He nor any early replies ever said anything about how Emig spoke.

Emig as an announcer is a pro up there, we all know that.

However.

His pearls of wisdom such as "keys to the race - dont fall down" border on pure Yogi Berra type quotes.

EMIG: Supercross is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical.

BERRA: Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical.

what the hell is wrong with you? they guy has overcome a severe speech impediment and has openly talked about his insecurities with it.... he has to work his ass off daily to keep on top of it. more importantly, he is one of the better commentators that we have had regardless of his speech challenges.

are you the kind of person who also makes fun of people that are overweight? how about people who have birth defects? the one thing that overweight or people with birth defects have in common with emig is that they are aware of it and are self-consious of it... just like people who have speech challenges. don't think for a second that if jeff read this that he wouldn't be offended embarrassed to a certain degree even if it was something as simple as being a little redundant... again he grew up being very self-consious of his ability to speak.

my guess is if you actually met him in person you would piss all over yourself, get his autograph and then go rub one out.

maybe think before you make fun of someone for something they can't exactly help. jeff is a great commentator.
Yeah, I do make fun of people that are overweight. How did they get that way? Did they get there over night? Did they think that sitting around, not doing much would result in a toned physique? I do understand the argument about birth defects, but people that are over weight, should accept and understand the bit of heckling that comes from it. If they don't like it, that IS something that can be fixed and changed. Sorry to detract from the topic at hand, just thought this couldn't be passed over.

Hahaha, even more accurate would be RC, Ralphy, and Fro as Madden, Gruden, and Joe Buck, respectively

A lot of negative people on here assuming the worst apparently. I thought it was fairly obvious what you were meaning. I think they all do well at commentating (Ping will always be my favorite), but it’s pretty ridiculous to pretend some funny stuff isn’t said during the broadcast. I think I even heard Ralph say Tomac and Roczen grew up racing amateurs together…
