If a sport wants credibility, it needs to ensure that it's athlete's aren't cheating, that is simple.
WADA : World Anti Doping Agency - Promotes, coordinates, and monitors at the international level the fight against doping in sports in all its forms.
Im not saying Stewart was cheating, I was just pointing out to Hammertime that the meds can have quite noticable P-E-D effects if you take the right dosage, no matter if you are ADHD or not...
The Shop
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
If he does need to take it he still broke the rules by not doing a TUE until after he was tested positive ...isnt it THAT simple?
So lets stop assuming and move on until the real facts come out
The timing may have been a joke to some and quite possibly could've been better, but people need to realize WADA and FIM have more on their plate than James Stewart's failed doping test. Throw some lawyers in the mix and it's instantly a drawn out process.
or the riders who feel bad for Lance Armstrong nope, those guys are despised by their peers and I doubt many pros are upset with Stewarts punishment even though the fans may think its excessive.
I like JS7, but cheaters got what they deserve.
- Pressure WADA and FIM to quickly come to resolution (this did not happen in this case)
- After penalty has been placed on rider, rider with assistance of union gets to quickly dispute penalty (example from 1 year to 6 rounds)
- After dispute, penalty placed on rider
Additional note: riders have say "collectively" on penalties and rules. And yes, I feel they should be part of the process.
* You have absolutely no idea what the riders think - let's not assume.
Unlike your government analogy, this isn't a democracy.
Pit Row
and on # 3, why should the fact he is a contender next year make a difference to the penalty, does someone that might not win deserve a different punishment?
Oh wait, no he's not, he has ADD and now the most talented rider to this day will not be on the track in one of his final seasons and this whole thing just turned out to be a huge failure.
Pissed.
I guess my whole point is that decisions are being made are those that, and I'm guessing here, is unwanted by 95% of all the people who actually pay for this shit to happen. I don't like decisions being made with no say so by those who foot the bill. That was where I was trying to draw a corolation between our government and WADA/USADA/FIM/AMA.
And for those that say "well now this will get us into the limelight because we are viewd as a legitimate sport because of the testing". Bullshit
Name the last time you watched a sporting event and thought to yourself " I hope these men and woman are tested properly to ensure that no one is cheating"? Never. Never fucking ever.
If tomorrow NASCAR made an announcement that they are no longer drug testing do you think that ratings would go down by even .1%? Highly doubtful....
shit, if I heard tomorrow they were going to stop checking for steroids in the MLB I would buy an opening day ticket and sit in the outfield with my mit! Would make it a hell of a lot more exciting! Ha
a couple of years ago on here people were calling the sport a laughing stock for not having testing, riders like Reed and RV were calling for more testing, Jeff and Tony Alessi were saying that top riders were on PED's, I think the majority wanted testing,
some people on here at the time said that me may not want what we wished for, and it seems that they were right,
While I've never specifically had that thought while watching an event, my assumption is that everyone is clean, and I silently cheer whenever an athlete is found guilty of using performance enhancing drugs.
And if they wiped out the top 20 riders from A1 for using PED's, I wouldn't shed a single tear.
You see the thing is, the real argument is not about whether athletes should have the right to use PED's, it's that every athlete should have the right to compete equally WITHOUT using PED's. The vast majority of people arguing against drug testing in sport fail to see that.
Think about this - your child has the talent to be among the best in the world, and then at some point you (and him/her) realise that the only way to get to the next level is to start using PED's of some sort.
Is that the kind of sporting environment we really want?
I bet Suzuki will even say they're in favour of it in the end, they're just in the position where their star rider didn't read the rules of the sport he was involved in.
