I searched around to see if anyone had heard if Yamaha is going to be standing behind the motor cost's when your water pump lets go? Damn, bike let go at about 20hours, and 5 hours later it did it again. This time it spit parts all over and took out the cylinder too. Dang expensive repair. Overheats the hell out of the engine, and I have no idea how long the rest of the motor can take it. So again, has anyone one heard if Yamaha is going to man up and pay the bill?
I now see they have a new updated part for it.
Yamaha is the only company that does have a 30 day warranty.
I'm a Yamaha guy but they screwed me out of $800 contingency this year so my next bike will probably be something else.
Please let us know how you make out.

I was surprised as several years ago they stepped-up on a valve issue and repaired my bike under recall. No such luck this time.

I bought a gyt-r piston from yamaha dealer, installed it and blew up my motor in 8 hours. Took it to the dealer who said the circlips were in wrong (they weren't but we couldn't be sure). Bought another gyt-r piston and had the dealer install it. Blew up in 8 hours again (hour meter, almost to the exact hour). Took it back to the dealer and they rebuilt it again for free (another gyt-r piston, because yamaha said that wasn't the problem). Blew up in 7 hours. Dealer talked to yamaha, they refunded all of my rebuild money and sent me a brand new in crate motor. Gyt-r pistons were discontinued for about a year after that.
This was the first motor I had ever blown, and the dealer is aware of how well I maintain things.
I'm kind of bummed for my friends here, they seem to have gotten quite a run around on this deal. I have been on Yamaha's since October of 2000. I have been amazed at how long they run with out any issues. But this water pump problem is very weird. And I believe the first explosion of this motor was before there was a 2015 part, or this Chrome shaft part, were available. The dealer they got the bike from gave them an updated part to use, but it failed too. They had already put in the replacement shift parts.
So now she's on her 2nd rebuild, and then they will sell it, or trade it for a new 2015.
It is amazing that you were able to get such a great response to a problem, yet I'm seeing so many talk about Yamaha just leaving everyone in the road.

Other than that, it seems like the Yamahas are very solid bikes as long as you avoid these occasional engineering oversights that can take your whole motor down.
Pressure test your radiator with cap installed to see if it will even hold rated pressure. I had problems with both the oem radiator and aftermarket aluminum ones. What I found was that the water neck was too deep, and wouldn't compress the spring on the cap at all. They would only hold about 5psi before blowing out the overflow. This happened with both radiators, and 4 different caps. I ended up carefully filing down the top of the neck on the aftermarket aluminum radiator so that the spring would actually compress when the cap was tightened down. I eventually got it to hold rated pressure. Problem solved, for me at least.
