spoke skins

who runs them on their bike? i just got a very low hour 09 yz450 and i'm thinking of getting a set mostly to keep the spokes like new. do they keep the spokes clean or do they let dirt in? if i do get a set ill probably get black or white. I like blue on the yami's but my bike came with the retro graphics that are still in almost perfect shape so im going to run them for a while. i cant stand blue and red together on yamahas. post up pictures of your bikes if you got them!!

Ive owned quite a few bikes and have never had a problem keeping the spokes in "like new" condition. Unnecessary in my opinion

i get what youre saying. the newest bike ive had before this was an 03 RM250 that was rode hard and put away wet by the guy i bought it from, so im not used to seeing fresh spokes. I guess thats just my excuse to spend $30 on plastic straws that look cool.

They trap dirt in. But I bought a bike with them on, so who knows how they took care of them.

Spoke skins are gaaaaaayyyyyyyyy, purely cosmetic & make your wheels look heavy.

Take a sample next time your at the track- only the noobs and the mulisha graphics guys will be running them.

I bought some and put them on my 50. They trap dirt in and basically keep ur spokes dirty. Unless your really into the look id steer clear of em. Mine lasted 2 weeks and ended up in the trash.

Spokeskins are the fastest way to discolor the spokes. Moist, water and soils gets in there and sits. To clean your spokes properly means removing the skins each time you wash your bike. On top of that they look shit. My opinion......

I heard they add torque to your rolling wheel mass, that helps you pull through mud and deep sand easier. Also helps you scrub better with a heavier gyro effect on wheels up the face of a jump ? Z'is true ?

The motocross world cracks me up sometimes. "Rebel against the mainstream" but only as long as you rebel just like everyone else does, haha. And no, I don't have spoke skins.

Honestly, Thats an awesome wheel set, But those spoke skins make them look like shit, they just look cheap, and that's the last thing that wheelset actually is

^^ This x10. I don't have them either, but my little brother does. I don't particularly care for the look myself, so I've never run them, but I don't think they look too bad.

Mind you, he is only a decent "C Class" kid, so maybe he is one of these "noobs" that Kiwi-bro looks down on.

He is right about one thing though, they are purely cosmetic. So if you're not into the look then don't bother. If you are into the look, then go for it. Don't let all these cool guys turn you off of them, because you know they will be first inline to pickup a set of yellow tires after seeing all the fast guys run them at Monster Cup.

If you don't know what the difference is between sprung and unsprung weight you'd probably think spoke skins are a good idea.

Best way to clean wheels and spokes is. A brush from a kitchen dust pan set (brush and shovel) for the spokes and a toilet brush for the hubs. A new one works best Sick

Nothing like hitting wet, water logged hands on sprockets and brake rotors for taking skin off.

Especially for you Smez. Read the owners guide for your hubs and it says no degreaser to be used on them Wink .

just in the process of stripping down some old stock wheel's and having them pc'd in matte black.even gonna re-use the old spoke's and nipples without any bell's or whistle's.hope that's dull and cheap enough for you guy's Laughing Tongue Wink
