Anybody ordered a KTM Freeride E yet??

I've seen them around at the GP paddock and watched some charity races with these bikes and it sure looks like a cool play bike for the woods and trails and now they are available at the KTM dealerships in Europe. Not sure about the US tho.

Here in Holland riding area's are rare and if you take a bike out in the woods it's mostly illegal. With a "silent"play bike like the Freeride I would have a lot of un-noticed fun. Wink
But man, €11.295 is a lot of money.
I totally understand why it's an expensive bike with all the development and low amount of production on this bike but I doubt it will sell fast with that price tag. Sad

I would loooove to buy one, just for the reasons you mentioned: a lot of un-noticed fun in the woods around here, and a lot of noice free fun in the backyard. But that price tag is pretty high Woohoo

Of course the price tag is high; new technology + low production volume = higher price tag. Typical of any new gadget.

No surprise that KTM would get the ball rolling in Europe first for these bikes. As momentum builds, I expect we'll start seeing them more and more here in the USA at KTM test ride events, etc.

I got a zero FX one. I use it for riding to work or like you said through the woods (you could never do that with my 2 stroke without problems) vor something like that.
They have a pretty good ncm battery which is better than the KTM one imo.

Saw several E bikes including the Alta at AIM expo and they have come a long way but........ are you freaking kidding on the prices. 15k

On that note also saw a Chinese 450 (ssr motorsports) there and it looks like it has come a long way as well......Price $4500

Really wanted to go to AIM. Pretty interesting that SSR is getting into the big bike market now. I can see justifying the cost of their pit bikes vs the cost of building your own out of a Honda, etc.. but I just can't imagine why anyone with $4,500 to spend on a 450 would choose a bike manufactured to a low price point vs a bike manufactured to a quality point. I mean $4,500 can buy you a damn nice used bike only a few years old from one of the main OEMs..

The general demographic for the Chinese brands seems to be a "ride hard, put away wet" kind of crowd. Will be interesting to see what and how much market share companies like SSR can continue to carve out..

Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who feel the same about a Japanese bike that we do about the Chinese bikes. They can't tell the difference, don't know the difference and feel like a $9000 Honda is a total rip off so they buy the blue Chinese bike that looks exactly the same for half price.

Very, very few. The Japanese and Chinese have a horrible relationship, and Japan is a mercantile, non-capitalist economy. They don't outsource SHIT, especially to China or Korea.

We sold a few china atv's that were super close to being yamahas. Didn't look bad on the inside either.

A few of us from my work were riding some all morning, was pretty fun! Actually seriously good fun, even in the mud and rain. So easy to ride. We went through a lot of batteries but they always had some more to plug right in.

From the looks of the video, they still seem toyish, on a toy track too! more like a simple playbike. Not to replace modern MX bikes real soon!

They freeride looks cool but they are kind of small. I saw this at Intermot. It looked closer than anything I have seen to a replacement for a modern moto bike.

I worked with Quantya USA for a few years, Quantya is a Swiss made bike, and I know how fun these are. People hate and say never, never, never, but they don't have any idea what they are talking about. Speed is speed and acceleration is acceleration so they are just like riding a regular dirt bike, only different. Much lighter feeling than a dirt bike, kind of half way between an MX bike and a DH mountain bike.

The thing I find interesting is that the Quantya always had a little bit of a clunk when landing hard off a jump and I could never really figure out exactly what it was. I notice in the video that the KTM does it also.

umm not quite right

the chinese were able to copy the Yamaha and Honda minibike engines
because
the Japanese outsourced the manufacturing to chinese companies and then
they back doored them and released them themselves, went to court and lost.
(there're much more careful these days because of that and outsource individual parts to different chinese companies)

they mostly set up factories in other countries and control the whole process, but still out source some individual components
depending on "in country parts count" for tax reasons.
