They won't.

They didn't when four strokes came in.

They're still in the market of selling dirt bikes.

They'll either see a market opportunity and reopen their production lines.

Or they'll keep going at their current operating model and costs and see what happens.

I guarantee the costs of Honda to reopen those lines dwindles compared to their profit margins overall in the long run.

Like I said, all the manufacturers, they're in the market of selling dirt bikes, and part of that is market demand. Slowly but surely they're pricing that demand down.

Was just looking at this years results, the major world and AMA titles, Enduro(E1-2-3), GPs(MX1 & MX2) and AMA 450 SX/MX.

KTM won 5 out 8 of these titles... E1 & E3, GPs both classes and 450MX... And in 3 of those they won, also had the 2nd place rider...

The 3 classes they didn't win, KTM riders placed 2nd and 3rd (450SX), 6th & 8th (E2) & Musquinn finished 4th in 250MX

I kinda feel like their market position, strategies etc are working a bit better than the rest and this is reflected in their outgoings towards their race programs...

If Mike is speaking the truth... why in the hell would anyone who doesn't race at a pro level buy a 250f? Maybe cause they want to ride what the pros ride even if it isn't a better bike!

Now... Why as a weekend rider/racer would anyone buy a new 2stroke? It has no future in pro level racing (awesome rules). FI/DI is to advanced (it would complicate something so simple) didn't seem to have a negative effect on 4strokes though. No bike available/sold to compete with a 450.
Unfortunately all we can do is imagine how good a new 450 2stroke could be.

I can imagine it! I can see average person go in to buy a new bike...pay similar money for something that has more power, is lighter and lower maintenance.... I can see it killing 450 4stroke sales because you can’t blame people!

Only on Vital do you get new 2 stroke threads bitching about 2 stroke threads. Not sure that the 2 stroke guys are the problem here. 4 pages and still going. Classic. Me, I went riding yesterday great weather in central Pa. (2012 KTM SX) don't care what you ride cause I suspect most of you doing the bitching don't. Including the guy that started this post.

Im my opinion this would take a lot of the guesswork out of what Motodrivers want and like, and would allow people to giveth or taketh away karma for submitted threads and/or replies to threads. Similar to Reddit, Stack Exchange and other sites.

I don't play favorites, I have both in my garage!
5, 2 strokers and 2, 4 strokers.

The kicker is the 4 strokers are for the STREET.. ( where they belong!)

2-strokes are like computers lets say DOS system they're (2ST) old out of date and the modern world don't give two fucks about it (them) and become redundant when new technology (4ST) came in.
But as the world gets more technoligically advanced (4ST) with modern computer systems people now are wishing that they could go back to the simple days of DOS (2ST) we know it works and is simple to use.
SO having said this it comes quiet apparent that the 2ST (DOS) advocate on here are really just simple folk who are only 2STupid to work on and accept technology for what its worth.

I forgot to mention that I bought a new 2 stroke just this year and love it. I was going to buy a vintage bike and do it up but then I thought fuck I can go to yamaha or KTM and buy a brand new vintage bike and not waste any money on resto.
Why does the 2 stoike vs 4 stroke arguements on here seem only to apply to the 250cc range. Why are no one getting these alloy framed 500's and comparing them to the 450. I'd like to see HP figures as having ridden both id never ever consider the 500.

Cost might have something to do with the Chinese and Indian invasion. Is a 450 slower and heavier than a 500 2ST. Is it raw old technology (DOS) that's made these current crop of 2 strokes HP figures more impressive or is the new up to date electronics?
