I broke my skeleton once...a few times.

I find a lot of bone injuries occur in my skeletal area.

I broke my pinky finger last year. The next week I cracked the bone on the outside of that same hand, and may have fractured my wrist also. I've been very lucky for the most part. My worst injury is a couple concussions, which are more severe than almost any break due to the long-term effects they can have.

I feel fairly lucky after reading some of the injuries here and knowing what people have done that i race with. I have been riding bikes since '85 and racing since '88 and in that time have only broken a collarbone, minor knee damage both knees and the worst one in july 07 i crushed a vertibra and slighty damaged the one either side of the crushed one.

Hey SuperFan. I have have friend the broke her Tibial Plateau. She actually broke it as a compound fracture. How long did it take you to be able to put weight on it? She isn't allowed to put weight on it for 2 months. They are saying she might be off crutches in 3 months. I don't buy that. How long did it take you to get back to normal walking?

I've actually been pretty fortunate considering all the crashes.

Broken back, broken collar bone, torn rotator cuff, broken scapula, pulled lat muscle, a few broken fingers, broken ribs, cracked sternum broken foot 2 places, 4 or 5 concussions ...................................and a partidge in a pear tree.

I shattered me left elbow into about 15 pieces…. That was the ugliest. The doc mentioned amputation…. I about crapped myself. It took 2 pins, 2 screws, and 1 wire to make it the ugliest looking elbow ever. I still have the pins and wire hanging in there.

I broke my right wrist (navicular) next, it took 1 year to heal and the doc started to talk about fusing it, I don’t know why I get all the complicated ones. But I refused and the dying chunk of bone he screwed back on finally re-grew and I’m ship shape now.

I broke a few ribs too when I crashed and shattered my elbow…. Those actually hurt the worst, couldn’t breath, had to roll out bed… it was miserable.

Torn PCL in my right knee, broken tib/fib in left leg, 5th metacarpal in my left hand, separated shoulders (somehow I saved it when my front tire jumped over a berm. That night I woke up with the worst pain as my entire arm and shoulder hurt. I walked into the bathroom and looked into the mirror and you could see how much lower that arm was hanging)...

More than my share of concussions, I can tell you that...

Wrist, ribs, concussions (4+).

Broken back and left femur July 13th '08. Also wondering how long it might be until I can ride again. I'm hoping January '09 at the most.

about six months for me but i was a kid at the time. now it would probably kill me.

i was riding my streetbike and a little old lady decided that stop signs didn't apply to her. i spent six weeks in the hospital, followed by 12 weeks in a body cast. now my leg is 1-1/4" shorter than the other.

I broke my femoral head (the ball at the top that fits in your hip socket) in 2003, when I was 36. Had two pelvis fractures, broken rib, and shoulder fracture at the same time. Three permanent pins.

Three months on crutches. Six months until I was taking putter laps on the kiddie track, and a year until I raced again.

My buddy broke his back and when he came back he rode a 150 a lot. The key is to take it easy of course.

Ouch damn! I messed up and checked out your profile. I really don't know if she had an exterior fixture or not. My guess would be yes. It was serious enough that she almost lost her leg. They kinda just put everything back together. She was in the hospital for 8 days. Its been about a month now and she is starting theropy. Shes a tough girl. She and her 10 yr old nephew were riding XR 100's and she got tangled up and wrecked. He started her bike for her and she rode it back to the house over a mile away with a compound fracture.

Broken bones suck. My condolences go out to all you guys for all the pain dispensed. I've been injured so many times in MX (and Kenpo) that I hope old age is kind to me. For all the bad crashes and injuries, I've only broken my collar bone 3 times, hands 2 times, wrist 1 time, ankle 1 time, foot 2 times. I feel lucky.
