Suzuki 250s at Millville - NOT

Six RMZ 250's out of 80 racers in the 250 class today, and no one on the yellow bike made the show, the first RMZ qualified at spot 39, Alex Nagy.

I would go as far to say that next year there will be more Husqvarna 250's racing in AMA pro than Suzuki.

That is shameful for a once proud racing company.

I don't understand Suzukis strategy. Did they sink every penny into James? I haven't ridden an RMZ 250 but Im told it's a very good bike.

Their management seems really backwards to me.

I remember the late 70,s the starting gates were a sea of yellow ( Yamaha's were white back then)

I'm a Suzuki fan and extremely disgusted that they extended James. They are nothing more than a embarrassment at this point. Sad thing is they make tons of money and should be putting a much bigger effort into it

Not sure how much they're paying Bubbs, but I cant believe they don't have enough left over to put a 250 rider on Yosh Suzuki so that at least they would have a presence in the 250 class. Pretty comical, really

I always comment on this because it is a damn shame Suzuki doesn't have a 250 team. The bikes are awesome and I can only imagine what a factory one would feel like. They are advertising the 450 quite a bit, but I haven't seen anything about their 250 yet.
It would be nice to see if RCH or Yosh get a 250 effort going soon.

I've heard the bike is pretty good too, it's crazy they wouldn't even put something together for an independent team with factory support.

Why would some of you think it has anything to do with james? Yosh isnt the only factory suzuki team... RCH is one too.

I can see rch running a 250 effort as well at some stage it would be better for the sport if they did.

I remember back in the early 2000's the AMA D5 was just littered with suzukis. And suzuki used to have an awesome contingency program in the GNCC's. It's such a shame it's dwindled down to nothing.

Never ridden one, but Suzuki haven't made a major update to the 250f in about 3 years... I've heard they handle well but I think stock their down on power, which is not what you want as a privateer.....

Great bikes tho.

But y'all should lay off of Suzuki's strategy a bit. They've won title after title the last decade. From RC to Pastrana to Reed to Bubba..... The biggest names in the sport have all taken turns riding yellow. It hasn't helped their American sales at all. So what good is dumping a bunch of money into satellite race efforts going to do?

Their bikes get minor (but important) updates each year that add up to a great package. They handle incredibly. And they are easy to get good deals on. And pros love them for good reason. If that ain't enough to convince joe public to buy bikes, I dunno if a 250 team will do much more.

Their contingency is actually the best around right now. They just don't pay any pro races.

Bike sales are in the shitter, exactly how are they supposed to field a 250 team? Damn shame I know, and hard to sell bikes without winning on Sunday.. one Heck of a catch 22....

Kind of sad our sport has gone down the road of entitlement. If racers aren't getting free stuff, they aren't riding that bike. If Suzuki offered up free cell phones and x boxes, the gates would be full again....lmaoWink

We'll then, how about one Yosh RMZ 250 with a up and comer out of Loretta's kid in the factory semi?

I count at least six Yosh /Suzuki employees running around for James, couldn't they spare a guy for a 250 rider?

Or is that Rig for James only would he allow another rider to share it ?

Suzuki does things their own way I guess....

yamahas were yellow in the late 70's..... and there were more of them on the starting gate than anything else from what I remember. at least in socal there were. there were a lot of rm's at that time too tho, way more than now for sure.

I did notice that and thought maybe that was the case.... but I don't think ive ever seen a late 70's white yz? well, cept for pierre karsmaker's bikes.

Suzuki doesn't have much of a presence in amateur MX, either. Most of the top riders have been gobbled up by Star/Geico/TLD/Team Green.

RMZ250's are ok bikes but I would not call them great by any stretch of the imagination...however if a team was to use them then I am sure they would be very competitive. For some reason no one wants to....PERHAPS they are not great when they are modified i.e. become very unreliable??

Suzuki is the largest motorcycle [producer in Japan, they must be very poorly managed if they can't support race teams. KTM's production has DOUBLED since 2008!

It's not really like that at all. All the bikes are so equal that it boils down to money. If Suzuki is giving me $200 for a win and Yamaha is at $100. Guess which one I'm buying.

It's also a shame you have to drop $8,500 on a bike. Hard to justify when you have kids, a mortgage and a car payment. The sport has priced itself out of a lot of business. Pretty hard for a 17-22 year old to come up with that kind of cash as well. That doesn't even consider entrance fee's, maintenance, gear, gas etc...It's an expensive sport. The change to 4 strokes has not helped the situation. They may be better bikes (in some ways), but the additional have not helped fill starting gates. $550.00 boots, $500 helmets etc...You keep vets in the sport, but hard to bring in younger guys unless they have rich parents. All of the progress in bikes and equipment is great, it just limits the amount of people who can afford to ride and race.
