Surely his works KTM GP stuff is well outside the rules for 250 class in the states right?
LOL.

When have these rules been enforced? Nobody has ever been busted because their parts are not checked

I'm looking forward to this more than any other 250 or 450 AMA race this year.

So no matter what side of the pond you sit on, you have to be in awe of this kids riding but I'm kinda wondering are the other MX2 riders over there not even close to our top riders? Could this kid actually whip everyone's ass here on our (non sand) tracks? ... he is a bad ass on a bike for sure! Are American tracks that much different then normal non sand Euro tracks?

This will show us a lot. If Jeff comes and doesn't win it may expose how weak the half bike class is in the GP's. If he shows up and waxes all of our guys with almost no track time that may say even more. I'm hoping someone can give him a race but I'm expecting an absolute destruction of our guys. The class has lost a few of its better guys with Tomac and Kenny moved up, and I think they are ripe for a beatdown. I also expect to hear "Well, I don't need to worry about racing a guy who isn't in the championship" from more than a few guys in the aftermath. I don't see anyone going for broke to beat him (CW may be the exception) and the only guys that have a chance have the most reason not to. Bigger question is what if he posts better times than the 450's? That would be something special to pull that off on both sides of the pond. All that said Im happy he has the balls to travel (more should do it on both sides) and I hope he somehow gets beat. Cool
i think it would be a more accurate comparison to see how tonus does next year over the course of the full season in the ama championship- tonus was regular top 5, 2nd best to herlings most of the time before the injury this year.

How do you think the american fans will react to herlings? do you think they will welcome him with open arms, and be glad of another top rider making the race better for the spectators? or do you think he will get booed? be interesting to see what sort of reception he gets!

I don't think it matters that much if the track is on north american soil or somewhere else, if you are a top rider. I'm sure that for example, Villopoto would do great on any track in GP schedule. Racing full Supercross and AMA outdoors series in a row is a different thing entirely to get used to.

Well, flying that late in the week could be a flight problem also, you just can't fly direct from Schipol to Syracuse. New York

If there are weather or customs delays in NYC he could miss the race. Waiting on T storms or TSA could screw him unless he gives himself a buffer day.

I don't think most fans will know who the guy is honestly. I'd be stunned if he got booed. I expect a lot of fans asking each other "Who they hell is that blur with the #884 on his back?" The ones that know will be super pumped to get to see him in person and the ones who dont know him will probably be in shock. But he is young, cocky and brash. I'm sure he will fit right in here during his short stay in the US. Wink

This is awesome.

Can't say I've ever been a fan of Herlings (mainly because I was rooting for Searle and he kicked his ass most days), but I think it takes balls to go for something like this. There aren't many champs in recent years who have grabbed the bull by the horns like this. I would have loved to see Caroili do this years ago. Just like I'd have loved to have seen RC, Stewart, Dunge & RV jump the pond to make a statement in the GPs.

Very interested to see how he gets on.

No problem flying AMS - JFK and ground transportation from there. Thought of doing it myself just for this race but have to be back at work on monday and can't risk it when flying standby. And honestly I don't think he cares that much if he misses it due to weather/TSA. If he really wanted to race in the states he would already be there.

Unfortunately I believe you may be correct that most fans won't know who he is. The die hard's surely will, but most probably won't.

I was at the race in Tennessee when I received a tweet the Herlings had announced his participation at Unadilla. I was stoked because I already had tickets for that race too. I mentioned it to a few fans I was sitting around that I had been talking to and none of them knew who he was. I was surprised actually. These were more than just casual fans too. Some were or had been amateur racers too.

I hope the fans that do know who he is appreciate the opportunity we have to see him race. Like him or not, he is one of the very top riders in the world currently. I'll be pulling for our boys for sure, but I feel privileged to see him race, especially his first event here. Should be very entertaining.

He put photos on a web site and got upset because someone copied them?

That's like putting five bucks in the street and getting upset that someone picked it up.

Prob more to do with the copyright watermark being cropped out. Tho ask any professional photographer and they wouldn't be pleased if their photo was being used without permission

Im thinking Herlings will handle our boys and take home the overall. Not calling a 1-1, but I wouldnt be suprised. Im a fan of his NFG attitude.

IF (huge if) but if, he wins after just 30 minutes of track time on unadilla before the first Moto I will be very impressed. That track is incredibly hard to learn in two practices, if he does learn it, and does win, then the kid deserves every inch of hype he's ever gotten.

Wonder if they will make him ride B practice? I know Rodriguez did when he came back at muddy creek. Herlings may be a little above rodriguez though Grinning

My guess is he knows exactly what he's doing. Him and bis Team probably wouldnt do this if there were questionmarks about everything and he could end up not getting along with the bike or the schedule and Land outside the top 5.
They will make sure that he's almost as good as if it was a GP. And theyre good at what theyre doing. If they manage that and hes familiar with everything, i think it will depend on baggett. If he has a good day he can fight with herlings, i dont see other riders being able to come close to be honest.
I dont know we're in the midst of a summer polar vortex. Cooler temps up north here......

Martin did some damage at the uncharacteristically cool Red Bud......If the temp is right, I bet Martin can pull off another win and beat herlings straight up.

Don't they get 2- 30 minute practice sessions?

Herlings is in a great position here as he already has several built-in excuses (short trip, new track, different format, borrowed bike, different food, etc). He has very little to lose, no points to worry about, and can just go out there and let it rip. I say he goes 4-3 for 3rd overall behind Baggett and Pourcel.
