The amount of vitriol and schadenfreude displayed by some of the posters here toward people actually involved on the industry is ridiculous.
Not being a smart ass here

scha·den·freu·de noun, often capitalized \ˈshä-dən-ˌfrȯi-də\

: a feeling of enjoyment that comes from seeing or hearing about the troubles of other people

I learned something on Vital today.

This is very accurate.

A true journalist makes every effort to avoid becoming the news they're reporting on. The moment they become involved in the story they lose their ability to appear neutral and report without any apparent bias.

Of course, there are no real journalists covering this sport anyhow. There's some very good writers and excellent photographers, but nobody who treats the sport as being actually "newsworthy". Actually going after stories that the industry hasn't already greenlighted for them without fear of repercussion.
I don't think steve is anything of what you mentioned.

He does his thing and people seem to be interested in what he has to say. If he wants to make it a Matthes only show then he can, because it's his thing and nobody else's. If i listen to his show then I don't want a perfect un-biased report about what happend last weekend. I want to hear what he and his guests have seen and experienced. These guys have something to say and stories to tell. And i enjoy every minute of those moto stories.

I think the internet in general (Twitter especially) has been getting worse, but industry people used to be respected on moto boards in the past. Not so much any more.

People seem jealous that there are industry people who, over the course of many, many years, have proven the worth of their opinions. And these people think that because they can post their opinion on a motocross message board, that somehow their opinions should matter, too. But with what they post, ironically, all they end up doing is proving why there are people whose opinions matter in the industry, and they aren't one. It has nothing to do with the ability to type a sentence and post it on the Internet.

What the twitter posts didn't capture is Steve's request prior to the event for an interview and write up for racerxll.

The interview approval should have been worked out prior to the event and mutually agreed on before Steve's visit to the pits. I thought Steve was at the pits to ask mike how he feels how is the bike working how's the track etc so I thought a contract was alittle too much for such an interview.

The real story he was trying to get needs agreement verbally or written because there is a real story behind why they are in Canada. Seems fishy the interview was for racerxll yet Steve said he spent his own money to travel so it may not a business trip.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong but that how I see it at this point.
I think you're grasping at fucking straws pal.

It's about that nut job Alessi and his kindergarten contract.

F the insiders................this and any other sport is nothin, has nothing, means nothing without RABID fans................biggest problem with moto all across the board is anyone even remotely involved thinks they are someone "special"............yeah have people quit going to races, buying your shit, and convincing all their friends to do the same.................what happens then?????

you can bag on mathis all you want but the last ten years, time and time and time again, TA, and unfortunately Mike, and for sure Jeff, have added to bringing out the absolute most and worst example of a completely dysfunctional moto family ever in the history of the sport...........Mike should have stopped it all at killswitchgate.............but he was just a kid then being directed by his dad.....ashame

now it totally is the gift that just keeps on giving...................

Anyone giving Matthes grief over this is as bat shit crazy as Tony... TA deserves this and then some. Most anyone who has run into him at the races has a story, myself included.

That said, anyone who thinks "VanHagar" is better then, the one and only Van Halen, is a pinko commie homo! Woohoo

It amazes me that Mike Genova continues to hitch his wagon to Tony Alessi. In my opinion he does nothing but bring bad press to the team and their rider (Mike). Since Matthes writes for the biggest mag. in the sport and has his own renowned weekly pod cast and web site you would think you would try to be on his good side. Every time there is one of these "Tony Alessi Moments" it does nothing but tarnish Moto Concepts image even more. If I were Genova I would get rid of Tony and keep him away from the M.C. pits. Then hire the best P.R. guy you can find to try and repair your teams image asap. Tony has clearly effected Mikes marketability and is doing the same to Moto Concepts. Wonder why your team is looked down on and cant seem to get factory support?? This sport is a daily battle of good results and getting the best press possible. Tony seems to be oblivious to the latter...

MotoConcepts has been calling their bikes MC450's for much longer than Tony had a say in anything, hence no factory willing to throw their hat in the ring. my guess is that Tony isn't the only one responsible for any bad rep that team has.
Pretty sure in 2011 they were Motoconcepts Yamaha and when Mike went to them in 2012 that's when they went to "MCR". But man what could have been with Mike had they not had to have Jeff on a team with them and Mike went to Factory Connection and they made him actually focus on supercross and motocross and not just try and get through supercross.

Again, spare us the BS. Its so transparent.

U didn't need anyone to review that chicken scratch "contract". U had no intentions of ever signing it. And u certainly didn't need a lawyer to understand the terms of that " contract". The only thing that could have made that "contract" any funnier is if it would have been written in crayon.

U were looking for drama, plain & simple. Otherwise u take the high road, give the contract back, and go have a laugh about it without all the extra stupid shit.

Despite the pot shots, a lot of people in the industry have taken the high road with u matthes. U may not care. Or u likely are too caught up in yourself to realize it. But stones/glass houses and some cliches like that would serve you well.
Jabroni, I'm not involved in the industry so forgive my ignorance here, but who are you? You seem to come across as someone who's somebody important in the industry or "in the know" but I have no idea who you are. It could help give some validity to your posts if people know who you are when you go on personal attacks on someone when they are based on personal experiences, as you claim. If you don't want to, that's fine, I can respect the anonymity, but I would suggest not going on a personal attack against someone if you're not gonna be forthright with who you are. If I'm the idiot for not knowing who you are, fair enough, I'll wear that badge.

'Mathis'. Guy's been around the sport forever and people still can't spell his name correctly.

That's actually the most amazing thing about this thread to me.

I agree, a few individuals in this thread suspiciously seem to care a little too much about any negativity directed towards the MCR team. It would not surprise me if the pro Tony replies aren't coming from people tied to the team in some capacity.....

As for Tony Alessi he needs to take the officers words of advice to Maverick to heart in Top Gun
Officer: You need to be doing it better and cleaner than the other guy. Now what is it with you?
This guy is the manager of a professional MX/SX team, the reputation that this guy has established for himself is nothing short of embarrassing. If this last incident were a one off deal then fine, I could see some leniency given, but this guy has developed into a common denominator. Any judge would rule firmer when dealing with a common denominator character.

I still wish Mike the best on the track and hope he can gain some positive confidence that will help him when he comes back south. I think when we saw him cry on TV after winning that heat race last winter that it was a release for him. All the drama and crap that goes on like this last incident has to weigh on him.....

Would you take the note and run off, then tweet about it and post a picture of it? After being told the note stays here?
No, that's not my style, and Twitter doesn't play as big a role in my life.

I'd have looked at it, laughed, and probably not come back to their pits for about six months.

I think Tony got mad when he did not get the "contract" back from Steve. The MCR team had a bad day (mud and rain) , Tony saw Steve coming over to their pit, and scribbled the contract in the heat of emotion. After giving Steve the contract, and it being rejected, and Steve walking off with it, he realized he had given Steve something that really made him look bad. I'm sure Tony going off on Steve pretty much sealed the posting on twitter, rather that Steve going to blows, or escalating the conversation. JMO.

Thanks Steve M, keep up the good work, I enjoy your perspective and reporting.

And thanks Guy B, nice to see you posting on this and the JS7 stuff, along with JT$.
