I was under the impression that Suzuki give very little in the way of support/contingency money.

Thats why magazine shootouts need to be taken with a dose of salt, it is their opinion only. Hondas build them for the masses and thats why they are popular, just because they dont win shootouts or come last in shootouts does not mean they are bad in any stretch of the imagination.

It seems like last year riders didn't really care about the support/contingency. They'd pick the bike anyways because they felt comfortable on it. I guess that isn't so true this year.

Because there is no factory or semi-factory 250 team for Suzuki.

Really pretty sad that Rockstar went to KTM this year after all the success they had with Suzuki. I can totally see the lack of support thing though. At least KTM isn't afraid to throw money/support at a class act. Suzuki kinda acts like they don't care...or can't afford to care.

I think it's the latter , remember Kawasaki , Yamaha , and Honda. Have many other divisions to help bail them out if one is not doing well , Suzuki only makes bike s , cars and boat motors , Honda makes just about everything , Yamaha makes all kinds off electronics , pianos , etc and Kawasaki heavy ind makes all kinds off machinery for factory's , cranes , const equipment ,even power tools , I would think that it's gotten so bad at Suzuki they are teetering on bankruptcy , with the marine market in the shitter the 4 bangers killing mx sales, and there cars need I say more , I think the only place they sell them is in some real poor country's ,

I bought a 2009 kx250f because it won in the shootouts and it turned out to be the worst cornering bike I've ever owned. I never listen to those

As far as privateers go, resale is horrible.

I had heard that Suzuki pays out contingency BUT they can only be used at Suzuki dealerships?

A few years ago I received a card from Honda contingency that was a Visa, I could use it anywhere to buy anything, I think that's what most manufacturers do except Suzuki ??

For the millionth time Suzuki makes more money than yammie kawie and ktm combined. THey are not hurting for money. Ktm makes by far the least out of all manufacturers and Honda by far the most followed by suzuki. If youre a yammie fan and want to add the piano/ music company I wouldn't recommend it as they have lost money 3 out of the last 5 years and the years they did make money it still doesn't help them come close to suzuki

As Mr Leib from rocket exhaust has mentioned previously, parts for suzukis are ridiculously expensive compared to honda. When you are a privateer that stuff matters...

I think he mentioned a new case for a RMZ250 is over twice as expensive as a case for a CRF250

The mechanical engineers on here might tear me up on this one, but the metal parts on Hondas always seem to be of much higher quality than the other brands - right down to the hardware.

I've mainly had Suzuki's most of my life and thought that constantly replacing hardware, etc. was a normal activity - until I owned a Honda.

Because I really love RMs, I'm willing to put up with it, but if every nickel counted, I'd be riding Red.

Kawi's and Suzukis have absolute junk hardware. My KTM has hardware that rivals Honda. All the bolt heads have both hex and Torx options. I thought the plastic/wood screws were a dumb idea, but in 3 years I have never had one strip or fall out. And they are super light.

Yep. Nothing beats Honda quality. I will put Yamaha right up there and now that I own a KTM (husky) I can say they are on par as well.

Kawi & Zooks are cheap.

But Zooks are great performance wise. Since the spawn of the modern four stroke, there hasn't been a more consistently good bike than a Zook.

But when it comes to what pros ride...contingency, parts prices, support, reliability all play a factor. And any OEM bike can be stripped down and made really nice.

And as far as I know, Zooks world wide sales are pretty darn strong.

This...

Double and triple the price on most OEM stuff.
