so are you going to give up the goods? I was knocked out a couple weeks ago and need a new helmet and am considering a 6d. A good deal would make it easier to pull the trigger on one.

I havent seen them for $200 off retail but I know Bob's Cycle supply ( Bobscycle.com) has them for like $649.99. You have to go all the way to full checkout before you see the actual price otherwise it just shows $745 on the website but at checkout they are $649. I got one for my son he hasnt used it yet but im pretty impressed with the overall helmet in general. I dont know about comfort because it wont fit my head.

Love mine. Fits my head perfectly and is light. I can feel the top of the helmet that other say is uncomfortable to them, but it doesn't bother me.

I was going to call you out for yanking us, but I think you came through. I just ordered mine and will confirm it's not from China as soon as I get it......or at least not a Chinese knock off.

-Thanks

Lol sorry. Kinda new to the vitalmx world. And it took me a little longer than expected to get the helmet. Being 24 and on my own, I figured it was a little bit of a better idea to have heat in groceries in my house than a fancy new helmet lol being grown up sucks!

Mine has 40+ hours of use including 4 Grand Prix races and 6 Hour race at Glen Helen. During the 6 Hour at GH I had a nasty get-off and went sky-ground-sky-ground snap, crackle-pop and broke 3 ribs. I'm sure my head smacked the ground a few times during the carnage but you wouldn't know it by looking at the helmet (there's a small scuff from my LEATT) but I felt completely fine, other than the ribs. This doesn't mean the helmet saved me, it could mean I just didn't smash my head, so take that with a grain of salt.

My background with helmets has been 10+ years of exclusively wearing Shoei motocross helmets. I did get a free Bell Moto8 from an industry friend as well as a Arai...but didn't like them compared to the Shoei. I have a "Shoei-Shaped-Head", but...I did wake up once on the side of a jump at Elsinore asking my bro if I won the race and it was the 3rd lap of practice on a non-race day...so since then, I've been interested in better technology.

Once the 6D helmets were introduced I did a shit-TON of research online, talked to industry friends, talked to online distributors about their customers feedback, talked to 6D in Brea, but it was not until I talked to Doug Dubach at Glen Helen during the World Vet that I made up my mind for good. Doug's been a long time Shoei guy and he was racing the exact same Chaos Blue 6D helmet I have here...while rocking the Shoei sponsor stickers on his bike Smile Doug's a family man and takes his safety seriously, and so am I. I figure with a mortgage, job, wife and two kids, there's just no reason to ignore a safer brain bucket.

Anyway, after about 5 months of use, my only one complaint is I managed to be a fuk-tard and tear a small piece of foam on the head liner, right at the bottom back of the helmet. This was my 7th or 8th time taking it out for a wash but instead of taking my time to pull on each section of the liner and un-snap the liner, I kinda yanked it out in one motion and a thin layer of foam tore away. The foam that tore away was a perfect, thin, even tear and the size two fingers in width and half a finger length, pretty small. So I Gorilla glued it back on there and i'd bet you couldn't tell unless I specefically pointed it out. There's absolutely no change to the comfort or fit of the helmet, it's the section inside, not visible outside and under the liner, just below the "DOT" logo and blue 6D logo in my picture here. Again, 100% operator error.

My final thought is gawd forbid if I did have a life changing head injury, I would always wonder if things would have been different if I had spent an extra couple hundred dollars on the "safer" helmet.

Just my 450cents, your mileage may vary. Smile

About to take the plunge for one next week. Any opinions on them would be much appreciated. Found a place that's selling them for almost $200 less than retail for brand new so I really don't want to pass the deal up. Just want to make sure I'm getting my money's worth!
Doubleclutch is the real deal!!

I just took delivery of my 6D, $600 OTD. As I mentioned I was going to call you out for seemingly yanking our collective chains. I can see why you wanted to wait though, they couldn't drop ship and had to take delivery then send it out to the customer - what if they found a higher bidder in the mean time? (after dealing with them I'm sure they don't work like that though) My friend asked where I ordered it from and I had to tell him "I let ya know in a few days" BTW I commend you for spending so much on a helmet with a tight budget. I guess we have $600 heads huh? I owe you one Dclutch, you saved me $150 simple as that; if you ever see me on the line and I'm in a better gate than you just ask and I'll trade gate picks with yaSmile

BTW I almost feel like a traitor to Troy Lee, I've enjoyed backing him and whatever he produces way back to the first TLD item I ever bought, a visor - probably one of the first production runs at that. I'll still be running TLD for life from "neck to shin".

Anybody still have the good deals on the 6d's? Looking to get one this week, but I'm not finding anything less than the $745. Looking for the Crusader Black/white in a medium.

The 6D technology has been used in football helmets for some time. One industries has their version of the helmet and FOX also has one coming out or it may be out?

Yes dirt gets trapped in the air gap and rattles around.

I heard a rumor that Bell is releasing test info disputing 6D’s claims in the next few weeks. This may have something to do with the new custom helmets coming out where they scan your head and make the helmet fit to the contour of your head. Price tag around $1K…

Though the 6D may prevent concussions I’m not sure it protects as well in a high speed impact?

An independent company would need to conduct tests comparing all of the helmets for true results.

My next helmet will be a Bell Moto 9. I believe the 6D is a great helmet but I think more balance between high speed protection and low speed protection is needed. 6D may have Shoei, Arai, and Bell beat in the low speed area, but I think they lack in high speed protection compared to the competition. Not the mention the competition is cheaper.
1. Define high speed.
2. How is the protection different from one helmet to another in this area.

I personally use a European Specific Airoh. I believe the European test standards are better suited for MX specific riding.
I think all helmet companies could benefit if testing standards could be defined by the terrain the helmet will be used in.
I am just curious how others come to decisions in regards to safety equipment.

You guys that bought them. How is there sizing compared to Bell? I wear a medium bell, but my measurements say I should were a small 6d. My bell medium fits good and snug.

Go with what the measurements say. I got a small and it fits perfectly snug. I used to run Med TLD SE3's and they loosen up to be a bit big, which I adjusted with diff size cheekpads.

Between street bike, motocross, mountain bike, and even kart helmet when I was little, I probably have about 15 Bell helmets. With that being said, I think Bell must be really feeling intimidated and/or a little bit concerned that they may not be on the cutting edge of technology to do try and refute the 6D claims. I think 6D is moving in the right direction (especially after seeing Zack Bell not die in Dallas, although I do think he was KO'd)

Zach Bell's crash was a great advertisement for the helmets but I think Wil Hahn's crash and resulting injury may need some examination. Cracked skull? His brain sounds like it's good but and that's the main point of a helmet. Anyone else got any news on that?

Why???

How many incredibly brutal crashes involving pro MX/SX riders have you seen? How many have gotten cracked skulls?

Over the last 5-7 years there have been some pretty bad ones and none of them have resulted in a cracked skull that I am aware of. A brand new(?) helmet design comes out and within a year or two a pro MX/SX rider cracks his skull.

Seems worth examining.
