Due to KTM s dominance in the 85 ccm category Kawasaki upgraded their KX 85 for 2014.

Now there is rumors that they will release an all new KX 125 2 stroke in 2015.

Is there anyone who have more info on this topic ?

I doubt they will.....but they should!

Getting rid of the 125 class ( or close to it ).....was the biggest mistake the big four ever made. Basically we have kids coming strait off the 85's....to a 250F which dang near pulls the same kind of power our older 250 2 strokes did.....just a little more controllable.

Out of any 2 stroke class alive......the 125 class is the most important out of all of them! Always has been....and always will be! IT IS the best " transitional bike " ever made.........staying comfortable with the 2 stroke power , but being able to adjust to a full size bike.....is priceless experience in my eyes!

Oddly enough I heard the same thing yesterday at the local track. I don't see it happening BUT it's weird that I heard the same thing in two days...

Matthes hates two strokes. And his rumors are usually true. So not likely.

You are wise beyond your years, young man! THIS is the truest statement regarding the demise of two-strokes ever posted. I've been saying this since day one. Not a slam against four-strokes, but the 125cc two-stroke is needed for just the reasons you have posted here. Will we ever see them again from the big four? Who knows? Oh, and lets not forget to let the AMA share some of the responsibility. They're the keeper of the rules.

True, but he's been pretty clear about their death in modern moto. Pretty sure he's not stroking the flames here.

If Kawi did this, doubt they would make it over here to the US.... It would be great tho... yz and KTM have the market cornered in Schoolboy class!

Why does he hate 2 strokes? Be interested in hearing his thoughts seeing as he must have lots of experience working on them.

"Now there is rumors"

In your head?

Its possible. 2 years back I was talking to a Kawi rep at a bike show and mentioned that I had read online that there were rumors about the KX 2 strokes returning in the near future and he said "you never know, anything is possible" and then veered away from the topic. I think they will!

This right here is why we chose to go with a Husqvarna CR125 for my son. He was too tall for his CR85 but too skinny and short for the 250F. The 125cc 2-stroke was the perfect stepping stone for moving up to a CRF250R. Manageable weight for a kid who is 5'8" and 115lbs soaking wet, but still a full sized bike for him to get comfortable on. Also, the price really helped to make it a stepping stone.

If you were to ask the Kawasaki management about making a KX125, this is what they would say: "We already make a KX250f for that class". and you know what happens to kids and Dads that think they need a 125 after getting off 85's? they ride it 3 months, then say they want a 250F to be more competitive.

I understand there is a big difference between AMA vs FIM and US vs Europe when it comes to the 125 class

When the 250F came and 125´s almost vanished, the need and lack of the 125 became more and more visible. It became clear that the gap from a 85ccm to a 250F was too big of a step for many riders. The rise in serious accidents and 3 young deaths from sweden in one season made it clear that something had to be done.

The Norwegian federation made a new national class in 2011 : MX Junior 125, from the year u turn 14 - 18 year of age.
This class is now in 2014 one of the biggest at the national races.

FIM and Youthstream also have the European 125 Championship EMX 125 a series of 8 races that follows the World championship with massive success.

Why should the big four sit and watch KTM gather almost 100% of the market in this class?

Maybe Kawasaki want a pice of that cake ?

You have to think about cross over marketing also. How many kids move over to a 125 after 85's and only have the choice of KTM, Husky (KTM), or Yamaha and then buy a 250f later on down the line from the SAME manufacturer.

Also, how many families leave the sport after the transition from 85's to 250f's because they either watch their child auger themselves in to the ground over and over again or find the steep financial curve that it costs to go from maintaining an 85 to maintaining a 250f. There's no easy transition.

While this is true, and does happen, is isnt true. Its true they get rid of the little bike after 3 months but its not near true you need a 250f to be a competitive rider. I know a guy who ordered a 14 150SX the week they announced the 14's and then a few months back got a 14 Husky 250f because he wanted to win. I'll attach a video below that proves that you dont need a 125 to beat a 250f. **SPOILER**: Its a supermini beating a 450 Wink

I just got a yamaha, and IMO kawi better make big strides to jump ahead of it (if they make one). The yamahas were well ahead of them in stock form when they quit making them. Hell, the basically unchanged since 2005 yamaha still wins shootouts against the KTM's.
