Didn't this RV is not racing the nationals story start around the time of the seattle SX with a poster from Washington saying he heard from a guy that knows RV really well say he was over it all and there was some 'issues' going on?

Actually it started with DC who promotes the Nationals. Maybe the guy with the most to lose here. He has been consistent with the story all the way up to this weekend's racerhead column. He has only mentioned that there was a knee issue. Which everyone knows about now.

PulpMX just kind of confirmed that AND expanded that there was more to it than that(personal reasons), even throwing out that there was retirement possibilities.

Some of you are crazy to think that this all started on Vital.

2thefront, I understand, somewhat what you're trying to say, but you have to understand how silly it is to continually debate a topic about a rider based on what others have said when the most recent update on the topic comes directly from that rider and completely contradicts what you and they are saying.
As of right now RV IS racing outdoors. Sure he may back out later if he further aggravates something, injures something else, gets deathly ill, has a loss in the family, gets an anonymous donation of $20 million from all of his competition at the end of the nationals as long as he doesn't show up, etc.
Of course something could happen, but you have to understand how ridiculous it is to question it so much when at this point in time, right now, the most credible bit of information about RV's status is directly from RV himself saying he will be there.
Save the what ifs for when they're necessary.
What if giant meteors come down on very track in the series? Then there won't even be a series! OMG!!! HAS EVERYONE HEARD? THERE MAY NOT BE AN OUTDOOR SERIES THIS YEAR!!!
Ok, so case closed then until a press release comes out saying otherwise?? Got it. No need to discuss big moto news here I guess.

Look, this just happened last night....I'm not 2 weeks later debating the topic. I guess you'd prefer posts in the RV's crappy interview threads? Or talk about 2 strokes vs 4 strokes?

This has been a topic for 3 weeks from reporters that know what they're talking about and evidence that backs their reports up. One comment from RV to the contrary when he has nothing to lose by saying he's racing the nationals completely brings the topic to a halt??

Right, I understand that....I should have been clearer as I was talking about RV bringing up the vitalmx stuff to guyb in that exchange with cox, guyb, and weedge...in that same thread where it was brought up that Matthes said he wasn't racing. there was a guy on here (pilotdude) saying he heard from a guy that spoke with RV for hours at Seattle and went on and on about all the reasons he wasn't going to ride outdoors.

http://www.vitalmx.com/forums/Moto-Related,20/Villopoto-missing-outdoor…
Heck, don't feel sorry for me at all Jama. I am pumped that he has finally come out and said that he is actually riding the Nationals, and was always hoping what I was hearing from multiple sources was not true. Those sources included DC, Steve Cox, Steve Matthes, JT$, and the friend whose info I relayed in that thread. All those guys, who definitely have their fingers on the pulse of the sport, were hearing things that pointed to RV NOT riding outdoors. These things were not pulled out of thin air, and those guys don't gain much if anything by fabricating them, especially DC.

Given recent history in this sport, can anyone really blame people for believing he wasn't going to ride the Nationals? Anyone ever hear of, oh I don't know, McGrath, Reed, or Stewart?

RV: "At this point in time, I'm riding the Nationals, yes. Otherwise, you can go read Vital if you want.".

At this point in time

That, my friends, is called a qualifier. It leaves him an out, as others here have pointed out. I certainly hope he rides, but I was also hoping he was going to ride the MXdN last year as well, and then heard rumors that he was not going to ride for Team USA before it became official. How did those rumors turn out? They turned out to be true.

I am glad that these rumors appear to be untrue. However, as GuyB said, let's see how this plays out. And as Kongols said, let's wait until Glen Helen.

If RV does have an injury, then perhaps he will get it fixed after outdoors. May be a repeat of last year, timing wise, and miss MXDN.

I didn't start this rumor, but I did report on it with great concern and hoped that he would be able to go. The situation was being discussed openly by people who would know at the MotoGP in Austin three weeks ago, people affiliated with teams and sponsors, but of course RV wasn't there himself -- he was racing!
I believe Ryan is the best all-around rider in the world now -- has been for several years now -- as well as one of the all-time best racers ever, so we are all lucky as fans and enthusiasts that he has chosen to line up this summer and defend his other championship!
And congrats to Ryan and his whole team and family and supporters for winning four in a row!

That guy sure does have a lot of family show up at races that he doesn't "care" about. RV is about the most "into" it dude that ever lined up. His family obviously get it. Race or don't race this summer...we have all been privaliged to witness this talent. Not many like him.

so after the 'no outdoors' rumour there is the 'who spread the rumour' discussion now.

You reported it, I believe Mattes said he was 99% sure, and JT$ said he was probably out. Then RV turns around and blames vital members for spreading the rumor. Silly

Or to leverage a resolution of his situation for next year.

Does anyone really believe something wasn't (isn't?) up? Whatever, it's good that he's giving his word he'll be there because any race with RV in it is a better race for fans. Looking forward to it!

This is why I've started to like this forum. The rumor gets started, the wrong retract, and the right smash it in their face. Then bears come out.

RV can do whatever the hell he wants. He's a grown man.
