From the scenery, to the tracks, to the crowds! Maybe it's just the way they're presented on TV, but I'm definitely impressed. They look very professional. Do they build all the grand stands at each event?

The stand at at Sevlievo is permanent isn't it?

They usually only build stands at a GP for the VIPs or for suckers willing to pay an additional cost.

The difference between the GPs and our nationals are that when a GP is held it is like a once a year major event and the host country and venue goes all out to showcase themselves. Over here the series just jots around in the US so other than each promoter trying to showcase themselves it is just another race. Now if we were part of the GP circuit and our only chance every year to see the top guys was at the USGP then that event and venue would go all out as well.

Yeah, they used to build them here in Kegums too. There was room for 100+ people but they could fill maybe 10%. It was called VIP but in reality you couldn`t see shit from there.

I get that, but you would think with the package they have, it would attract the best of the best racing in one series. Kinda like Moto GP has. It's weird how a moto gp or F1 c'ship is the most prestigious, but on the MX side a American national title is more prestigious or is it anymore?

It's all about the money. If a rider like RV can make the $$$ here and stay and sleep in his own home then why go to Europe?

The opening scenery for that round in Italy was beautiful, and the tracks are nice too..

Italy and this round were good crowds and excellent views, the 1st 2 races were ghost towns.

Last week the Italian GP was probably the best so far

That track I just saw in Bulgaria was brutal to the second power.

The last 3 tracks looked like a blast to ride, now the mud today made it tricky but still a cool track.

What people have responded with to GP fans who claim Americans discount the GPs is that it was on YS as promoter to expose the racing to American fans. Having finally done so by getting TV here over the last two years, you're seeing the appreciation that comes when any motocross fan finally gets to see riders of that caliber.

Not that the BS will stop, but there you go.

Excuse my ignorance on the GP's but did anyone else notice MX2 only had 27 riders in moto 2 and MX1 had like 23.
Is this always the case?

The answer to the most prestigious question might be akin to the age old adage "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Taking the racing "who is the fastest" "who is the best" questions out of the equation and just looking at the venues alone without a doubt it IMO doesn't get any more prestigious to be traveling the world racing MX in the hunt for a world championship.

I continue to respect what Brad Lackey went through for TEN years chasing a 500cc world title.

EDIT Regarding who is the best and who is the fastest I think it is almost apples and oranges to compare our racers to "their" racers (due to the SX influence here) but the best MX comparison takes place at the MXoN and not in multi page my rider is faster than your rider threads. Looking forward to Latvia.

Fair question. Have you ever been to Europe or a GP?

To each their own but If I had the skills you betcha I'd spend a year or two across the pond racing the GPs. I'm an American and proud to be one but i also appreciate the benefit of being exposed to different cultures. Just being at a GP with a foreign language coming over the PA is an adjustment and I can only imagine how it would be to be based out of Lommel (the Corona, CA of Europe) or somewhere in Italy.

Old school riders still remember the allure of the GPs while the young guns weren't exposed to the Trans AMs and Lackey and Laporte's World Titles but I can understand the young guns today don't look at the GPs the same way.

Hoping with American Thomas Covington in MX2 this will draw US attention the series. Hope RV just wasn't whistling dixie when he said he would consider having his last year be in MXGP.

Some racer has to do it sometime.....they have to.......also on that have to list.....1) joint GP/National event.......2) .Kate Upton having car trouble just in front of me.........

I agree - I signed up and paid my £4 for the first time this season to watch online and didn't even finish watching the motos. One thing is for sure, the Yanks do a much better job at presenting the series and putting a TV package together.

I agree also. I'm a die hard fan and always will be, but a GP moto with no battles will put me to sleep in a hurry.

Hard to say you'd go across the pond until you are in that position. There's a reason that the top guys don't go over and race the World Championship. Much respect to Lackey for his accomplishment and for trying. I'd put a grand on it that RV DGAF about any GP race if I wasn't a poor SOB.

Yeah. You know its bad when they are interviewing a rider (Herlings) about a DIFFERENT race while the race they're commentating on is in progress.

You have 1 year to race 1 series, all expenses paid and you're on equal equipment. AMA nats or MXGP?

id go MXGP in a heartbeat, traveling the world and racing places like the italian alps is a little more appealing than tennessee in the middle of summer

Bulgaria unfortunately was possibly the worst this year due to the weather, typical on a weekend when a lot of Americans tuned in as there wasn't any racing over there, but there are a fair share of AMA Nationals that are strung out with not much going on too,it just happens, last week Italy was awesome!

As I said in another thread, although Malin is exceptionally knowledgible and mixes with the riders all weekend etc,it's tough commemtating for hours on his own,he needs someone with him to bounce off like Bailey at the USGP

Youthstream's promotion of the FIM Motocross World Championship is an emotive topic.

There is no prizemoney at all, startfee is 1000 Euro each race wich probably is the reason for the increasingly sparse line-ups behind the start-gate, where pay-to-play Grand Prix competitors have been able to simply purchase a 'ticket to ride' regardless of their ability on a motocross bike.

But what you don't realise is there is a system in place. The way it works is riders can race in the European championships at the exact same events as MXGP. If they do well, they will get noticed and picked up to ride in the World Championship. If the rider doesn't have a sponsor to pay 1000 euro entry fee, then he is probably not good enough to be racing.
It's not rocket science. It's not the FIM 40 man race. It's the world championship, the best vs the best. If the front runners are lapping, it adds in another luck element. Another guy is not a stationary object and can take one of the front runners out at anytime.
Think about it. Anyone who is fast enough to run top 10, will be picked up and sponsored.
If there was money up for grabs, it would just make Cairoli's pockets deeper. These riders are on bonuses from sponsors. It's not like they are getting nothing.

Just a little food for thought.
