I hope he does I like Tyler and honestly I think he needs to get out of AX and prove that he can run a full SX season on a 450.

tyler don't need to "prove" anything. you do realize he's only running arenacross because he is going to college right?
I think everyone took my comment the wrong way. I don't mean he HAS to prove something. I meant he should go shut up some of the Nay sayers ya know. I really like Tyler and have watched him since the beggining and back in the day when he was on I think BOOKOO honda or HH when they started out the Rides werent up to par for him plus he was like 16 on a 450. Dont get me wrong If I was in his shoes I wouldnt mind the paychecks for AX that I was getting so I guess its up in the air for me with him. I think hes a bad ass dude either way sorry if I came off as doubting him didnt mean it that way.

I'm surprised you got your throat jumped down for this one, I thought this was a generally accepted opinion these days. My first degree was useless. I went to college because my parents wanted me to, and learned nothing. Now years later I went because I actually wanted to accomplish something, and I'm learning a ton and having great success so far. I shudder to think about what I could have done with the time and money I wasted on the first go-round. I think the moral of the story is that no one should go to college just to go. Have a goal and a reason to be there and it's fine, if you're going because society thinks you should then you have just fallen for a massively successful marketing scheme.

May I ask the obvious question here? Why are so many of you getting so damn worked up over this? The dude has found a way to make a good living. He also decided he wanted to go to college. Who cares what his reasoning is behind it...he has the ability to do it, the means to do it and the desire to do it. Shouldn't be much more to it than that.

Sad but true. Here you have one of them. I did work part time always to pay my bills while on college. After a degree, bs and masters program, I'm left with no job.

You guys forgot to mention he also makes some money by racing the Costa Rica nationals... he's the 2013 champ I believe... He also won some races in Germany...

Bowers probably makes more in a single weekend than Decotis, Lemoine, or Friese made so far in 250 East...

I think a lot of us see potential in Tyler and would like to see him test himself against the best. Same could be said of Fasciotti up in Canada. Come on down and ride against better guys in your prime and see how you do. Leave nothing on the table when it comes to knowing how good you can be in sports

And if anybody is keeping score, I think its cool hes in college. I hated college. Bored the living hell out of me. Girls were cute though.

I get what you're saying. Hell, as a fan I would like to see him race the SX series, too. But I also try to keep in mind this is more than a hobby for these guys and it's their means to making a living. So in that regard, I try to look at it through my business glasses and respect the hell out of him for making money when he can. It's a short window in this sport so make the most you can, while you can.

This sport freaking blows if you're a professional rider. Bowers seems to be making some great decisions.

Regarding education, I like facts not anecdotes.

College graduates earn 84% more than high school grads.

Also, on average, college graduates make ONE MILLION DOLLARS MORE than students with only a high school diploma. My guess is that most college graduates aren't coming out of school with $1,000,000 debt.

I wish Bowers and Facciotti would ride full time in the US... but the thing is, even after his win at Las Vegas,Bowers said no one talked to him about doing SX the following year...

They could probably get someone to pay most of their expenses to race SX but Bowers wouldn't be making 70k + salary unless he wins a few 250 races... Loose money to prove yourself or make 70+k...

Bowers won a SX... Facciotti got top 5 on a 450 outdoor.... They've shown what they can do.

Like someone said above, you have to go to want to go to college to be successful in college. Just going because "you're supposed to" isn't going to get you very far.

Also, that statistic clearly says college graduates. There is a big difference in going to college and graduating from college.

Edit: I forgot to say that I agree with dgmx. It's pretty annoying when people act as if there are only two options in life. Plenty of college graduates are struggling to pay their bills, while at the same time, there are many people making 6+ figure salaries that didn't do schooling past high school. There is more to life than going to college or not going to college.

Hey GeorgiePorgie when you get sick make sure to go visit a facility where the doctor, nurse, histologist, radiologist do not have degrees.

When you want to open that business make sure to work with accountants, lawyers, bank managers, engineers, CFOs, CEOs, COOs, that do not have degrees.

I am sure the person who designed the bike you ride, helmet you wear and fuel you put in the tank do not have college degrees.
Eddie....I am a nurse. I'm still enrolled in school because that's all they want is you to get more education (BOGUS EDUCATION) where we aren't learning anything, we are just funneling money to institutions. I can sit there try my hardest or not so hard and still pull a 4.0. That's really helping our economy.

I got my RN, will have my BSN in June from an online school.

Will start Anesthesia school in August (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist). In 29 months I'll be putting you all to sleep when you're having surgery. The starting salary is 130,000. Sounds enormous right? Well not really because I'll be about 165,000 in debt with student loans. Hmm...then what about my mortgage? Yikes.....that's another story that I signed up for, no fault but my own. But at least my interest rate is 3.0% and I HAVE SOMETHING other than a piece of paper.

My grandfather worked in a steel mill and cranked out 100,000/year for 20 years solid with no student loan interest to pay back. Those jobs don't exist now. College is scam. We can't race dirt bikes on $50,000 a year with Student loan debt.

I can agree I need the education to be a Nurse anesthetist. But does it have to cost $165,000 at 8.0% interest??????? Come on.

I hope Bowers can figure out how to maintain an adequate living with his god given talents after Arenancross. But leaving AX to SX is not the way to do it if he's making money now.

I look at it this way: find something not many people can do, or something not many people are willing to do, and then charge the shit out of people for it. This could mean going to school to be a surgeon or pumping shit out of holding tanks, it doesn't matter. I think both sides making their arguments as absolutes need to take a step back and breathe (or "breath" for the moto community, haha).

To each his own. My gf and I have degrees and know that we will never get rich. We also live in an RV w/ our 2 dogs and most of our friends and family think we're crazy. Meanwhile our combined rent is $405 /mo with utilities included, we live on a river, go biking, kayaking, tubing, I get to ride, live happy and healthy, and are steadily saving up our money. We have friends that have nice cars, big houses, and enjoy the finer things in life but sure seem to be stressed out a lot.
It's not all about the money you make and/or spend. Do something you feel good about, look at the bright side of the things that suck, and set overall broad long-term goals that are broken down into smaller reasonable short-term goals. That's been my approach to life, but like I said to each his own.

I was really impressed with Bowers on the Pulp show. Truthfully before this he seemed like a bit of a meathead with his macho image. But I didn't know much about him.
But what I heard on Pulp was a really intelligent, focused person who seems to have a lot of depth.

Sitting here during my lunch break, so I decided to do a little digging into AX payout and Kawasaki contingency payout. I wrote down how Bowers finished in each event, and calculated that with one round of AX remaining, he has made $39,800 in purse money and contingency money so far. With one night of racing left, assuming he wins that night, and wins the championship, he will pocket $67,800 for three months of racing AX. The championship pays $25,000 to 1st place. That doesn't include any salary that he is paid from Babbits, or any salary from his gear sponsors etc.
A friend of mine who was mid pack 250f in the mains in supercross said he made way better money in Ax

I wonder if Tyler still loves his peas, mind you the college peas probably taste nicer than the wholesome Farm variety.

Good luck to the man with the Final AX and he would make SX more interesting, hard to believe considering how great a season we have seen.

Same thing all my non-degree'd friends say...I just think to myself "I still make $20k more than you with a years worth of loan payments subtracted from my salary"

That being said, do you have to go to college to have a good paying job? Nope! I just get tired of getting grouped in with the people who spend $100k towards their masters in a non-existent field.

As for Bowers, would be good to see him give SX a go once he graduates college. I don't think it's realistic for him to race SX full time when he can't put 100% time and effort into training.
