Gutted for the kid, he was killing it. I hope he decides to get the surgery now, in my experience that is the only way to make it right again. Actually i'm hoping this 3rd surgery of mine is a charm.
He is likely going to lose this title due to this injury. This is a game changing moment for him, and I am sure he will use it as motivation in the future. But its obviously understandable how devastating it is. He had it in his grasp. I just hope that this shoulder doesn't become a long term chronic injury. People I know who have shoulder injuries (myself included), know that shoulders can sometimes never heal correctly. I am sure he will get the surgeries to be sure he has the best shot, but man, that kind of dislocation doesn't look good... Hoping for a clean recovery and a successful return. I hope he doesn't shred himself further trying to eek out this title.

That was emotion from realizing he has a real problem. 4 points down is a bummer but not a need to be consoled like that. That was a realization that it came out multiple times and won't be something he can just ride through. He tried like a champ.
I am gutted for him. Obviously he is so young and has so many people surrounding him that I am sure whatever needs to be done will be done. He'll get through it.
Truly a touching moment...
The outdoors was where we were really going to see if how he matched up against the top contenders and his old rival Webb. I'm still hoping it isn't as bad as it looked. Get well soon AC - he definitely adds excitement to the sport.
The kid seems destined to moto-greatness, I just hope this isn't going to haunt him.
During the telecast why said that the crash didn't injure his shoulder. The first should pop out happened later.
That being said, technology and procedures have improved significantly since 1994. I would have no trouble believing that if he underwent a surgical procedure immediately, and then underwent an intensive physical rehabilitation program starting also almost immediately, he could make the nationals AND be pretty close to where he was before the injury (maybe even 100%.)
I am not a doctor, but I know A LOT of them and I also know that the options for a top level athlete like Adam are pretty impressive. If it IS possible, it would involve making the difficult decision to remove him from the supercross season now, with the bet that he could still kill it in the outdoors.
I would guess that those are the options currently being weighed by AC, his family, his team, and his doctors.

Thanks for the clarification, I wasn't sure.
I'd say he would be a long shot for next week, but it might be possible. Mine usually it feels back to strength in a couple weeks. I know, I know, all injuries are different.
The part that sucks the most... at this point if he pulls out to get surgery, is there enough time to be recovered for outdoors?
I really feel for the kid, he was looking so good.
Originally went to another doc who said he'd do a Bristow procedure and that I should stop doing mx...the "stop mx" comment told me right there that this was NOT the doc for me.
Some mx buddies recommenedd I go to Dr Almquist...what a difference! He asked what the other doc had told me and he then made some comment about the guy being "archaic" and that instead of the Bristow procedure, he'd be doing a Bankart procedure with a screw and that I'd be good as new and back on a bike in no time. So glad I made the visit to Almquist and dumped the other guy!
Unfortunately we have been down this path. My son had left fixed twice and right once. AC is young and has a good career ahead of him. I'd go with getting it fixed right away and show up next year.
I just looked up those dates and can't believe I came back for Southwick that soon. I never should have been out there. I threw myself to the wolves so to speak. Oh, to be young and dumb. I just wanted to race my bike, get paid (my contract was set up to be paid more per race than a salary) and experience the ride I had.
At a much, much different level, I had a very similar day as AC and it brought back some bummer memories. My shoulder came out in practice and went back in after a few minutes. I tried to convince myself it was going to be ok. Lined up for the qualifier and popped it out on the first lap coming up short on a little double, not even crashing while in 2nd. I was devastated.
Like I said, I understand this is nowhere near the level of AC, but the emotions that followed were similar watching him on TV. I spent a few years just trying to get that ride, a lot of work once I got it and then sitting at the race after it came out twice I was just emotionally wrecked knowing a surgery and a lot of time was coming up.
AC will be ok, he will go on to win championships. I just hope he rests, gets whatever needs to be done and has it done right. Would hate to see lingering shoulder injury hurt his career. But then again, I was never 4 points out of a SX championship. The sport can be brutal.
