What puzzled me always is why EVERYONE says the "scrub" is scrubbing off speed??? When it is NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The scrub is "scrubbing" off HIGHT......not speed!
The scrub is intended to be able to hit jump faces faster and still land on the backside of another jump.
I can remember times of Guy Cooper back 25years ago doing the scrub too. James didn't invent it, but IMO he definitely perfected it and brought it to a different level for sure.
BTW.....If any of you flamers wanna argue the speed vs hight debate start you tubing some videos of James passing guys in the air ......tell me he's "slowing down" off the jump faces when he flys past them while flying under them!
.
He may not of invented it.....but he sure as heck perfected it. MC was pretty good at it back in the day too.....but not to the extremes James did it. First time I saw it.....my jaw dropped.
Not the originator James just used better equipment to advance the technique. What the younger riders don't know is bikes broke back in the old days not only did you have to know how to ride fast you had to keep your sh!t together. Thanks that was the photo I was thinking of. Try scrubbing any of the old period correct suspension and not end up on your head. I don't mean the Racetech enhanced stuff either.
Those shots at Glen Helen were some fun scrubs to shoot.
Amazing shots too!!!!
When still framed like that it looks as if their would be no way he couldn't have crashed! You would think that he would have had to have speared a footpeg or bar end into the dirt!
