we eat asparagus all spring and summer. the irrigation ditches on my dad's property is thick with the stuff. i'll try it out, thanks for the heads up

The sick thing is that there are doctors out there that have found the cure to all types of cancer. Yet mysteriously the drug companies will not put forward the dollars to get the proper research to become approved by the FDA. It all boils down to money and there is a ton of money in sickness. Just goes to show you how fucked up our world is.

The fact that your urine smells like asparagus minutes after you eat it tells me it gets into your system and does something pretty damn quick.....gave some to the baby (18months) and her morning diaper the next day was a 10 pound asparagus bomb

I've had several skin cancers cut out and burned off. Lucky for me, they have all been basal cell and squamous cell cancers. I have to go to the doctor every six months for an inspection. I'm 46 but this is all because of sun damage done when I was in my teens and twentys. Use sunscreen people and stay out of the direct sun as much as possible.

There are a bunch of things but it's more to do with the complexion that comes with the red hair, that lack of colour, transparent skin is a lack of pigment or melatonin in your skin– means you burn more easily and quicker.... burn means damage, damage means mutation and potentially cancer.

Having said that, it can happen to anyone.

It makes me mad that I did't wear more protection when I was little, it is totally preventable to even be in a situation where you're thinking about these things. Stay safe!
How about all the people that pay to lay in tanning beds. Shit cannot be good.

Two weeks ago I had a skin cancer removed next to my left eye got a 3 inch scar now! To much moto in the sun back in the day they say, no Ez ups back in the 80's, we were out in the sun all day race days, this is the 2nd skin cancer operation i have had. It's no joke skin cancer is bad shit it will kill you!.

I've had skin cancer and cancer that required the worst chemo and radiation that exists. I'm also an RN on a hospital oncology floor. Get annual checkups, and learn cancer warning signs. Most any cancer that is caught early can be treated effectively. I have patients ignore the signs and show up at the hospital and they are done. It's really tragic.
Hope RC is OK but if that's melanoma he'll need more than surgery.

Some amazing stories guys.

Bottom line is goto the Doc, and goto a skin specialist if you can. Some GPs don't know what they're looking for. I went to get my asthma script refilled 3 weeks back, the last mole I just had removed, the skin doc said fuck get that out. The normal doc thought it was fine. Turns out it was rapidly going the wrong way.

Tanning beds? Idiots.

Thanks for the post, Crush. I too have had several questionable spots removed over the past 5 years or so. When I'm at the track I wear a rather large floppy hat. I used to make fun of my dad (decades ago) about wearing his because it made him look older. I guess older was wiser in this case.

I grew up racing on the Florida Gulf Coast, went to school in Tallahassee at FSU. I had a stage IIB melanoma and some lymph nodes removed in 2000. From my lower left arm that rode in the van window on the way to races in the days before AC. Did a year (yes, a freakin' year!) of Interferon chemo. It's like you have the worst flu of your life for the entire year. I was 40 years old and couldn't make it up a flight of stairs without stopping to rest. Sucked.

Once I kicked Melanoma's ass, I started racing again in 2002. What the Hell, why not. Made it almost 14 years before I had another one removed last December. Got this one early and now my dermatologist looks like a Miss America contestantWoohoo . Almost makes the quarterly full body scan tolerable. Good thing chicks dig scars and dirt bikes help perfect them.

I am the poster child for "wear sunscreen kids" these days. All cancer sucks. Somebody needs to show this thread to Villopoto and Canard.

Blonde hair here, and have had all 3 types of it, luckily they caught the melanoma early enough so I didn't have to have the sentinel lymph nodes poked, or any of the other nasty shit my dermatologist was talking about. He told me as a basic rule if it grows to around 1mm deep then you have some serious problems, mine was .1mm or so. This all comes from growing up in FL running around half naked most of the time. Back then nobody knew about that shit. So yeah, I wear the goofy floppy hat, and use sunscreen now. My doc scared the shit outta me with that conversation, that was a pretty un-easy week for me waiting on the biopsy results. That hole on RC's leg looks pretty nasty. I hope they got it all.

and its been 8 months now since surgery...Told there was no medical cure for me....Cancer sucks.

My wife was diagnosed with malignant melanoma a few years back.
I found a little freckle on her skin above the right knee area ( it had changed color, to a purplish color) maybe 1/8"diameter.
I told her we better have that looked at. She did and a couple days later,
We were at Mammoth mountain & I got a call from her physician and he said get her here as fast as you can & I might be able to save her life!! This was completely shocking to us. Got her home and She had a sentinel lymph node biopsy (eight hour surgery) the dr was not sure she would come out of it ok. She did great and now has a giant scar on her leg. I told her it's the most beautiful scar I've ever seen (she's alive) she is fine now.
Dr told us it's not what you did last year, it's what you did fifteen years ago.
So boys take the time to put on the sun screen & wear that goofy big hat.

I'm actually kind of speechless when it comes to something like this , but all I can say is , that I'm glad you became a member here and I got to know your online persona a little here on the MX forum. This hits home with me. Dad had colon cancer. Mom lost most of a lung. My thoughts are with you. Chemo sucks. Keep fighting!

My father in law had a lung cancer, in a very late stage. He went through all kinds of therapy but it seemed nothing helped so they gave up. Doctors gave him half a year. That was 3 years ago. They ran some tests about 7 month ago and cancer is gone.
That's amazing. I don't know how that is even possible.

My dad went to the dr. for back pain. They did a scan sent him to hospital found out he had stage 4 kidney cancer. Year later he was gone. This was last year. Cancer sucks.

There's a book anyone with cancer should read. It's called Knockout by Suzanne Somers. She's actually not a dumb blonde. The book interviews doctors who are actually getting results with treating cancer.
mrquick, My prayers are with you. Please take a look at the book even it it's just to browse through it at a local book store.
The chapter I read was the interview with Dr Gonzalez (I believe that's his name) in New York.

All the Best Mr Quick, sounds like you are in for the fight of your life. Keep going man we need people to beat it and get these mother fukin drug companies to push there drugs onto the market place. I had 2 skin cancers on my face cut out last Sat find out Tuesday regarding that and how my liver is going.

Never knew I had Hep C until Xmas 2012 and have had Cancer of the Liver taced and after 6 months they gave me a Triple including Chemo , one of the old ones they reckon. I was on a 48 week program and after 20 weeks they called it off as I had problems with the Pegetron injections that were not mixing properly and after 16 weeks Hep C started coming back as Sometimes I was not getting any mixed drug at all. Fukin near killed me as I couldn't walk to toilet and at one stage I couldn't even watch the SOO which is like your Super Bowel, I went live for first one and have never ever missed seeing or listening to it. Fuk I was crook.

Had more tests last week and again find out Tuesday but having trouble with possible bleeding and a clot in my vein that goes into my fuked Liver, I asked the Doc after he told me just before he put me under to make sure I get at least 2 weeks as I want to go and shove a red hot poker up Mr Pegetron's arse before I go. It took me 9 weeks to get the crap out of my system, and I even played softball and swam with my little 10 year old Angel today.

But it is all good as we are only here to eat shit and die just wish I can get to see my Big girl go to University ( if she wants to)

Because they have less melanin in their skin than people with darker complexions. Melanin is a pigment the absorbs UV light, and it is very good at it. Why does that help? Because UV radiation is one of the biggest causes of mutations in your DNA. Specifically, UV radiation will cause two adjacent Thiamine bases in a DNA strand to fuse, creating a Thiamine dimer. Don't wait to get checked out! My wife bugged me about a odd mole for two years before I went to dermatologist. It was melanoma and i now have a huge scar on my bicep. The deeper it gets the worse off you are. Thankfully it didn't get to limp nodes yet.
