One more thing...anyone who owns Steel Roots 3 on DVD knows about MC's framed tribute to the douchebags at Fox where they all bet against him in '99 behind his back, then MC went and won his EFFIN' title back, and...oh, whadya know...MC went to NO Fear in 2000. I bet they tried similar crap with James. LOL

What a difference a day makes.
Yesterday, a lot of people on here were complaining how ugly all the new Fox gear was and that they wouldn't wear it.
Today, Fox is great and everyones going to buy their stuff because they refuse to support/sponsor a "supercross only" rider, and all the other gear manufacturers suck.

I find it hilarious that everyone jumps up and down about SX only but can't wait till the season starts.

The same guys that whinge and complain and bash riders for taking that path will be glued to their computers come A1 hangin on the results.

Get used to it! It aint goin away!

James and Reed, no matter what gear company they ride for, it isn't good to have them not be at the nats. James and Reed, are bigger than the gear companies. They can each write their own ticket. If one company doesn't want either of them because they don't race outdoors. There are 5 companies that still will take them at half a season. There was a time when everyone wanted to ride for Fox, and Honda. Those times have changed. Yeah, I'm sure guys would love to have either of them as sponsors. Thing is Fox and Honda are nowhere near what they used to be.
5 other companies may pick them up, but in light of the statement Fox is making I will be much more likely to start riding in there gear. Even if it look like a clown suit!

Has anyone been to the Mall lately? Do you think the mall rats are buying the crap out of fox stuff because of James Stewart? I doubt it.

Fox and JS will be just fine without one another.

Stewart could ride for Tampax and still look like a badmotherfucker. It's just interesting that Fox linked the split to a hot button topic like SX only contracts.

Like I said, both bullshit and brilliant at the same time

(Holigan brought up an excellent point in another thread: FOX sponsors the SX only Hart & Huntington team despite their moral obligation to support the Nationals!)

"James and Reed, are bigger than the gear companies. "

While it's true that Stewart and Reed are probably the two best riders right now, I disagree with that sentiment. Every gear company has its ups and downs with talent. Fox chose not to pursue MC and Pastrana when they were prime. Whether Fox has the same talent in the pipeline now may be a good question, but the company has made good decisions over many years, and I expect it will still be thriving five years from now when Stewart and Reed are long gone from SX.

Core or not, I think its a bad idea NOT to have the fastest rider in the world, not wearing your gear. If Fox was as core as think they are, I wouldn't be able to buy their stuff at the mall. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Fox being in the malls. James gets more camera time, in more magazines than any other rider, why wouldn't you not want him in your gear?
How much camera time and magazine exposure would have Fox got if James was Supercross only in 2008? Talk about putting youe eggs in one basket. I would rather have more riders on the line in my gear than betting on one to win every week.

How many people here have done a full season of outdoors? None, how about a SX? none! Now how about both, none!! A lot of you are pretty fast on your keyboards, train for one and see how much it takes out of you!!

Work smarter not harder, we should be complimenting these guy for seeing this. No matter if James or Reed or whom ever decides to not race outdoors, there is still going to be racing!!
Whether or not a Vital member has ever done a full season outdoors, indoors, or even turned Pro is irrelevant.

I'll bet Bobby’s not the only football fan here, yet he obviously expresses his opinion of that sport. I've seen comments on Formula 1, NASCAR, the Olympics, climbing Mt Everest, and a host of other sports. Yet, I'm guessing that very few, if any, of the members here have actually run their Ferrari up to 14,000 rpm's, gone 200 mph around Talladega, competed with Michael Phelps, or met up with a Sherpa to discuss what face to climb on the world's tallest rock.

We're fans of the MX/SX world, are on a message board pertaining to such, and can be expected to comment on what we feel is important to us and the sport.

More riders on the line who don't get camera time, or one rider on the line who is the fastest man alive on a bike right now? Fox can have 10 guys wearing their gear on the gate, but once the gate drops all eyes are on the the leader. On the podium, when JBS is mugging for pictures, those 10 fox guys are going to be in the pits.
I have never bought gear because of a rider. I buy what I like, presently have Fox, MSR,and Fly.
If that one rider is JBS your betting on, your money is safer than taking the entire field. Maybe you missed the outdoors?
I like the Fox the gear, so far I think I'm the only one who does. Just don't come off with excuse of a sx only contract to let someone you just said last year has a lifetime contract with you.

I thought that "gift" bad ass car Red Bull got Bubba was just a loaner not a keeper.....

any which way, props to Fox... and for Bubba, now is a bad time money wise to be hitting up clothing sponsors for record amounts of money.... doubt if anyone has the cash available to pony up for what he's asking for.... he might have to settle for "best offer" instead of "record deal"....

You are absolutely right, I find it funny as well!! These people that are so against SX should not turn on their computers or TVs as a boycott!! To show how "hardcore" they are. LOL...

Fans never get to see more then a glipse of James running MX anyway, unless you are at the event, he checks out by lap 2.

The TV coverage spends more time covering 2-10 then they do the leader.
9/11/2008 11:22am
James has been on Fox and Kawasaki since forever!!

He has won everything there is to win 125 sx, 125 mx, SX and MX, on Fox and Kawi. Maybe the guy just wants to see if he can do it again with an all new bike and look.
Also, there are more $$ options with seperate helmet, gear, and boot contracts. Not to mention that now he actually gets paid by the BIG energy drink guys. Monster sponsored Kawasaki, not James, so Red Bull is once again shelling out $$ for him. As far as the SX only deal goes that is NOT for certain YET. Last I heard they were still negoiating with Yamaha for MX. If he raced just for the glory of defending his title with NO MX contract, he would be risking injury for NOTHING! In bonus money alone just for the wins he made 1.2 million in 2008, then factor in the bonus for the title!!!!! If no one is willing to pony up for him to race the MX series then WHY would he risk the money that he can make in SX??

I hope that James and Chad both race outdoors!!!!

Someone actually gets it, good job!! You saw through the BS and know the real reasoning.

As for the guys that keep thinking he's gonna race the whole outdoors, you're fooling yourselves.

This isn't religion to these people, it's business. Both sides get to decide what the value of a deal is to them, and walking away from one another is a legitimate decision for both sides.

FOX sponsors SX only teams like Hart & Huntington they could care less if the riders will be doing SX and MX or only SX. I can't believe you people bought that PR spin.

MXA has an interview with Pete Fox, good read.

MXA: OBVIOUSLY FOX COULD HAVE UPPED THE ANTE AND KEPT JAMES, WHAT WERE THE MOTIVATIONS THAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO LET HIM GO, AND TO WHAT EXTENT DID JAMES' DECISION TO BECOME A SUPERCROSS-ONLY RIDER PLAY INTO YOUR NEGOTIATIONS WITH HIM?

Pete: Since our beginning, Fox has been totally committed to motocross and Supercross. We feel strongly that our sport and Industry need both series to be healthy, and Fox will always support both series. That is where Fox's priorities and path recently separated from James. We wish James luck with his Supercross career. Fox remains committed to the entire sport of both Supercross and motocross.

It is almost impossible to read the company names on gear when you attend a race in person and totally impossible to read on TV. And very hard in pictures. Very few riders buy gear based on what the top guys are wearing. In fact, unless you are super fast most people don't want to look like the top pros.

The gear companies are crazy to even give these guys free gear more less pay them millions $ to wear it.

Money down the toilet.

How much money could Bubba actually bring in to fox? How many of you guys buy gear because of who wears it? I always bought shit that fit me better. Fox did back in the late 80's but then I switched to MSR stuff and now to Thor. I never cared who wore the stuff. All those dollars anyone gives a big name rider, we all pay for that. Don't get me wrong, that's the point but it does put things in perspective. Bravo to Fox for not over paying and protecting their business. This could hurt Answer and that would be bad for the sport.

One of my buddies who is a parts manager stopped selling Fox at the dealership when he saw it at the mall. I just think that's funny.
