Does that bike really have an F at the end of it? I've never seen the F before on those. I've only ever seen them referred to as YZ400s.

I like to looking at vintage bike, but don't see riding one anytime soon. Crazy these guys race these with antiquated brakes and suspension. More power to you if you plan on riding it. Definitely one of the nicest YZ400's I've seen. I had that exact year bike as a YZ80.

My friend had a ratty yz400 when I was in the 8th grade. I remember there was no left side footpeg. Luckily the bike broke before he did.

Raced the E and F 400's back when. Good bikes. The problem these days is the piston availability for the F model is scarce, as it's a one year only bore size. The IT 425 pistons will work, but the liner starts getting pretty thin past a standard or first over It piston, which are also one year only bastard pistons.

Either way, both bikes would be nice to have in their original condition. The YZ400F was just the right size IMO.

Looks like a really nice bike and we're probably neighbors. Hope you get full price for it. I never rode the 400F but I did get to ride the 125 and 250 of that year and they've always been some of my favorite bike memories.

I remember being up in Penticton BC in the summer of 79 and seeing a white 400F and drooling all over it. It was the first white YZ I had seen in person and it looked much better than the pictures in the magazines.

Very perceptive! - Ruth Lake MX, Southern Trinity/Humboldt county so "high as shit" is a given.
Lance "Popeye" Burgess was also giving me a lesson on how to ride a TT500, so explains the dudes attention span....altough it is a bit before Michael Jacksons dance moves worked everyone up... but then again "high as shit"

I bought a 1979YZ400F new... $1800. Fun as hell, light. Great powerband, a breeze to keep running. I wish they'd run a couple thousand off the assembly line.
