Jason.....I don't have the time to read all that this morning as I have to head out to work. BUT.....good luck to your son Dawson! Everyone has to start from some where and he seems to be doing just fine.

P.S.......yeah , I know this is an old thread , but Since Jason replied I thought I would too.

There is no way a 3 year old should be making 2 dollars an hour.

I would think somewhere in the range of 50 cents an hour would be more appropriate.

That's not true.

Lots of riders have ridden themselves into beig a pro.

I was sitting in the stands at the LA Supercross round 1 in 97. I convinced myself I could do it. The next week I was racing. I had never ridden a SX track. The only advice I got was, "make sure you are I third gear for the triple" from Mike Craig

In 2000 I got my KTM ride

Heath Voss couldn't make a night show his first couple years, he made it to factory Yamaha and was world SX champ.

You may not have "it", but you can work yourself into havin it.
Good call Regis.

He seems like a good kid with goals and a good support system.

The amount of negative posts on this kids makes me sick. Then again sometimes it takes negative assholes to keep motivating some people.

Thanks for your positive perspective Regis. Hard work pays off.

Cool story i say! Nothing wrong with taking a different path. Those were man size whoops he was getting through. In a couple years why couldn't he be a lites ax main event guy, thats his goal right. More power to him!!!!

Good video, well put together, the kid can talk well, he's having fun, doing what he wants to do, his parents support him...people have some really stupid shit to say. All i can say is, who gives a fuck what people think, do your own thing. I see he wears O'neal gear. Lets get him set up with some Moto XXX swag too...hit me up at Jordan@motoxxx.com if you find anything like you like here at www.motoxxx.com ..if your interested.

How can anybody have anything bad to say about this guy and his dad? He sounds responsible and motivated. I wonder if RV, RD or any of the other top riders were training like Dawson when they were 14. Dawson Newby you have a newbie-fan! Not to be confused with a newbie who is a fan...

As an AX team manager, I would not sign him. There is no way he can beat my riders. I bet he does not make the night show, or even qualify through the timed qualifying. You have to be on your game and he does not look that smooth. If I have anything to tell this young kid, go to lorettas and see where you are really at. In 2015 all riders have to get through the AX series to go race SX (Hints Road to Supercross) so the field will be even more stacked. If he does race the series I will see how he does but i bet he will not be very good at this whole AX thing at first.
First off, it's 'hence', not 'hints'. Know the difference.
Second off, do you realize how many spelling mistakes are ALL over your team website?
Lastly, It wasn't too long ago you were on Vital trying to beg for money for your own team, so you not wanting to sign him really isn't too much of a loss to him I'm sure. At that age, sponsors are looking for youngsters who will promote their product in a positive image to their genre. Like Jordan pointed out he speaks very well and thats one sign that can show intelligence. Learn.
Hats off to you Jordan for stepping up.

The "youth pastor" part put me off some. I wouldn't brag about being one with their reputation.

Other than that, seem like good, hardworking people.

Socket946, definately wasnt trying to brag about being a youth pastor. If you knew what I made, you wouldn't question that. As to the reputation comment... Motocross racers often dont carry a very good reputation... doesnt stop any of us from wanting to be involved. Don't like the "reputaion", change it, has always been my philosophy. Im trying to do that from the insdie out. I actually was simply trying to point out that with my job, racing a MX series which typically requires every Sunday, wasn't an option. I was replying to all of the "How did he do at Loretta's" questions. He would like to race more MX, isnt an option for us. He has however, spent time during the summers training with current and past AMA MX Pro's specifically on MX. We recognize he needs to be well rounded.

Im not at all religious...i believe highly in George Carlin and i believe in Bill Maher and the movie Religulous...they speak exactly what i believe. But that has nothing to do with whether i back what this kid and his parents are doing cause, i do back that. and can only wish good things for them and their hard work with what they enjoy. Thanks for the props MT MX

You are totally free to believe whatever you like... as am I, I think. At least for now our country still allows that. Your beliefs don't determine my feelings about you one way or another. P.S. I'm not religious either. Actually don't care for religion... I do believe in and love Jesus however.

Why isn't MX an option? Isn't AX mostly in the fall/winter months?

Ken roczen turned pro at 14. It can be done. I hope for him the best. Arenacross is super hard for anyone, so again, good luck this season, hopefully I will see y'all in the pits(I'm a mechanic for a local ktm team that is running some of the series).

I met the Newby family in the pits at the Denver AX this year. Personable, polite and repsectful are a few of the traits that come to mind from this dad and his son. This sport needs more people with manners.

Good luck to you guys. Don't spend too much and keep it fun. Stay in school and don't just "maintain" grades - it's as important to excel there as on the track, do not let your education take a backseat to motocross.

Hey guys, I am Conrad Schaefer, owner of CrossFit Eaton and one of Dawson's coaches. I just wanted to answer the question "Who is this 14 year old pro?", in my own words. Dawson is a really a breed apart. I have worked with hundreds of high school aged kids. What impressed me about Dawson is not his ability on the bike, it is his determination and resilience. Dawson is passionate about racing and is relentless in his pursuit to improve on and off the track. Dawson is a great ambassador for your sport and for our gym. He is modest, articulate and dedicated. He is and will be a great rider, not because he is inherently good at motocross, but because he will put in the work. Lots of work. That is what sets him apart. That is why Dawson inspires me and others in our gym.

Kind Regards,
Conrad Schaefer

Dawson raced the entire West AX Series last year... yes as a 14 year old. Being the only 14 year old.. the youngest pro rider, and going up against the best AX racers in the world brought many fears and challenges. We / He did not go into the season looking to take the world by storm, he went in looking to learn and progress. His goal - a night show by the end of the season... he learned a lot and met his goals. Most teams and riders were very supportive (Ironically the most successful ones), but some definitely were not.

I truly appreciate all of the comments and support from those of you who actually know Dawson, have had contact with us, or actually have something constructive to say. Your support means the world to our family! In today's digital information age my son will eventually see this thread, and when he does, I would like him to see that there are still some people in the world that believe dreams can true. I would like him to see that when he is willing to put in the hard work, and do literally whatever it takes, people will rally behind him and not just look for ways to trip him up. We have plenty of examples of those content to sit back and let the world come to them. I believe we need more people willing to go after what they want. That's what I've tried to instill in my kids... "You want it, go and get it, no one is going to hand it to you!" I guess in large part my son being a "dreamer" is my fault... so criticize me, not him.

I hate drama... I hate these dramatic threads... Wanna know more about Dawson, check out his site
http://www.hookit.com/members/dnewby316/
or Google him.
Truly, thank you guys who have given Dawson your faithful support, and please come find us at the Track Party or in the Pits during the AX Series. We'll be in Sacramento for the start of the West Side... and at every race after.

I'm out...
