Buying used bikes suck. Some people are constantly buying and selling. From my experience, I buy new and run them until I just cant take it anymore. Currently riding a 2008 RMZ 250. Bought new. 2 rebuilds. But at least I know what is wrong and not. I am old so I dont ride like I use too.

Back in my more serious MX days, I bought a 1987 CR 125 used bike for $1500 out near Fontana or even further out (can't remember). The bike looked clean and fresh and even started and ran up and down the street strong. It was probably Summer 1987 so the bike was less than a year old. My dad and I bought it, loaded it, drove to the nearest open lot with dirt bike trails (They we plentiful back then). 10 or 15 minutes it had siezed and I was pushing it back to the truck.

We did a complete rebuild and the bike ran good till 1989. I had kids and work and it sat on the stand for the next 5 yrs. Sold it for $800 and bought a brand new 1994 KX250. After that, I have never bought a used bike. Even for my 2 sons and daughter. We just buy new and run them till they are done.

If the dealer doesnt fix it you can probably get that frame for a few hundred bucks off ebay.

87 CR125's were notorious for seizing. In '88,they went to smaller ports , increasing the bridged areas between the ports.

That also made a fast bike in '87, a turd for '88.

Take it to a good body shop and get it welded and ride it. Get an estimate first if you want and ask dealer to pay for some or all of the repair bill. A good fabricator/welder can fix that in an hour or two. Unplug all the electrical shit first so a spike of electricity does not ruin anything.

yep, some of the 7000 series aluminum Honda uses needs to be either heat treated or annealed after welding. Can't remember which though a good search should give you the answer.

I wouldnt worry about it. Its the undercaraige and there really isnt any structural integrity there other then to brace the engine. Anybody remember the Amp Research bike with no frame under the engine?

That being said, you bought used and you should have noticed that, shame on you.

Any decent welder should be able to TIG that up in 10 minutes, it's not great but it's not a disaster either.

Did that happen to come from Craigs in Dewsbury? I can't imagine there are too many around with that graphics kit. I've always found them to be pretty decent if it is.

OT but how is Doncaster MP? I went to Fatcats for the first time the other week which was a pretty good time, if I hadn't of blown 2nd gear out of my case I'd be trying to head out every week (another dodgy 2nd hand purchase). Gotta love the sand tracks for the crap weather.

I have a 2011 crf450 and it has pretty much the exact same thing, i realised it probably this time last year and didn't worry about it and check it every time i clean the bike and it hasn't changed. I'd take it to the shop and see what they can do but if they can't do anything i probably wouldn't be to stressed out about it.

If that motor mount is not bend or affected in anyway, you simply need to find a good aluminum welder to TIG a bead to prevent that crack from getting worse. There are good welders out there that can't weld aluminum, so try and find "the guy" in your area. It can be fixed as is and more than likely not need the motor taken out for the repair.

It would be nice if the dealer would help on the cost of the repair or replacement used frame. Get your ducks in a row and plead your case.

If you were close, I say bring the beer and 20 bucks and we'll knock it out.

Top result, they didn't strike me as the type who would be intentionally shady. I haven't had too good a look over your bike but it certainly caught my attention when I went in, it does look in pretty top condition at least externally, apart from the frame it turns out!

Good luck with it and I'm sure I'll see it out on a track at some point.

You should be good to go after its welded. I cracked one in the same place once, got it welded and raced the shit out of it for another year.

Good luck!

You can ask your dealership but you bought it probably "as is" so don't go in expecting a result. Probably waste time and they probably missed it too before putting it out for sale honestly. If I was in your shoes, I would have a welder fill the section in with an aluminum bead. Typically welding something makes it stronger so I would not worry after having a welder put a fix on it. If your worried about cosmetics, then get a frame online.

Have it welded by someone that is familiar with aluminum frames. It won't need any special heat treating. It will age harden in a few days.

I had similar happen on an '08 KXF250. We have a very experienced coded welder near us (Gloucestershire...not much use to you up north!) who is very good at this type of thing. He did a great job and the frame was fine for another season & I then sold it on.
He's also repaired Ti exhausts with perfect welds, wouldn't believe it was done by hand.

Get someone good and it should last for a long time.
