Never was a fan of the predictable movie (underdog saves the day and gets the girl....would rather see him get killed when ya least expect it). If you like the strange ones Eraserhead is pretty darn good at it (watched it last night). Donny Darko is ok, but definitely not as strange as Eraserhead.

Not really well known, but an old Tim Robbins movie "Jacobs Ladder" ( 1990 ) was a strange one and freaked me out at the time.

One time after flying into Denmark from the states (and being up about a day and a half) I was hanging out at my brothers place and watched the weirdest movie I have ever seen and was probably permanently scarred from.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crash_(1996_film)

Crash is a 1996 Canadian-British psychological thriller film written and directed by David Cronenberg based on J. G. Ballard's 1973 novel of the same name. It tells the story of a group of people who take sexual pleasure from car accidents, a notable form of paraphilia. The film stars James Spader, Deborah Kara Unger, Elias Koteas, Holly Hunter, and Rosanna Arquette.

This one is kind of a trip. I think it's still on Netflix.

Early David Lynch. I saw it long long ago. Many of his later movies had that same creepy aura. Even Dune. Blue Velvet is a good one if you like Lynch.

Other offbeat movies I like:
Tremors and Tremors II

Big Money Rustlas

Agree, A Clockwork Orange was banned in some countries
Films of Stanley Kubrick in general are strange, there are many conspiracy theories regarding his movies

Nevertheless one of my favorite film directors

Ha, I thought I was the only one in the world who's seen The Quiet Earth. This one rates pretty high on the weird scale.

One of my favourite movies ever. I wouldn't say it is particularly weird though. "Brazil" comes to mind, but if you're looking something more modern watch "Only God Forgives." It's a bit different for sure.

The Passion of Darkly Moon. Weirdest movie I have ever seen. Ashley Judd was in it. You get to see her boobies... that was cool. Weird weird movie.

Anyone have suggestions for films from Luis Bunuel? Supposedly he's the 'father' of surreal film-making, and I'd like to get a few suggestions of which of his films would be a good watch.

Luis Bunuel isn't really my cup of tea but '"The Phantom of Liberty" is Ok

In general I'm not really a fan of French-Italian-Spanish aka southern European cinema,
it's a special kind of drama (that I don't like or understand) hard to follow by lack of logic

recent Spanish surrealist film "La piel que habito"

same genre Julia Leigh's 'Sleeping Beauty'

A Clockwork Orange and 2001 are the only two Kubrick films I've seen (I think) and they're two of my favorites of all time. Very weird and very good.

Equilibrium is one of Christian Bale's earlier movies, it's pretty good but might resemble too many science-fiction books you've read (i.e. 1984, Fahrenheit 451) which then makes it predictable. Maybe.

Cloud Atlas is a more "mainstream" movie that came out last winter, it's pretty good considering the number of A-listers in it. I enjoyed it, anyway.

That was hilarious. I wonder if Paul was in on it and just acting?
