Background:
Im prolly what would considered part of the core fan base of the AMA pro motocross series and if im not then who is.
Im 50 + make a decent living, I have three MX bikes in the garage. I ride and race on a regular basis. I read MX blogs and participate every day. I read MX mags. I buy parts, gear, MX bling..... pretty much all of it.
I started riding in the 60s I saw my first MX race at Saddleback in 69 or 70 with Bengt Aberg the winner.
Both my parents rode dirt bikes and my dad and I raced. This was my families "thing" everyone vacation holiday involved dirt bikes until college.
On the TV coverage I saw DC mentioning the addition of FMF as a sponsor and that will give some legitamacy to core fan. I had to laugh at that one. That doesnt do it for me.

1) I want outdoor Motocross on outdoor motocross tracks
I have had no interest in going to a National race at Elsinore and in late and in August is the icing on the cake.
Yes I ride Elsinore for fun but its not where a national should be held. Mr Peters did what he could but its still a lake bed.

2) I want to go anywhere along the track. Having viewing areas and grandstand are for the big rollers sponsor types or non MX people to see the race like how they do when they go to NASCAR. Screw that
I remember going to the 1974 US GP as a kid and walking almost the entire fence line watching the race what a memory.
Ive seen multiple nationals at Carlsbad, Saddleback, and up to recently Glen Helen.

3) If I want grand stands or viewing areas ill go to SX which I do but thats different oh BTW I was at the first ever supercoss lol

4) Im pissed the privateers get screwed

5) The track owners shouldnt loose money
When it does it impacts a potential riding spot for me also.

Maybe im old and out of touch. Maybe its only about money and potenial TV money
They know the core fan will most likely still go no matter what a perfect made for TV cluster duck it is.

But not me let me know when its back or ill just ignore it as I have for the last three years.

X2. My MX history is similar to yours. I went to Elsinore last year and this year. I will not be going next year. The only reason I went this year is because I wanted to see a national and this is the closest one. The track sucks and trying to view the races sucks. This track and MMS is not my idea of what MX is about.

There is a drug ring on VitalMX.

I would prefer nice red clay/sand mixture, never over 75 degrees, a press box, located in the center of Dallas, with lush green hills and 100 year old oak trees. Add in nice shitters, padded grandstands and beautiful women everywhere.

Also need 4hrs. live TV on the same channel, preferably on the one when I wake up. Also, can someone preset my DVR for me in case I over sleep? Make sure there aren't any commercials, too. And Saturday, really??!! Push NASCAR to Saturday and give me my moto at noon on Sunday. NASCAR is just a bunch of red necks and it takes no skill to drive.

As far as the riders, they all deserve at least 6 figures. With the TV ratings and the flood of sponsors that should be a no brainer.

You forgot one important thing... Being able to bring a cooler with a few beers into the track.

BTW, there is NASCAR fans that may not have liked what you said about them being no-skilled rednecks. lol

In my opinion They being MX sports and any concerns working with MX sports that stand to profit are trying to develop a version of a traveling supercross track for the outdoors. Just think if they can get you the fan and rider to buy into a new style of national track one that can be built anywhere all in the name of this will help grow the sport while eliminating true national tracks that wont agree with their financial structures they now have all the control and power over what you get and where you get it. Something here stinks and I'm getting tired of hearing this is what it takes to grow the sport, ya right ! change everything about it.

You line the 40 best riders in the world up on a starting gate...I'm watching...I don't care it they are racing around two barrels in a parking lot, at Glen Helen, or in Anaheim stadium...dirt bikes, dirt, start gate, checkered flag...that's moto if you ask me...and I'll watch it on TV, read about it online, and in magazines, talk about it on Vital...and attend when the races are close to me.

All this whining about the tracks and lack of trees (really?) and hills and "good dirt" (really?) is just plain petty in my opinion.

Lets try and maintain some perspective here....the world isn't ending...motocross isn't ending...they just held a national on lake bed. Deep Breaths, folk....deep breaths.

How about rubber band starts? Heck, that's too hi tech, hand on helmet is good enough.
And bikes that you had to kick forever to get running.
And dust. I really miss the dust.
And the whoop de doos too, who needs a fricking tractor.
And the kids. Whoever thought kids under 16 should be out there, should be shot.
Add water cooling to that list also, along with any bumpstick giving more than 6 inches of travel.
And this full face helmet crap, what's with that?
Same with gloves. If you can't buy them at Ace Hardware you don't need 'em.
And I agree with the tracks. Unadilla, Red Bud and Glen Helen are the only places for a National.
And the privateers, effin' right. Years ago they made a ton of money just showing up, that stuff has got to change.
Maybe tripple the gate for the spectators, giving 2/3 of said gate to anyone that signs up....yeah. thats a good one that
needs to be addressed.
And if it rains and just a few show, and the landowner can't be paid by the promoter, just give Spode a call, I'm sure he'll make it all good.

Man, you are so out of touch, you must be posting from Mars or something.

I'm sorry but two of your points you don't have much reference for. How are the privateers getting screwed more now than they ever have in the history of this sport? Was the payout better in the 70s, 80s, or 90s under the AMA? Are they treated somehow more unfairly now?

And I don't have access to the books of most tracks, so I'm doubting you do either. How could you possibly know they are losing money by holding a national?

I'll admit I wasn't even alive to watch Carlsbad or Saddleback, so I don't have a point of reference from being there. But watch old videos they sure do look like a blue-groove, sun-baked shit holes like the rest of the area. No matter how much grass and irrigation you guys bring in most of Cali is a freaking desert, plain and simple. There's only so much one can polish a turd. Even the beloved Glen Helen is a place without shade and gets completely baked.

So I for one am not an alienated MX fan. While Utah and Elsinore aren't amazing, neither was Freestone, Steel City, Kenworthy, and many other places. Oh and I love how much guys a bitching about the last 2 rounds being outdoor SX, but I haven't seen a single person say they disliked Troy for all those years.

Apparently the guy wasn't around when Youthstream tried to buy the series.
He didn't hear the legions of guys that complained (and now hide like scared cats) that said the US series was crap.

As far as standing right next to the fence, see your local insurance agent about the reasons for that.
Try and get insurance for a vette with a 454 and 4 on the floor, see what happens.

I went to Troy many times and it was difficult to view more than one section. I was actually able to watch from the tower too and it still wasn't easy. I only liked Troy because it was a (close) race for me being 7 hours away. The widowmaker was really one of the only cool features. It was big.
I like the OP's post. He's a real fan and rider, and telling it how he sees it, not an industry guy or an occasional fan when a race is nearby. Dont bash on him for speaking his mind.
I have never sat in the grandstands at a national yet and have been going for 20 years now and like to walk around too, but the grandstands are usually full at every event I go to. Many people like to just plant down and stay in one spot, so those wont be going anywhere.
I'm sure DC is listening and reading many of these posts. He wants a bad ass series too and is trying different things to make it better.
He even took one of his own races off the sched this year to try Miller. Yeah he and his crew want to make money, that's the point of his business, right? But he could've made more if they ran Steel City.
The MavTV thing will be good you guys. Lucas owns it and it WILL be the new motorsports channel in the future. To me, that was evident at Red Bud.

the point is, what tracks are you riding on during the week down in southern california? if ALL the tracks down there are severely different than Elsinore, then i sincerely apologize to anyone that took offense to my post. i've ridden a lot of southern california tracks and Elsinore is no different than any of them. you might have a nugget of old-school here and there..

the tracks around here are similar in a lot of ways to MMP and Elsinore. man made. that's what we race on every other weekend, that is motocross. good irrigation, well maintained, often groomed, all these things are "motocross" in this day and age.

the days of the hillsides with natural bumps everywhere and non-mowed grass everywhere with wood stake fences are gone. while that WAS motocross at the "grass roots", it is no longer the case. the thing is, everyone is bitching about the MMP and Elsinore tracks, that's 2 out of 12 races this year. i would hardly say that Motocross is going downhill.

DC is without a doubt the most "core" fan of motocross you could ever meet. All of this bitching and moaning is really getting old. Is there some kind of award for being the biggest "core" complainer I don't know about?

I love the sport. Spent thousands each year on bikes, gear, tickets, merchandise. Love love love it.

With that said, And you can call it bitching if you want, these are peoples opinions. Actually I can call you bitching about my bitch double bitching. Stamp it.

The lake bed tracks are completely gay. You can not deny that. And if you do you are part of the gayness. If these are our only options then I get it. Obviously we'd rather have it then not have it. Kinda like the musical channels we have to play in order to watch it. Better than not having it at all. I actually do appreciate the efforts many people put forth to bring us our beloved sport.

But professional outdoor motocross on a lake bed, where the dirt is more like mash potatoes & bad holiday fudge than anything else sux sux sux.

Get the damn thing back to GH for Pete's sake. The place is a hell hole and you can wreck you ankles scaling the cliffs everywhere in order to watch it. But that is a real outdoor track. With real dirt.
Ok back to work.

Elsinore is a shithole bro... it is in no way comparable to a Cahuilla, Comp edge, GH, or even Pala.

This is our NATIONAL championship series...the various landscapes, and the quality of the dirt of our nation our very diverse...so it only makes sense that the national tracks on our national series are representative of the various landscapes and soils from across the country.

Not every national track can, or should, have the same soil consistency...because not every area of our country has the same type of soil.

Not every national track can, or should, be surrounded by pine trees (or any trees)...because not every area of our country has trees.

Not every national track can, or should, be built on the side of a frikkin mountain...because not every area of our country has mountains.

Our national tracks should be as diverse as our landscapes....and that SHOULD be part of the appeal, rather than a negative thing.

I like the fact that riders have to race on dirt they don't like or feel comfortable on. They are professionals, the best in the world, they should adapt.

I like the fact that not all riders love every track...they are professionals, the best in the world, they should adapt.

As long as a track produces great racing...I don't care if its in a blue grooved, squared edged dry lake bed and a complete dust bowl...or if its Red Bud. And if it creates good racing...I don't care if the riders love it or hate it.

Lets not be a bunch of women complaining about the choice of men on the bachelor....it's motocross. Goodness.

This sheep doesn't give a ratsass. It most likely won't be at Elsinore forever and the racing won't be better at GH. Keep in mind I'm ok to see it there again. My TV can only discern racing, not elevation.

And when it comes back to TX in 20 years I'll be there, at whatever track they line 'em up.

When you can't voice an opinion (concern) without it being dismissed as bitching or having grown adults in the industry call you an "f-tard" it may be time to start wondering how you can actually make anyone listen to your concerns about the direction the sport is clearly headed in. Enough people keeping that wallet closed will do the trick. Flame on yes men. Flame on.

This is what I have done for three years.

I would really like to go to a national in So Cal where I live. The current state has me in a bind. Yes I want to go but no I wont because of the venue and the way the fan is corraled. I would rather flip a channel and then go to live stream than be pissed off that I wasted cash I could have used to actually ride and or race. It does not make sense to me any more.

I dont care about the put down from bro in West Virginia who has never been to So Cal and hasnt been on the multitude of tracks available here and has no idea what im talking about.
