All you have to do is read the rider's Twitter accounts to see how upset they are about the payouts at these Lucas Oil AMA Nationals, and, we shouldn't blame them, there does indeed NEED to be a SIGNIFICANT fix to these antiquated, "1986 level" compensatory offerings and, I have somewhat of a PLAN. Obviously, it won't please everyone, probably piss off a few, but this takes the burden off MX SPORTS ( THE " AMA"), the privateer racers, the teams AND, puts the burden squarely on OUR shoulders - the spectators.
Here's how it works, most of the races I attended this year were about $40 to get in - for the day, which, In my mind, is an incredible bargain for 8-10 hours of moto-action, party and digging your heroes, chilling with your buds.....
Anyway, I'd like to see it rai$ed by five (5) dollars at EVERY event, with ALL the increased proceeds/ revenue ( call it a TAX if you will) going DIRECTLY to the RIDERS PURSE. WITH SPECIAL consideration going to increase the money in the 20-40 placed positions. Figuring roughly at an estimated 20,000 fans " chipping" in an extra $5 per head - that would increase the purse by $100 grand ( 60 K to the 450s / 40 K to the 250's) at EACH ROUND.
Effectively RAISING the purse, over the course of the season, by 1.3 $ MILLION !
Many of you will state " THE FANS ARE ALREADY STRAPPED, they will never pay another $5 !" To which I say hogwash.
It's a negligible amount - (burger or beer) and any fans that would NOT go because of a minor increase would be negligible.
Anyway, that's my idea, hate it or love it, I'm desperate to find a solution to assist my fellow motocross racers, especially the young privateers. Cheers to all.

Personally, I would love to see attendance numbers and cull out the bottom and bring in better drawing locations. Cut bait with poor performers and find locations that spend more with their "entertainment" dollars. I know you need to find new blood and introduce new area's or rotate the schedule...all that business stuff, etc. but you need to support these riders with better purse money top down.
I think the prices are fair now so don't chase off the "meh" or curious supporters with higher cost. I don't wanna pay any more money for a ticket knowing it's probably not going to this noble effort.

If YOU are a current professional motocross racer here in the USA AND you see some merit in this plan,
I encourage you to forward it on - with enthusiasm. WITHOUT the knowledge, support and pressure by the
riders and we, THE spectators, NOBODY is going to voluntarily give you a raise. You HAVE to ask for it.
This is simply AN answer, perhaps not the best answer for everyone, but it never is.

On the other hand, Great idea i think it would be awesome... and im totally up for it.
Paying 10.50$ for a damn beer, that doesn't even get me buzzed after one..... I'd much rather hand half that amount to a rider.
Now......is there a way to actually keep track of actual " Ticket sales ".....so that extra $5.00 makes it to the privateer purse?
FWIW......I really , really hope that DC chimes in on this. I think it's an awesome idea!

Here's where I find a problem. From a business standpoint, if they could raise the price and know people would still come, why would they essentially give it away without taking anything of the top first? Many fans would like to give to privateers, like me, and I would have gladly contributed $20 to privateers having attended Southwick and Unadilla this year with my wife. There would be some people who wouldn't like it though. And realistically, I think if they could have or wanted to up the payout they would have by now. They wouldn't need vital members for such an idea.
I've been thinking about some kind of not for profit organization that collects donations from willing fans and businesses. That way, no one makes any extra money off the top, and we can be sure 100% minus processing fees goes directly to the riders. That is what I've been thinking about the past few days. Not sure if it would work either, but just an idea I had about this issue.
I feel that 40th place should at least get their entry fee back.
what has to happen here is each promoter will technically be paying a higher fee to host the mxsports race. Mxsports needs to raise the payout 20th-40th by the exact same amount. It would be nice to mix in a rainout clause for the series where all promoters have to contribute to the cause in an instance where there is a rainout or some other event that kills their attendance that is out of their control. kinda ala nfl football teams or hockey. the big market tracks help out the smaller venues.
for all we know maybe this is where DC is going..hence newer venues, never know.
Not to take away from the shit pay discussed above.
