prime example of this matterly basin MXDN- stefan everts passes james stewart round the outside in a corner, stood up- proceeds to pull a big gap with ease. Bubba scrubbing everything hanging off the bike looking super fast, stefan stood up everywhere looking like he's tootling round on a trials bike. Scrubbing is over rated in my opinion, carrying good momentum in the corners wins races not posing on jumps
I think skipping the 125's was a bad move for Mike. He wasn't ready to get thrown in with the wolves on a 250, and that probably hurt his confidence, and maybe some technique. He seems like a great guy, and hard working, maybe if he was away from his dad, and had a good riding coach he would have been a champion.

Seems like he has a comfort zone that he doesn't like to get out of. And not shear speed, more of a left handed lay up type thing. Some guys just bite the bullet and learn how to do it left handed and others keep trying to find a way to continue to do it the comfortable way.
Mike is doing great, but it just seems like he has untapped potential even after all this time.
Outdoors the scrubs are not as important on all the natural terrain and floater jumps. Most tracks have one or two obstacles where it can make up a fraction of a second in a 2 minute lap. Great for the guys who are already just a bit faster and need that edge to make or setup a pass. (Mike could probably use that edge)
In Supercross, the scrub is way more important. When RV, Stewart etc puts a mean scrub on someone they can pass in a single jump or rythm section. It would help Mike a lot more in Supercross.
I learned to whip and scrub a little bit as soon as I got my first 125 (only a year ago). Those skills translated over to the bigger bikes, but they're more easily learned on the little bike.
Awesome post...
Pit Row
Actually Cornwall made me promise not to whip him.
"EVERYONE under 20 scrubs every single jump necessary or not at most local tracks."
It should read "EVERYONE under 20 ATTEMPTS to scrub every single jump..."
I can't help but laugh at every D class rider at the track that is doing a butt scrub over every bump on the track...LOL...Everyone at the local track tries to scrub...but very few can ACTUALLY scrub.
only thing i scrub is my balls after a night at the Bunny Ranch. i usually get the fat one, but sometimes i settle for the pasty redhead with the lazy eye from the premature pop (i like a good challenge)
There is more than one way to go fast over a jump...clearly #800 has figured out one of those ways, otherwise we wouldn't be posting pictures of it let alone debating about whether someone who JUST podiumed last weekend is fast or not. Again...there are alternatives to dragging your footpegs and #800 gains my respect by being on of the few who doesn't need style points to go fast and I mean FAST!
EDIT: Actually I don't want this to turn into a pissing match, so I applaud you for offering your own picture as a joke. Taking one's self too seriously is one of the worst traits a human can have.
