I generally search Wisconsin and northern Illinois and it's rampant. I'm talking people advertising a bike as a 99 model and you see the pic and it's a 91. Is it the same everywhere else ?

Hey, he says it "needs work" right? Laughing

I see this a lot and most times I dont think its misrepresentation as much as pure ignorance. The guy in that link probably really does think its an '02 and has no idea its nearly 20 years older.

That's a '93 or '94.

In New Zealand, we have a similar online auction site called trademe. It is probably not as common, but I do see bikes listed with the wrong year quite often. It does annoy me, but like Kartwheel84c said, I think it is more due to ignorance than anything else.

I thought you were going to mention the '95 RM125 in the GB craigslist that is an '89. I let him know, he said he would look into it...

craigslist is a great place to get a sad look at human nature. when people think they can get away with it, and stand to benefit from it, they will lie their asses off. If you call them on their 91 YZ advertised as a 99, they will double down on the lies and say "thats what the previous owner told me it was"

I look at craigslist all the time, I see obviously stolen shit on a daily basis, I see scam ads designed to rip people off, I see boneheads lying through their teeth in order to fool some other bonehead into buying their junk bikes. I have to remind myself on a daily basis that it only takes a few scumbags to muddy the waters

I just assume those types of ads are for stolen bikes and the person listing it actually has no clue what it is they are trying to get rid of....

The nearby wheelie guys stole my G/Fs little bros 80 , at least he got it back . You would not believe what they went through to get in the upstairs window of the garage . O ya they saw he was selling it on craigslist and just called to get the address so they knew where to get one . I would always meet somebody in a nearby parking lot if i was selling on craigslist.

Just be glad he's not selling it as one of Jims Stuards Factory Suzuki practice bikes. It does have #7's on it after all.

i cannot stomach when people do that. they dont know the year (or sometimes do) but make it any year they want... and of course they always make sure they put a year on it thats newer then what it really is. its rare to see it the other way around. i also see a lot of people advertising quads and bikes as "special editions" when they are not

My friend bought an '00 YZ250, being told it was a '02 model. That wasn't his main problem though, as we found out why his oil would go milky after almost every ride. Turns out there was a hole in the top of the crankcase; Not sure how it wasn't spotted during a top end rebuild.

I have seen this as a problem for the 15 or so years I have been involved with dirt bikes. It happened previously with newspaper adverts and any type of media that had dirt bikes listed for sale. Back then though, you didn't get to look at photos in the ad, it was sprung on you when you showed up to check the bike out in person!!

Bought a KLX110 last month off Craigslist, it was advertised as a 08 and when I looked at it it clearly stated 03 pointed it out to the guy and he acted stupid about it of course so I got the bike for 450 less. advertised for 1350 got it for 900 worth 1100
Very clean piece runs great and an auto is perfect for my 12 year old Daughter.

BTW Colorado springs, Colorado
