I'll probably pass on it then. I cornhole the clutch on my CR.

Do you fan the clutch on your CR500? I don't fan the clutch on my CRF450 and I've never had it slip with Rotella. I do fan the clutch on my CR and RM 250's, and that's when I experienced clutch slippage with Rotella. Like I said before, that disappeared when I switched to Motorex gearbox oil. I still run rotella in the 450.
I slip the clutch on my 500s. I hammer the piss out of the clutch on my 144.

I guess I need to man up, and put rotella back in my 250T's then. It must have been all in my head.

You won't hurt the clutch pack as long as you take it easy if it starts slipping. If it starts to slip under heavy clutch use, just change over to a gearbox specific oil. That worked for me.

I did the math and it was cheaper to use Motul 300V because everyone says to change the rottella every ride or 2 hours. I can go 12-15 hours depending on the weather. Also I don't like the idea of pulling drain plugs all that much I know a few guys that have ha to fix there drain plug threads from all those oil changes.
I change about every 6-7hrs with no problems, still on the original clutch on my '08 CRF 450.

Rotella T takes more heat than any other oil.
Its the only oil we found to hold up to slipper clutches on KTM Supermoto bikes.

I'm on the original clutch on my 08 CRF450 too. Rotella is all I've used in it's tranny, and I used it in every 450 I've had since 03 w/ no problem, but for some reason my 2-stroke clutches slip on the stuff. Two different 250T's and they both slipped under hard clutch use, which were resolved by a switch to a gearbox specific oil.

There's no doubt that a clutch gets more abuse on a 2-stroke and my experience with Rotella has only been with 4-strokes. I've always been a firm believer in using what you know works for you, weather that be motor oil, premix or tires. My last full time 2-stroke in '04 got Golden Spectro in the gearbox and gas with no problems so I'd probably run that again if went back since it always worked for me.

I find that Delo 400 works better in my smokers than Rotella. Rotella makes my YZ clutch squeal like a pig.

Rotella is good shit though. I still use the synthetic blend in my boat, street bike and old YZF (anything requiring crank lubrication).

Rotella in my last six 4-strokes, none blew up. Lack of proper maintenance is what kills them.

Try again...

No! No-no-no-no-no-no! Well, maybe. Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that's even remotely true!

Oh, and people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Lumpy. 14% of people know that. You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is 'never try'.

I had Pro Kawi mechanic tell me 4 years ago to use Rotella. He said we advertise for the sponsors, but we use what we want.

Are these 2 the same?
My Walmart only stocks the "Heavy Duty Diesel Engine oil". Is that one safe for 2014 YZ250F?

Blue T6 is what I run. Zinc, like lead, is GREAT for 4 strokes.

Update. I think i may have gotten a bad jug of rotella back when i was experiencing some clutch slippage in my cr and rm. I recently bought a different gallon jug and its been working well in both my cr and rm.

question for you guys... especially anyone who does heavy offroad...

doing about 1200-1500 miles in the Baja next month and going to be 700 miles or so between oil changes.

what do you guys recommend? i use Rotella T in my 300 now and every bike i've ever owned. only thing is i do oil changes every 6 hours or so. on this trip i'm going to be closer to 24-30 hours between oil changes. is this stuff going to be ok or do i need to look elsewhere?

thanks!

I swear by Rotella oil. I was running my bike in deep sand dunes, first time I ever rode in dunes. Ended up overheating my bike and it basically boiled off all my coolant. I was running WFO in deep sand with no coolant for at least a couple minutes before I realized something was wrong and smelled something burning. The engine got so hot, it melted the plastic temp sensor (FI bike) off the cylinder.

I got home and I drained the oil, it flowed like mud and was thick and black. I tore into the motor thinking it would be roached. Everything smelled like burnt oil, but everything was fine. Cylinder, piston, head, cams, cam journals all were fine. I took off the clutch side cover to check the clutch and there was a half inch of sludge at the bottom. The only damage was the head warped from the heat. I got the head decked, cleaned everything up, put new rings in, new temp sensor, and new gaskets and the bike ran fine. I’ve put another 60 hours on the motor since.

Now, I have no idea how long I was running without coolant, but I know the motor got really hot and there was nothing in it except Rotella oil. Since then, it’s the only oil I use now.

So - does anyone know if the "Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil" (as in pic 4 posts up) 15W-40 can be used in a YZ250F?

Or is that strictly for diesel engines?

Thanks.

Yes I used that same exact oil in a 2002 CRF 250r and now my 2012 Ktm 250sxf. Both had a Rekluse clutch and was reccomended by Rekluse. I wouldn't see why it would be any different in your Yzf Rekluse or not.

I have found the best prices on Rotella to be at Tractor Supply and they put it on sale from time to time.

Ive ran the 15w40 synthetic rotella in every bike I've had. Including an 06 kx250f and 09 kx450f.

Ive had one of my ktm 250f's get hot and engine lock up, let it cool for an hour or two, then went on to race it that night and won my race. never even rebuilt the engine after that.

+100000000 on the rotella heavy duty 15/45 oil, been using it for years in everything that needs engine oil. 125s, 250fs, 450fs, my truck, my lawnmower, ect. My backyard mechanic friend says its the best oil available even better than synthetic oils. idk about the synthetic part tho, but rottela does make a synthetic oil also.
3/13/2014 2:51am
I use the totella 15/40 with 1oz of the pure synthetic lucas treatment. The T6 is about $28 a gal in my area.never tried it but sounds good. I was never a believer in the motorex stuff .

I see you guys say you put it in your personal vehicles?? If its a newer vehicle you are going to mess your cat's up. They took zinc out of auto oils because zinc cannot be introduced into the new style cat's. just a heads up
