It's not just Maeda, look how many views J Law threads get.

He has been out of the sport for years and there was a new thread about him pretty much every week since he left.

I think a lot of people underestimate Jason's popularity.
I don't think he is necessarily "popular." Perhaps interesting is a better word?

As much as I admire his riding ability, I think J-Law is both a douche bag and an idiot. That said, I cannot stop myself from browsing every thread about him.

He might have been an idiot at times off the bike, but the kid is a genius on the bike.

Hope he has fun and builds momentum.. If he races.
Hanny looks like shite.. Maybe he was sick

So JLaw chooses to come back and show everybody he is serious by mugging it up with the most notorious, DGAF, blow-off-every-opportunity party boy in the sport. Ugh.

Always lots of jlaw threads. The kid had it made, and totally screwed himself. He could have had the best support and been on the best bikes, and made tons of money. He's an idiot. He certainly does have a lot of talent. I've watched him race since 2003 at many of the tracks we raced. He was very fast. But he is as stupid as he is fast. All the opportunity for him to make big dollars, with teams, and sponsors, and product endorsements are gone. The sponsorship is cutting back. He had the opportunity to get while the getting was good. I don't care about him one way or another. If he becomes an MX champion, or shines shoes at the airport. It's his life not mine. It would be fun to watch him run in this MX season, but he's got a long tough road ahead of him, if he wants to succeed. The young guys are faster, and in better shape than ever, and he's got to bring a lot to the game to run against them. The competition has a huge advantage, because they have been in the game. He hasn't raced against them in years. You have to remember that any one that sponsors him is taking a pretty big risk, in more ways than one. I hope he comes back. It would be fun watching him, but I also hope he sticks it out, and doesn't give up when he gets his ass handed to him. I don't think anyone expects him to be a contender for the championship if he races this year, but if he can keep it up, he'll get better, and who knows, maybe he can do something. The only thing he can do is ride a bike, and he has always done it very well. If he finally wants to try and cash in on it, he's got very little time left. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

The above is a dose of reality. Kicking it with Hanny is a long way from being competitive in the big bike class outdoors. I would suggest this would be his very last chance to take a chew at this professionally. I too hope that he takes it seriously and gives it his very best effort. But Matthes is right when he hints at it being difficult for him to be competitive at this level again. He has a little over 12 weeks to rediscover both his speed and endurance. I hope he has already started because there aren't any ham and eggers in that class.
mx5471, are you argueing with yourself?

One sentence you say he is an idiot, then you say it's his life, not yours.

Lots of opinions on someone you don't care about one way or another.

Why judge a guy you don't care about?

Not arguing with anyone, myself included. His antics started when he was on 85's. I've witnessed some of them. The rest is history. I don't care what he does, and I do think he's an idiot. People make observations about people all the time. You have an opinion of everyone you know, or met. It's hard to make a comeback, especially if you were never there in the first place. Right now, he most likely could have had the kind of money Stewart, Villipoto, and Barcia, and some few others have. That's why I said he is stupid. It's a lot harder for him to make it now. Like I said, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Personally I don't judge people on the money they make, or could of made. You mention money a lot, money does not make the man.

Guess it really doesn't make your point if you look at all the cool shit he has done along with the stupid shit.

So since you seem to be in the know on what the pros make, just how much coin does Barcia have? Hell, how much, since you seem to know, does Jason have?

NotAnotherName guy, I don't judge people at at all, and I'm not judging him. He has a reputation in the dirt bike world, and it's not a good one. I'm simply forming an opinion, and stating it, as many others do here. If he went for it in his prime, he could have been a champion. I don't know what anyone makes, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that lots of guys are doing better than him. Maybe he's finally come to senses, and said to himself, that could of been me. I hope he races, and if he can be a contender good for him. Outsider, almost every racer mentioned on this board is referred to by his initials or his nickname. I think jlaw is here to stay.

Jlaw is a sponsors dream. Massive love from fans. Massive hate from others. He is talked about more than current riders with factory bikes like Broc Tickle and Josh Hill. Wish the best for Jason financially. Some how, some way, in this crazy world he can sell more product for a sponsor than 90% of the current field. America. Gotta love it.

I understand Don wants to push traffic to his website (and what better way than jlaw?), but this is all very premature. When he gets a ride, pays his entry, and lines up at Hangtown I'll buy in. What I take from the Utopia shoot is he may have sorted his life out which is good news whether he races or not.

35smom, is he no longer with Sepkovic? The ARMA logos plastered all over him make me think otherwise.
I agree that it is premature to assume he will be lining up, but taking what he said for face value, why not ask people what they think? And yes - Jason Lawrence is a traffic monster. We are lucky that he favors TransWorld and calls on us to cover his story. Also, Scott Sepkovic and Jason are still working together - it was he who called me on Jason's behalf.

Interestingly enough, I've had a half dozen companies contact me about how they could become involved in Jason's race effort. I think that many assume that even if he doesn't have great results, he will still command coverage. Unless he doesn't show up, of course...

No, it's pretty simple stuff; J for Jason and Law for Lawrence. Even a retard could understand it.

This. JLaw has something that most riders outside of the top factory guys dont have, raw talent. I respect guys like Tickle, Kiniry, Peick, Short, those guys work hard and earn everything they get, but they will never have the raw effortless talent/speed JLaw had, and has so far mostly wasted. Thats why people are so fascinated, even the biggest JLaw hater can not deny his talent, its like the MX version of reality TV. Because of that fascination, he can still draw sponsors even when he has not ridden in 2 years, and he wont have to perform to the same level a Short/Kiniry/Peick will have to to keep those sponsors because EVERY race, people will be wanting to know what he did. For the right sponsor, he is a publicity dream.

But, I just want him to enter, and finish, races with as little drama as possible. Even if he doesnt break the top 10, with his raw speed he WILL easily make the shows in the Outdoors since all you have to do is throw down one heater lap and you are in.

Yep..

Think more want to see the train wreck and circus antics happen.

Nothing more than entertainment value for myself.

Warm welcome.. well duh?.

What else are these guys going to say?

"Yeah.. I hate this m'fluckin idiot"? Think that would go over well with sponsors, fans, etc.?

It's more like.. these guys are classier than the clown they are speaking about.

It is odd how most people are cool with Feld and Monster, but think Lawerence is bad for the sport.

Don, you should be Jason's PR agent/Manager/Agent. You'd do a better job and be a hell of a better influence on the kid than Sepkovic.

If there's anything that worries me about JLaw's return and its legitimacy, its who he is still surrounding himself with. Hopefully JLaw doesnt fall into the same crowd that helped derail him the first time.

The fact that so many riders and people that know him have good things to say about him, combined w/ the fact that he was the only rider to even donate to the Magoo fund, makes it pretty clear that he is a good dude up close and personal.

He is also a fuck up no doubt, but that doesn't make me like him any less as a person.

Any like K-Roc said, dude has a sick style on a bike.
