Why can't I respect Alessi as a racer?

So, one guy still can't get over it and maybe one is still on the fence. The other 20 or so so far seem to have gotten over it. I'd say Alessi is doing better than most of the other riders right now.

I know why he did it, the whole pack leans left coming into that corner and usually the guy on the inside gets tangled into the banners and crashes and causes a huge pile up, he avoided CAUSING a disaster. it was questionable going left but the consequences of not making that move would of been far worse, no one crashed and the race was still good was it not? Ask yourself who was close to mike and Ryan that second Moto? Would it have made a difference? Maybe. We will never know. Good day guys.
Hey MTL, who do you think you are for Alessi to even give a rat's ass about your respect for him? What were you doing on Saturday while Mike was busting his ass at Unadilla? That's right, you were watching on your couch picking your wedgie and are in no place to say shit. So shut your mouth. If it was that blatant, he would have been penalized for it, and he wasn't. Let DC worry about it.

Mike put in one of his best rides of the season in that second moto. He kept Ryan in his sights almost the entire moto - it was very impressive. So did he cut the track? Maybe, but in the end it wouldn't have mattered anyways. Ryan and Mike were on a different level than everyone in the second moto. Give credit where credit is due. Don't be a douche. All the racers in our sport deserve respect just for being out there! We are a small community and need to give support to our guys out there.

I don't think anyone is asking you to respect Alessi as a racer. He got second so far in the National Motocross Series, so his results speak for themselves. Let's compare that to 2nd in the United States in:

NASCAR - Matt Kenseth
Tennis - Novak Djokovic
Golf - 2nd American is Webb Simpson (5th pl overall). Luke Donald ranks 2nd overall, with Tiger Woods 3rd.
Motocross - Mike Alessi

He's in some pretty respectful company.

Damn, no need to get butt hurt over it. I love the old argument "Well you're not a pro so your opinion doesn't matter."

Hell, I'm just glad the dude's out there! Imagine the 450s without Mike. He's the most entertaining part of the show (except for the over/under on which lap takes down JS).

Not butthurt - annoyed. A lot of people on here talk real big and bash our riders and they simply don't know what they are talking about. Reedy doesn't call you guys the computards for nothing...peace I gotta go ride. Winning an argument on this board is like winning the special olympics...at the end of the day, there really isn't a winner.

I thought you were leaving? Don't let me stop you, pro. While you're out there, you might work on keeping your elbows up - you're looking a bit sloppy in that profile picture.

I posted something positive about Alessi, and you're saying I don't know shit. So, are you suggesting that I was incorrect?

Just curious if anybody else on this forum has ever been an 18 year old "kid" that was expect to set the MX world on fire..... I'd imagine the stresses associated with that would be hard to deal with. Look at JLaw....
Not all kids do stuff like that, just look at Roczen or Herlings ... Wait, ah nevermind ...

I think Barcia did also something 'dumb' this year ...

Moto 2 first left hand turn. Tickle pushes Alessi wide going into it so Alessi goes inside the barrier and barrel, making no attempt to stay on the track and comes out ahead of Tickle. Tickle would have had the pass if Joelessi ((c) BROtocross) hadn't cheated.

Props to Chiz who went wide to but did not follow. Got back on the track and raced.
I'm sure MA is going to lose a lot of sleep over your whiny stupid comments, or what your "feelings" are. If your boyfriend was so fast he could've passed him back.

1st: Jeff Alessi didn't write that response, he doesn't spell that well or write that well. Looks like papa T wrote that or maybe the wifey.

2nd: regarding this quote from TSR "Hey MTL, who do you think you are for Alessi to even give a rat's ass about your respect for him?" if Alessi doesn't care, then why are you so upset? uhmmm....duh?

3rd: why do all of you guys respect mx racers at all? seriously? it's not like they are doing something great to change the world, or help anyone? They are good at what they do, that is all. Now if they go out and volunteer for a charity, or help some kids, etc...., then I will respect them, but not for riding a dirt bike well! Maybe we should get ort priorities straightened out. Maybe that's why the US is so screwed right now.

Why I can respect Alessi. He's gotten off the ground after injuries and still has the drive to win races. He also doesn't limit himself to sx or mx and has even gone the extra distance and raced oversees. Hanny had a mx injury and gave up on the idea of the faster speeds and the physical conditioning necessary to race mx. Alessi has never lost that drive. He's an animal.

Not that it matters, but Mike is a pretty good dude in my book. He took the time while doing a local race at Cycle Ranch here in San Antonio to chat and take a few pics with my kid. Also let him sit on his motorcycle and then gave him a MA800 t-shirt.
He made us fans that day. I was not much fan after the whole "Believe the Hype" debacle, but the guy has won me over. He works his azz off and gives it 110%. How can you not respect him as a racer? Don't think I've ever known anyone to want a c-ship more than Mike. Hope he achieves his goal.

This thread is almost as vitarded as the one I started yesterday..Mike rode the race of his life that 2nd moto. Anyone that doesn't appreciate that is not a real fan of moto! IF he had Metty's bike I bet the results would have been a little different last weekend...

Someone getting pushed wide during a start when the entire pack is going WFO and they don't adhere 100% to the track markers and don't shutoff??? Say it ain't so!!!!

Watch any of the starts from Unadilla and you will see about 1/3 of the pack drift wide in the 1st turn and go outside the yellow markers and not 1 of them shuts off.
mtl wrote:

Yeah, I know. I read your 1st post. And I'm talking about the fact that in the 3rd turn everyone is still really packed up and going WFO and not really paying attention to the track markers a whole lot.

Not for nothing but I just hung the Alessi towel up that I got from Danielle back in his rookie year. I was a fan then his immature bs pissed me off to no end. If you can't forgive him n let things go u aren't a human being. The dude has commited his life to trying to be the best. He, in my view does not have the natural talent Dungey or James has but puts his heart and fron t and pretends like he does....I REALLY wish Dungey wasn't a bumb and would race for a championship. Dude never gives 100% when racing a guy like Reed or RV....just sits back and 'collects" em...yea....it's good for his bank but sux for his fan base...reminds me of the old Reed who never stuck it to him....why I didn't used to like Reed but now do...go Alessi....move to Europe Dung...

Alot of the hate that Mike gets has to be related to his dad. People with an opinion as strong and as vocal as Tony usually get trashed. Alot of people seem to forget that MX is all he has known and has been drilled into him by his dedicated, and alot would say, over zealous dad. You have to respect his skills. I am not a big fan, but i am also not a hater.

While some people see think of the Tedesco incident, when i hear his name i think of the autograph session he did before the 09 Hangtown race at a local dealership. When the clock was up, every rider jumped up and made a dash for the door. Alessi stayed for as long as there was someone still in line wanting an autograph.

Seems like some participants here have a need to engage in character assassination of some of the riders. I can only see two reasons for this, 1. The rider is a worthless piece of crap or 2 the poster believes that by discrediting the rider the poster raises the poster's own worth.

In the case of MA, seems like he may have done a few silly things in his adolescence. None of which even remotely approach the level of worthless piece of crap. Currently, I read many more positive things than negative. To answer the question, he deserves respect for doing as well as he has this year. If that isn't enough he deserves respect for the positive things he has done for the fans and the sport.

As to those that believe tearing a person down elevates one's self, it doesn't. Simply stated the critic is the same person before and after the character assassination. Just a thought .....

As to the character assassins, you have answered your opinion about MA. How about now giving the rest of us a reason to respect your opinion..

yeah, may not have been the smoothest move, but take into consideration that the title was on the line and the pc guys lined up on both sides of him on the gate to try and prevent a good start. the kid was pissed and determined. right move? no. but in the heat of the moment, maybe a little understandable...(i said a little) i was there and saw the whole thing 1st hand, not on tv.

anyway, if you can't respect the guy as a racer, its not alessi that has the problem, it's just you not liking him. he's 2nd in points and has been consistent all season. he's been riding his ass off and beating all of the other factory guys, wtf, thats gotta be worth something, geeez. as far as the last race track cutting goes, go watch it again dude, there's no fucking way he could have cut back into the main line without cleaning out at least 6 or 7 other guys....and i saw at least 5 other guys do the exact same thing in the same turn, yet no thread about them?? and he didn't gain any positions, he dropped back in right where he went out.... tickle was questionable, but it didnt change the race one bit... get over it

Jeff, He's your brother so you support him no matter what and I understand that.

If that wasn't your brother would you be saying the same thing?

I watched it a few times and he had plenty of room to get back on the track.
If DV12 did it, it would be cause for war between the US and France in Jeff's eyes.

That said, I like Mike and hope he does well this year in SX and stays healthy to be at the front again next year outdoors. He's killing it against guys with bigger budgets and more support. I'm glad to see him still near the front despite no longer having a factory ride.
