He seems like one of the happiest guys racing professional motocross.
His podium speech put a smile on my face.
editors note:
I am complaining for the sake of complaining
Did you guys hear the cheers for Marvin and Kenny? Loud as hell and it was awesome to hear a bunch of fans backing these guys.....they deserve it!
I'd like to know where the Vital members went that were saying "Americans don't like having these guys here".........If Unadilla wasn't proof enough.....I don't know what is.
Pit Row
As for lines going outside the yellow guide markers, it's hard to put a hay bale or a barrier on a blind downhill (there were two at Unadilla) and not risk a much bigger problem. The inside barriers on the corners are there to get the riders back in the racing line when they get outside the markers on hills and off the landings of jumps.
This has been a moving target, but we don't want to go with that green mesh fencing, and Tuff Blocks don't work as well outdoors as they do indoors -- landing on one of those from up high like SX and hitting one at MX speed outdoors are two much different things....

Just observing that there was a major line being formed outside of the track, and that the markers should delineate the track, at least in my opinion. Perhaps they could have been pulled or moved in those blind downhills if that was the case?
I remember a year or two ago you put the fear of God in these guys regarding the markers, but it appears that they've forgotten.
I don't mean to be lippy, DC: I love what you do (and have done) for moto and sincerely appreciate that you come on this board to explain.
Several riders were fined for multiple excursions in other spots of the track (all of that money goes to the Asterisk Mobile Medics). The rain and the deep ruts had guys going everywhere on Saturday, but no one really "cut" the track, they just got outside the margins.
We are always chasing it, just as other sports chase violators of rules, but it's hard to monitor a 1.25-mile long track on such a diverse, dynamic terrain, with 40 guys at a time taking on an incredible rough track. We try to barricade the insides of the corners with the fellow foam pieces and haybales, but the edges of straightaways and hills can obviously be a challenge.
