I don't think it gets "more fun" the faster you get. Some young kid trying his first year of racing........is probably going to have more fun than just about anyone. I take that back.....it doesn't mater how old you are....if you love it.....you love it.

After a bunch of years.....the injuries can accumulate and make it harder to ride......mentally and physically. Still a lot of fun......just hurts more.

It's always the same amount of fun, but as you get faster you start spending a lot more money, and likely getting injured more severely. So that sucks the fun out of it more.

When you decide you no longer need to hang out for trophy presentation, it is more fun.

Not giving a shit definitely helps the fun factor.

Two strokes definitely add to the fun factor, but not giving a shit about the 450 roosting you on your 125 2 stroke is a requirement for that to be fun.

THIS SHIT JUST HAPPENED> 100 percent correct. Once I dropped the ego and trying to be "cool" with the newest bike i realized i have more fun knowing there is no bike payment.

In my experience, yes it gets funner when you get faster. But the crashes hurt a lot more to. And for some people their ego gets the best of them really quick. Some guys need to understand that just because you race B class doesn't mean you are the shit.

That second paragraph pretty much sums it up, specially mentally, I know I can still do some stuff......but the repercustions creep into my mind when I am on the track......where a few years ago they did not.

This is true, everyone knows who won, you don't need to hear your named called and carry around a $7 piece of shit plastic to prove it.

I think you'll find that it's fun in the beginning because there's so much to learn and everything is new. As you get faster it becomes less fun because you start to take it too seriously and and spend WAY too much money. Once you get older and start to lose speed you'll realize that you're never going to be anything but a mid-packer and it suddenly becomes fun again.

For me personally the faster i have gotten and the more stuff i can manage to pull off on a bike makes it better for me... Riding a 2 stroke on the other hand doesn't do much for me. Its fun for a few laps then the wow factor wears off and i go back to my 250F's and 450s...Whats still so enjoyable, is after a good rain, going out in the hills, goofin off on some rut tracks, find some nasty hill climbs and laugh at eachother all day falling on some stupid log jump or something like that with some buddies.Laughing

NOPE, I'll bet you there aren't ten people at the track on any given weekend that have more fun than any kid in the 50 class.

If you aren't fast/good enough to clear the obstacles and make a track flow, then yes it does get funner when you get to that point. Ego? In amateur weekend warrior motocross? I feel sorry for those types. I also feel sorry for people that can only have fun with one particular engine configuration.

I wouldn't know. I never made it out of the C class or gone more than 3 laps without severe arm pump but I assume I would have a lot more fun winning in the A or B class and my arms not feeling like weights attached to them.

Seriously though, once you get better and faster and win it's a great feeling. Moping around at slow speed is not very fun in a racing atmosphere but back in the day when I was more into it-improving and getting faster and racing others instead of my own bike was definitely way more fun.

Great point. YES I had more fun up to the point of knowing I could clear pretty much any jump and throw a whip and all that. THAT shit is universally cool. But after that... well I did like 3 pro races. Sucked balls. My lap times were like 86th place out of 94 dudes or whatever. Had I worked my balls off and started finishing 75th out of 94.... yeah NO that wouldn't really have been more fun. lol.

Engine configuration? Give me a 125/150 or a 250F and I'm good. That's where the fun is. Love to hear the revs, makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something regardless how slow I'm actually going. New 250 2 stroke?? Maybe, maybe not. 450? I have absolutely no use for something like that.

I probably had the most fun during the first few years I raced as it was so new and exciting to me, even though I sucked. I found that practising and improving as a rider was rewarding, but my results began to frustrate me once I got more serious about it. If you had a lot of talent and were continually finishing nearer to the front of the pack, it probably would get a lot more enjoyable as you got faster. I also agree with what GrapeApe said about it being more fun when you reach the point where you can do all the obstacles and make the track flow.

Getting faster takes time, and with time anything can get a bit stale. I still enjoy racing more than anything else, but it doesn't excite me as much as it used to.

Did you say 250F? I thought you were a two stroke guy exclusively?

I think it's more of an issue where you are in life and to many factors come in play. Also what do you do with your riding. Racing, trail ride, or training at your local track? How is the social angle, you meet new friends that can boost the experience? Do we get happy in riding as much as we want? Or is it actually better to ride less, with the "ah finally" feeling? Aging means more money? Is it more fun to have a new bling bike, but be a bit fat and slow? Increased speed means you can turn it down, and still be fast, I measure speed in comparison to the rest as present riders that day, maybe being faster, and safer can bring more, than take risk and succeed?

Again, I don't think the fun part is really related to progress, I go up and down in my experience, but I think the feeling of me being "fast" has always been the major factor for making it a good or bad day experience...

Glad to know im not the only mid pack C rider who feels like his arms are about to fall off after 3 laps Wink .

While i have never even remotely sniffed the A class, some of the most fun times i have are just having a good battle on the track with someone. Even if im not going crazy fast its fun knowing your in a heated battle with someone instead of just riding around by yourself. Ive always wanted to learn to whip which sounds dumb but i cant do it and think i would have much more fun if i knew how to do one.

Buying a late model cr125 tripled the fun factor for me, it's SO slow, but it's so fun riding a bike that needs revving into oblivion or it wont move one inch, and will turn on a sixpence.

When/where did I ever say that?

Am I a fan of the displacement rules? No.

Am I a fan of the cost of racing a 250F in what used to be the 125cc class? No.

Am I a fan of the carnage that ensues when a 250F scatters and the costs to repair it? No.

Am I a fan of the fact that the powers that be sailed the 125cc class down Shit Creek without a paddle? No.

Am I a fan of revving the piss out of a 13,500 rpm 250F? You betcha'.Wink

Riding is still fun after 23 years. Racing on the other hand has hit an all time Blahs-ville!
No bike Payment is the TITS also. Ride for fun, quit when its done.

I havn't read the whole thread so not sure if this has been answered.

Moto dosn't get more fun the faster you get, It gets more fun the better SHAPE you get in - but you'll end up going faster.

I'm not talking the shape of a pear either.

I picked up riding again after not throwing a leg for 16 years. Now after three years I am as fast as I was back then and the fun factor is back. I raced recently in the 250b class. 17-21 year olds and I'm 39. Finished mid pack. Loved it. I have a track in the timber that I ride 3-4 times a week and am in great riding shape. Soo not fun not being able to push to speed be cause of arm pump. I bought bikes for my son, daughter and nephew. Always more fun when someone else is riding with you. It is not fun that my valves zeroed out and now need to tear down for a week.

x 100 . i was real slow as a kid so im one of the few who have gotten faster. im 44 am a better , faster rider then i have ever been. so yes im enjoying it more then ever. there are a lot of vets who can claim that. i have a lot of freinds who were quick local pros 20 years ago. they have gotten slower. i ride a lot more then they do and i know im havn way more fun. to be able to beat these guys now is extremely satisfying for me.

id say the most fun thing about riding/race in general is getting to experience your progression

its a ton of fun being able to 'flow' on a track and ride aggressively.
