Dungey was right on Stewart's tail right until about lap 15 when he pulled out the fastest lap of the day and squirted out to about a 1.5 second lead. I think they are VERY close in speed but Dungey actually had more bobbles than Stewart did while Stewart looked very comfortable riding that pace. I think he only had one or two slip ups the whole day and on the one in the second moto where he got cross-rutted if he were on the Yamahopper when that happened he probably would have face planted right into the ground, but on the Suzuki he was able to easily save it.

Just want to point out, that on James' fastest lap Dungey also made a mistake in line choice in the sand whoops and got hung up a little which hurt him more time-wise than James running his fastest lap of the day, and he still only extended the lead to 1.5 seconds. Those two are hauling ass right now. If these two run this pace the rest of the year, one or the other (likely both) will hit the turf at some point. And again, for anyone saying "James has more in the tank", I'm not buying that one. Not safely going faster anyway. Yesterday he had a couple situations that almost bit him (as did RD). If either of these guys starts hanging it out there more than they already are, someone will hit the deck. I predict both will at some point this season. Those two were hauling ass yesterday (as evidenced by a 1:10 min win over the nearest rider). Just praying neither gets seriously hurt.

What Dungey needs to do is start in front of JS and then ride like Alessi IF Stewart starts to pressure him. LOL!
1. If I were a betting man, my money is on James being more capable of riding on the ragged edge.

2. Dungey has started in front of Stewart in 3 out of 4 motos... James tends to make shit happen. Sorry, but the proof is in the pudding. Dungey can pass people he is going a lot faster than, but he cannot pass people running the same pace as him... just ask Chad Reed.

Anyone who thinks they can predict the outcome of the championship should be prepared to lay down a large wager.

Dungey started in front of JS both motos, but got passed by the 3rd turn.... I was there and it looked to me like JS had more speed if he needed it. Dungey is a beast at freestone every year and I expected him to win a moto. I suspect that his confidence took a hit yesterday. I think Dungey just missed his best shot at a win. I still would never say that "Stewart Will Win the championship". There are still 10 races and a lot can happen.

I agree to an extent about the confidence thing, he can take it as he couldnt pass him OR that he stayed with him the whole time both motos. I know I was frustrated myself, as a Dungey fan... I mean I was yelling at my computer both motos watching him .2 seconds behind Stewart and even pulling along side Stewart. I know Dungey wants to ride clean, but if you have to put a block pass or slightly aggressive pass then do it! I dont know if it was just that one lined that he couldnt make the pass or what the deal was, but it was pretty frustrating for me to watch.
Not sure if they showed this on tv because I haven't watched the second motos yet, but JS actually got held up by a lapper late in the secont moto and I knew Dungey was going to get him in the next turn. Stewart just went faster in that section than he had at any point in the race. At that point I knew Dungey was not getting by. My friend who is a huge Dungey fan even said that Dungey just didn't have enough to get by on this day. The section where dungey would close up was pretty one lined and JS was typically protecting the line but when JS got behind the lapper dungey had the line and JS just held it on and pulled away. I hope these two continue to battle like this the rest of the season.

Remember the Dungey that was so emotional at Southwick while he was waiting for his bike on the line? The one whose mom was with him trying to keep him calm? The one that went out and put in a truly heroic ride to stay alive in the championship?

If THAT Dungey showed up every weekend, I daresay James Stewart would be in more than a bit of trouble. The thing is, it is usually a much calmer, less aggressive Dungey that shows up every weekend. Smooth and calm is great. Smooth plus fire wins championships.

There's a fine line between being calm and aggressive. In my opinion, Dungey is the second best at finding that line but not often crossing it. The best ever HAS to be Chad Reed.

I don't think RD has to do anything different. He just needs to keep doing what he is doing and wait for the COW to go all wreckers.

gonna be hard to win the championship when you ride behind a dude and take seconds all series long.

that said, i expect him to park js7 within the first 5 rounds somewhere when his frustration bubbles over.

then we will see what's what.

freestone was dungeys track and he couldn't make it happen. There's a difference between being patient and not being able to pass someone. James hasn't ridden these tracks in 4 years and he's going 1-1 at them, sorry but your boy dungey doesn't have it this year.

After watching Freestone, it is a given. He had the speed to get James but the difference between the two is that Dungey is SMART and PATIENT. At round 12, Dungey will still be solid. Others, not so much. I highly doubt anyone else will be able to ride that kind of speed and stay off the ground for 20 more motos.

The team-traitor (James) will eventually prove that it was NOT the yamaha and then vital will implode.

Not to mention the fact that Dungey has these intangibles on his side:

1.) Roger DeCoster

3.) Jesus H. Christ
Who won both rounds?

Who passed Dungey endless times so far?

Your just but hurt that James is winning everything and hasnt even ridden outdoors in 4 years.. Brand new bike. And hes winning everything. Heres a tissue.

I see a couple things happening there. Stewart is willing to take a bigger chance & hang it out a bit more to get the lead early. Dungey knows consistency @ the beginning of a championship is the most important key. He's definitely more cautious with his passes, but i think when it get's towards the end of the series, he will get a bit more aggressive. He had a couple more aggressive passes on RV last season, but he didn't do it till the wins were a must. My feeling is Dungey want's to win but more importantly be in the running at the end of the series.

Anyone that thinks Dungey's confidence is shaken hasnt been paying attention the past couple years. He's setting up a brand new bike and all the while running right on Bubba's ass

And James is riding Outdoors for the first time in 4 years and setting up a new bike too... actually he's doing it with less time than Dungey... oh, and he is 4-0 so far.

James has been on that Zook a lot longer than you think and with plenty of base settings to boot. How about they are both going really fast and lets enjoy the racing?

Exactly!
Dungey's had way more time testing the KTM than Bubba has on the zook.
That's why I'm so impressed by his speed. He really looks good on that bike already,

But that said, I'm impressed by both of them. Amazing how they can run that fast of a pace and only make a few small mistakes. Shows just how talented they both are.
I hope they continue to go at it all year.
It's fun as hell to watch, and it's good for the sport.

The KTM is a brand new machine. The RMZ is basically unchanged since like 1994 or some shit. RC set that bike up. REED rode it and set it up. Dungey set it up too. Same with metcalf, etc. There are plenty of settings already in the books.

Dungey will get faster. James will eventually live up to his COW status.

Do you really think Dungey want's to get into a "pushing" match with James? Dungey will be sidelined for an entire season.

I have said for some time..........somebody needs to piss Ryan off at the starting line and get him in an angry-aggressive mood.
Kind of like that raace where his ignition took a crap and he thought he was done that moto last year, and here comes "Goose" with the Suzook and RD took off with a vengence in his eyes at FATE.
The guy damned near caught the race leader in that moto, remember?? It's a mental thing that Ryan's dealing with.
IMO he's a good natured young man, with polite manners and a good upbringing. Got a streak of meekness in him.
No room for that stuff in pro moto. As a one Ryan Villopoto will demonstrate real quick. Nice, good guy........
but when that gate drops, get the hell outta my way. Would've loved to have seen Villo race Stewart yesterday. Woohoo
What Roger should do to Ryan before every moto.
