Budds Creek, a fun national?

My father and I are contemplating going to Budds Creek this weekend (Sat & Sun) for our first national ever. Before we go i was wondering what everyone thinks about this track and facility and if it's worth the short drive. Anyone have some suggestions as what we should check out there? And we are planning on camping (tents) on Saturday night, is this a good idea or should we look into a hotel nearby?

Budds Creek is an awesome national.. You can see most of the track from pretty much wherever you are.. Camping is fun, and a lot of people stay in tents, but sometimes it gets rowdy on Saturday nights..maybe not sure if there would still be any hotels available.. Hope you have fun if you go!!!!

I'm heading down tomorrow night and sleeping in a tent all weekend (unless mxgirl lets me stay with her). It gets a little rowdy, nothing like unadilla or anything though.

I'm gonna go either tomorrow night or Friday morning and camp.. If you see a red and tan tent and a silver Toyota Echo, that's probably me. :D

I was very impressed with Budds Creek for the MXDN. Great facility. The temps & humidity can be brutal so be prepared. Try to find some shade, otherwise enjoy.

Budds is a fun national. I have been out there in the torrential downpour and it is still fun. It was my first national that I ever photographed for Bernt at mxlarge.com, and meeting up with Frank Hoppen and TFS(when he still was shooting with his Nikon Coolpix), I think that was 1999 or 2000. Can't remember all too well. I also went in 2001 when it was dry. Bring your hiking shoes as seeing the track from the different vantage points was awesome.

just an FYI, chances are slim to none of finding a hotel anywhere near (5-10 miles) budd's if you havn't booked yet.


you'll have to look in or around La Plata, MD. It was so freaking mobbed at the MXDN, i am thinking about just riding saturday and watching the broadcast instead. If you are bringing your bike along, the closest track to budds is about 2 miles up the road, i can't remember the name of it, but it is basically a quad track with no jumps. otherwise http://www.thelandingmx.com/ is the only real MX track within 2 hours of budds. I tried to call earlier today, but only got the answering machine.

Gibby, if you are coming in from the South or West you'll want to take I-64 to Richmond, VA, go North on I-95, then take Rt. 301 up through Dahlgren. You'll bypass DC and coming south through Charles County.

negative.. there is no fixing that. the problem is, when he changed the start, he eliminated all the other ways to get around the track. to get to the infield, you only have 2 options. 1: walk to the supercross track, and go around the back. or 2: go through the hell tunnel on henry hill..



it will be hot and muggy, it's rained here almost every other day for the last month. bring some good sunblock, and mosquito repellant!

Additionally, cut the crowd size by 60% or so.....All the VIP areas kind of screwed things up also for the traffic at the MXDN...

You can almost always get a room in Fredericksburg - a little hump but a nice area to come back to after a day at the track

When purchasing tickets, what are the advantages to buying an Early Entry Paddock (Pit) Pass verses the regular one or two day passes?

I quit doing the Am Race there a few years ago, but the track and facility are awesome.
Also, there is a drag strip within walking distance (I rode my MX bike there with a sixer on the seat!) for Friday and Sat nite fun:

I was gonna go but really is not going to be much of a race. Kinda sucks knowing who is gonna win before the gate even drops.

The start is back at the old location (up by the big barn). I don't think Beasley liked that start. Last time I was there the MXDN start was totally gone.
The tunnel won't be anything near as bad as the MXDN nightmare. That was due to them fencing off half the track.

Tip: walk through the stock car track and you can go in the back way. Last year they had Toyota trucks on the SX track for people to try.

Track is also reverse direction from the way it was at the MXDN. He's been running the amateur races reverse and he usually follow suit with the national. So they will likely be going up Henry Hill.

Also, if you don't want to sit in traffic on 234 there is a route off of Indian Head highway that brings you in from the North to those parking lots.
