thread over on another board says L & Mc got screwed by several sponsors not payin the rent.............and alot of them gave money to Feld instead of payin the bills............sad but true that this has been goin on for decades when the promoters smell blood and put the hammer down.........

one of the best quotes ever regarding sponsorship was from Bill and Jerry West, one of the original SX promoters........thier take on it was this........"well boys, we're all robbin from the same train"..........classic and still goin strong it seems!!

That sucks!

And there's me being led to believe by certain people on this forum that this unfortunate kind of stuff only happened in Europe...

Looked sketchy from the start to me, and MC is too smart to put his own cash in to this thing I'm guessing. It just didn't seem like there was a ton of support out there for this team. Too bad for Short if true, and a waste of a factory honda if that is what they had!

That would explain why Short was being paged by J-bone on twitter a couple of weeks ago. Hope he lands on his feet. Too much talent to be sitting on the sidelines during the season. Be nice to see him under the 22 awning this season along side BT101.

That would be a solid team. Don't think 22 has budget for that though. Heard Short is supposed to be in for NO this weekend so maybe his team is still alive.

Short and Townley under the same tent after the MXdN takeout in Colorado? Woohoo I bet Short still thinks he owes him one for that.

Don't know specifics, but I hear that their banner sponsor invested waaaay more than they'd originally signed on for to make up for some shortages elsewhere.

Short is a nice guy but I can't understand why any team would want him. He can't win an he has proven that many times over with many teams.

So basically by your theory there is almost no one in pro racing that should have a ride...

Ya but not about this. Actually he's probably hoping that Townley doesn't get hurt before the first National. That would be no laughing matter.

My theory is you don't go AFTER a guy that has proven he can't win. You go after a guy that at least has potential. I would groom an up an coming amateur ala Dungey before I go sign a guy that I KNOW can't win.

There are several fast amateurs that have superstar potential and they are cheaper than Short. Mitch Payton kind of does this and his bikes win plenty.

That's what I was thinking. When Reed started TwoTwo I remember Mc making public statements about how it was a terrible idea. Seems to have worked out pretty well for Reed, but Mc....not so much

Maybe they had sponsors that expected a bike on the track at least some of the time?

Doesn't Honda provide the bike for both 22 and MC race teams? If Honda wanted to, I would be they could fund Short going to 22 for the outdoors rather than see him end up on another brand. Short may not win any O/A, but he is very media friendly and gets a ton of exposure.....Look at it as a marketing move for Honda....

That seems like it makes sense, but Reed has been pretty clear he only wanted to bring on a guy with win potential, and while I am sure he respects Short, he has Townley and may feel that's enough. But we'll see. It probably depends on how committed Honda was to supporting Short through any team.

true but if Honda threw some $$$ Chad's way I am sure he would listen and maybe change his tune if it weren't coming out of his pocket. IMHO, Short has as much if not more win potential than Townley has at this time in their careers. Both would have podium potential.....

But if Honda is throwing money at teams way, why not throw it to MC and Brooks? They didn't throw money at Short at contract time, or apparently throw enough at his team for Short's sake. You'd have to say Canard and Barcia are still at the front of the line for the future, with Brayton playing a role ahead of Shorty at this point. Bringing another guy on to 22 at this point presents some logistical issues with staffing. But who knows? Maybe TLD is also an option if Honda wants to do that sort of thing. They already are built around a larger pool of riders.

Shoot, maybe Roger will take him back as support for RD. You have to imagine that wherever he goes, Short is going to be riding for bonus money.

Short term, outdoor season only. MC's team is allegedly going broke but Chad's seems stable. They can just give Shorts bike to Chad and cover his parts/expenses and have him out there since Chad's team is already going to be at the nationals and have Lars with Townley and Goose could wrench for Short. It seems from the chatter that they would have to invest a lot more to get MC's team back on the road. IDK, seems like it would be less of an investment to just place Short on the 22 team at this time if the rumors are in fact true. The TLD team would be another option for him as would the FC team if they were interested in a 450 guy.

If Short really is out of contention due to L&Mc folding, wouldn't it make sense for Factory Honda to have him ride Canard's bike? I'm sure they could get him for cheap, as he'd rather work for something than be out of a job, and you'd have to think he'd give them a better shot at a top 5 finish than if Tommy Hahn rode the bike (nothing against Tommy). And unlike Windham doing that very same thing last year, I would think Shorty would be in for the long haul and run the full season, vs the deal Windham had where he rode it until he didn't want to ride/race anymore

Townley has speed his issue is he can't stay healthy.

Short has been pretty banged up the past 2 years and has never had winning caliber speed.

Reed is running a team like it should be ran. If he can't get a contender he may as well stay home. If these riders knew they couldn't get a ride unless they killed it out there maybe there would be more contenders and better racing?

so what you are saying is the year that few raced the out doors and the rest of the field was injured this guy was capable of second place.

Sweet! That settles it pay him a couple Million and give him factory equipment 9th place here we come! I bet the sponsors line up for this!

Ok.. Sponsors not paying up? They were running Honda's supplied directly from the Factory - bikes sorted.

Supercross.com was the main sponsor. How are they not paying? You seen the money they've put into the truck racing for Twitch and MC? Unless, MC knew the team was a wasted effort and got Supercross.com to chuck all the had into his LOORS effort?

Hope Short gets Treys ride if he he gets back in time.. etc.

Just like this year in supercross, injuries are part of the sport, you never know who has podium potential at the end of the year. He was top 3 in points 2 years in a row. What up and comer who isnt signed to a team has any shot of a podium or even one moto win in 2012?
