"Last February I broke my femur and my back at Anaheim. I remember laying in ICU and I promised myself and my family I would never race Supercross again. It killed me to know that an injury is what ended my career. But at that time it was the right choice. Lucky for me I got an opportunity to race a few Supercrosses this year and Saturday night I made the 450 Main, a major accomplishment. After a long drive last night, with many thoughts on my mind, I have decided to end my Supercross career. I have the closure I needed and I can finally move on with pride and dignity. I look forward to telling my son someday that his daddy ended his career in accomplishment, and not because of a crash."

Good for him, he can look back proudly on what he's accomplished. Few riders can say they done what he has.

It's shame he won't be out there to cheer for anymore, but he's walking away healthy and happy where others haven't been so lucky.

Watched the Blair brothers rip it up in the NorCal area almost every weekend.

Those dudes were always cool and seemed like they had some smarts. Glad he could come to grips with that.

Hardest decision is telling yourself your time is up.

I saw him qualify this weekend and was pumped. He is going to leave on a good note like he said.

I talked with Matt Boni a few months ago and he made the "decision". I saw him on TV last week in a commercial for his dad's (and partially his now - I suppose) Air Conditioning (American Air and Heat) company.

We were watching practice and Steve said, "Hey, there's Daniel Blair!" We were really pumped to see him out there. During the main, though, he looked tentative and uncomfortable, and that can't be fun. When it's over, it's over. But there's nothing to keep him away from doing local races and going back to the time when the sport was just about having a good time with some friends, riding some races, doing some practice days, and just enjoying being out there.

WOW, that was tough to read. It's nice to see that he got to walk away knowing that he did what thousands try to do and never succeed . Good luck in the future Daniel your son will be proud of his dad.

cool for him to go out on his terms. Same thing with RC, went out on his terms and that is probably why he seems more at ease with the decision.

Anyone get a pic of his bike, they flashed to it on the start and it looked really cool? Gibby?

I believe he is retiring from just "supercross" not mx racing all together.
he said he wants to do arenacross again next year and of course local and fair races all summer where he really makes his mark.
he was on it at Houston and had good times in practice too.
he also said that "he beat james stewart in the results" and he can walk away proud.

Ya I saw something on twitter about preparing for 2013 AX. I was lucky enough to see him race in Toronto. I didn't even know he was racing. He's always been a favorite of mine.

Daniel is one classy dude man....him and his brother both. Met him a couple times years ago and he was just a cool dude to talk to. I came over and talked to him up at the AM days before the washougal national when he was racing.....good dude. I wish him the best.....and he made it further in this sport than 99.9% of the guys who ever start to race. Pretty friggin' good!

Daniel and I have become pretty good friends over the years. I walked into his dads shop one day in Lodi and just became friends with Daniel and his dad. When my business was good I was able to kick them boys some cash to help them out. Daniel had called me right before he got the Geico Honda ride as was so excited. When they started their band up I went to alot of their shows and helped spread the word as best as I could. When Daniel crashed bad last Feb I was able to bring him and his family dinner, because I had been there and knew how tough it was to have a family and be injured. No matter what Daniel decides to do, he will always be my friend and can count on me if he ever gets into a bind. Thanks for the racing memories and good luck in your future. Evan will be proud of his dad.

i remember him jumping everything in like the first lap of practice last year then wadding up shortly after and getting hurt pretty bad. thats too bad. glad he got in a main and was able to go out in style.
