Did some digging and I found that Dowd raced Daytona in 2005 in the lites class at 39.I don't think he made the main, crash.

I'm pretty sure Dowd had a factory 125 ride when he was in his upper 30's and even won a few races at that age.

Brown needs to realize he is not a lites rider anymore. I respect everything he has done in the sport, but it is clear the ama is attempting to make the lites class more of a stepping stone to the regular motocross class, and brown has missed this boat. He is an experienced rider and belongs with the other experienced riders, in the Motocross class.

No one, like I said i really respect Brown's riding and what he has done for the sport, but look at the lites top 10 in points. They all young kids one or 2 years out of the amateur ranks with the exception of Metcalfe. Also, Dan Reardon is in there because he is new to America, and trying to get situated with the american culture, and here comes Brown who is 36, has gone through multiple factory rides, fled to europe to escape 125 advancement rules more than once, and is in no way "new" to the pro ranks. He needs to be where he belongs. I wish the best to him, but I wish the sport could see what he could do in the premier class

There are no advancement rule for outdoors in the lites. He has fled to Europe to get paid and try to win, smoething very tough to do at that point in anyones career.

No, a number of years ago he fled to europe to avoid the supercross advancement rules for the then 125 cc class.

The lites is WAY more stacked than the 450's.

Why does the lites have so many more support teams?
It seems like the budget to keep a good 450 on the track all summer would be way cheaper.
If you look at 9-19 in each class there is a huge difference in '' the ride.''

What about Steve Lamson a couple of years ago when he rode a CR125 at Hangtown.

He was placed in the national without any qualifying because he is a past champion..I think he got last too, if i'm not mistaken..

No, Im sure he fled to Europe because he prove his name in the states and wanted to try something new. And Im sure a lot of us wouldnt mind leaving the states for a few years to go over seas, have a ride, get paid and do great at the races, and have fun and see new places at the same time. I know I would love that.

So in that case It's ok for a 32yrd who races both Lites and 450's at his local track during a series race? Let's just say he's killing the field in both classes are you going to complain than?

If it is a AMA sanctioned race at your local track should you tell him he shouldn't be allowed to race the lites? Where do you draw the line? I think form now on I 'm going to complain if your over 25yrsd and your racing the local lites class.

You have to remember that this was put together at the last minute and there is way more rides available in that class than in the big boy class. If all you could find was a lites class ride would you rather stay home instead?

No, he fled, as you call it, to Europe becouse he pointed out of the 125 class and couldnt get a ride that payed enough to support his family. He went to europe so he could feed his family. He came back after 2 years with Mitch Payton and has gone were ever he had to go since to suppot his family.

Jeez, it appears I am on the wrong side of the argument here. It just seems like by now Brown should have been able to prove himself as a competitive 450/motocross class rider, which he has yet to do. How many baseball stars stay in AAA their whole career? Nevertheless Brown is a great rider and seems like a great guy, it just feels like he has been milking the lights class for all its worth

I don't see it as "milking"........ outdoors, the 125 title holds carries just as much weight in the record books as the 250.... and perhaps more than anything, most likely, he prefers racing the lesser displacement bikes.... i know personally, i've always preferred wringing a tiddler to death over the more cautious throttle inputs on a larger displacement bike... lastly, it's not like Brown is cherry picking..... he'll be lucky to be top 5....

If you are Brown, you ride the class that someone pays you to ride. If the best offer is a ride on a 250F, you race the Lites. It's harder to qualify for the show in the Lites class so it's far from a stepping stone class.

Brownie ought to get a lifetime exemption to ride as long as he wants to in whatever (pro) class he wants to. I think that guy is as unappreciated a two-wheel rider as there is. Think about it. He has ridden pretty much every weekend, wherever he found a race, for the last 12-15 years. EVERY weekend he could ride. He epitomizes the working pro MX racer. And he got shafted by the AMA MXDN selection 'committee', whatever that was, to boot.

The last Texas Pro Challenge he raced in '06, he climbed in the truck after he got his cash and set out for an all night 13 hour drive to get to another motorsickle race. Who else you know in this sport who's got those balls at 35?

Brownie is a true ambassador for this sport.

Barry Carsten used to race places like the Detroit, Atlanta, Charlotte (and maybe Daytona) SX on Saturday night, make the main, sometimes both 125 AND 250 mains (when the rules allowed that). He would then drive all night and get to Englishtown (New Jersey) sometimes around 11am Sunday and race 3 classes and usually win all 3.

I know he did that from St. Louis, too, and that is like a 15 or 16 hour drive!
