I'm digging it. Such a cool project bike, but that frame bracing and gusseting really looks like a project for "stillwelding" here on Vital. Who could do such a thing to a limited production race bike? Bruce, can you save her??Sick

Looks like there are at least a couple people interested in the rebar wonder. There's a lot of trickness in that bike compared to the standard TM's of the day.

Check the fresh Dunlops- someone's been riding the vintage class lately!

I like the stencil/spray paint numbers. Gives the bike that classic 'patina'.

Hey newmann, I'm looking at that RH and to me it looks like a standard issue TM with moved up/ laid down shocks. Back in the 70's that mod was quite common in home race garages. Let me say that I am not doubting your knowlwdge for one second, just show me what I'm missing, oh wise one......lol

At first glance you are correct. But just compare the photo's to similar ones of a TM and you'll see that nearly everything about the bike is different. Frame , engine, forks, hubs, alloy tank and of course those custom painted side panels.

VMX did a thing on one from the era that was not DeCoster level works, but the sort of regional pro works bike, way beyond the TM. Kind of like the first YZ's Wonder if it's one of those.

Certainly by fall 75 they had moved on the to newer style bikes, the one's the RM mimicked. The 74 pure works bikes did look like that, but had an ally swing arm.

Fall 74 works 370.

I remember years ago at Saddleback, Suzuki came out to a CMC race with a non-works 250 but not a production 250...maybe this is the bike...to me it looked trick and different?????

That's what I'm thinking FTE, you and tireguy have it right. There is a 74 RH250 over near Houston that I've kept the owner's info on for the last ten or so years waiting for him to decide to sell. Might need to call him again since I'm unloading some bikes.

It is an RH. It certainly is not a TM or an ex-works bike. The forks, case design, kicker location, head, tank, frame layout and even the side plate mounting location give it away. The forks are very similar but not identical (at least on the outside) to the works forks.
I know a little but not the entire history of the models but there were quite a few of them around. They basically were halfway between the TM and works bikes of their era.
Now the arc welding that was done on the poor frame is another story...........
I certainly would like to have it though!!!!

Got to race one of the original RH 250cc bikes back in the seventies. Had this friend Keith, who'd come into an inheritance, bought a motorcycle clothing shop at Sports M/c in Manchester England and splashed the cash on an RH.
Keith wasn't much of a rider, so used to let me practice & race it. Thing was a rocket ship compared to my Montesa Cappra's. It handled great, really low centre of gravity.
Keith wasn't much of a business man either, ended up going bust on clothing store by living the playboy lifestyle instead of working!

Price is getting up there, about to pop 10 grand and the reserve is still not met. Might need to start welding some old rusted rebar to some of my bikes!

Use grade 40 for flexibility and 60 for ridgidness. Always worked for me.

Think outside the box for a minute....the motor and frame look like a 1976 RM250. Just take the up-pipe off, install a TM250 gas tank,forks and TM250 down pipe and there you are...a pre-production RM250. I guess back then works bikes really evolved into production bikes...............I miss real factory bikes.....

Your right parts do look like the 76 rm250. I don't know what to think about that chain guide.

Similar, yet totally different. 76 models had bolt on front engine mounts, swingarm wasn't ribbe across the top, TM tanks were steel. Need to dig through my VMX Magazines for the article FTE referenced about the RN's and RH's. Good read about a lower level works bike offered to fast riders.




Also, 76 RM250 had a 6 bolt cylinder and reed valves. RH didn't.
