I was thinking about this laying here last night, remember the very cool custom protector that Roczen wears? It is a fox airframe chestpro in the front, with an athena (i think) spine protector back plate. No idea if it would help in a case like Treys, but it surely couldnt hurt to have one.

Would love to see more riders wearing them. (ill try to dig up the pics)

I had a very hard time getting to sleep last night, i just hate hearing news like this and woudlnt wish what i have been through in my life on my worst enemy.

Here is the chestpro / spine protector that Kenny wears i was talking about:

check out some of his under armor, which is a custom-made piece from Fox Racing that integrates the sleeves from their Titan Sport Jacket, a well-ventilated chest plate from a Proframe LC Roost Deflector, and a back protector from Ortema.

I have been staying away from the net since we couldn't watch the SX til this afternoon......oh my god that was just brutal looking.

Thoughts and prayers go out the Canard's and the Morais family as well.
So glad it hasn't been worse news.

That is a really cool protector! When my son was racing 80's, he was involved in a chain reaction crash over a big blind jump, and another riders front wheel hit him square in the back. The next day his back was solid purple in the shape of the rear protector he was wearing. I'm certain it would have broken his back if he hadn't been wearing it

From Aaron:
Hey all. Just got out of the MRI and we should know very soon what they want to do to sure. Trey in fact has not had any surgery yet.

Thanks for the updates. When I saw the wreck today I was seriously afraid of what I might read when I got online.

I've never shared this story on here before, but this summer my girlfriend and I were doing a Bible study at the Starbucks in Shawnee when Trey came crutching in with his broken leg, shortly after Washougal. He sat down and shot the breeze with us over coffee for probably close to an hour. My girlfriend was completely unaware of his accomplishments racing, thinking he was just a somewhat known guy around Oklahoma, until I later showed her some dirt scoot videos on youtube later. Aside from all the dirt bike stuff, I left that coffee shop that day not inspired by the racer, but by the person. There really is nothing left to say about the guy that has not been said before, and I am sure I'm not alone when I say this, but I've never been this saddened over a professional racing accident.

Prayers and thoughts sent to both riders and their families.

That looked like frame rails to the back of the head. Not good.

Best of wishes to both of these riders. Very saddened of something like this occurring to any rider, but especially to local boy Trey Canard. The SX series just lost a little of its luster for this guy.

Morais' got unbelievably pummeled! I hope both these guys are able to recover 100%. I'm sure the entire moto community feels the same.

ah...

banner was not in his wheel, it was on his shifter, and probably downshifted his bike and/or prevented him from getting his boot under it to upshift out of the turn.

It's a bitter irony that it's a Honda banner. That photo is haunting.

I don't see how I missed this thread this morning before i took off for work......but holy crap! I feel terrible for both Trey and Ryan. This sport can sure chew up and spit out riders right and left.

I saw Arrons first post ( the OP ) and then his next post about having to go in for surgery.....has anyone heard how things went yet?

Got my fingers crossed.
