Damn... I really feel for this guy with how many injuries he's had. Most have 1 significant event, but this dude has had several. He still can produce a smile though... Top respect for this guy. Also, top props for all the others we don't get to see because they aren't famous like DH. I empathize with all who've been hurt to ths level. Tough guys/gals to keep on keepin' on...

I am still regretting becoming star struck and not being able to speak the last time DH was at Washougal. Truly and inspiration and role model. DH is the man.

I was there at the track on Sunday and actually parked my truck right in front of him. I didn't realize it was Doug Henry until my wife noticed the #19 on the bike. He passed me looking very smooth, fast, and precise.

Just nuts, once you've ridden with him you'd be in shock just how fast he still is. It's nuts what he will do

I'm still keeping it on two wheels for now. It's starting to get cold here in upstate NY. Picked up a CR250R I might put studded tires on it for the winter. Bought a XR50 for my son Eli. I want to make it into a Geico replica for him. He likes Eli Tomac and says thats him when we watch MX. Going to Toga for Thanksgiving, I hope to hook up with Hill and the crew for some riding.

So would you get on Doug Henrys bike?

People don't realize how bad ass that jump is for a person who isn't disabled. Damn, I wish I went to the track on Wednesday. Did Tony have alot of damage from the storm? I figured the road in would be full of down trees.

I love Doug Henry and his story is awesome, lived out of a van with his wife and made it to the very top with hard work and support from his wife! What a great asset to motocross. What a great person.

This stuff is amazing! It does make me wonder though. Who remembers the discussion when Darius Glover wanted to qualify for Lorettas in a "normal" class? Whistling

I say let 'em do what they want btw.

Rocky hill last Saturday was amazing, was going Sunday but was way to sore. Yes, Doug has crashed on the bike at my buddies, you just pick him up and he's good to go! He really has no fear and riding with him really shows you how much he appreciates just being able to do what he does. They really do
Need to make a movie about his story, best example of never giving up on life

Theoretically, could Baily be out there doing the same things, or are the two injuries different? I remember the ('06?) anahiem race where he eased around the outside of the track with RJ.

It seems like I remember Bailey saying that while he could do it, he decided he'd better not.

Doug Henry is without a doubt the most inspirational human being I have ever seen PERIOD. I don't care if it an interview, how he interacted with the fans, how he rode, how NOTHING can keep the him down...that man right there could teach the 99% of mankind a whole new lesson on life.

Devil's advocate but....

Lets say there's a top rider with a reputation for crashing and getting hurt. He always comes back trying again, only to continue crashing.

What kind of reaction do fans give him? Is he crucified as being a danger to himself because he can't learn his lesson?

If he gets paralyzed and still wants to ride, should the reaction change? Why would it change? Does it change out of respect, pity, wanting to let the rider do as he wishes, or wanting a "hero" story to continue? Does it change because the rider is thought of as a nice guy? Are people afraid to tell a guy who is disabled and a hero of theirs that he should cool it? Is it right to tell him anything at all? Is it different if he was a pro or an average joe before the injury?

The different reactions people have regarding riders in these scenarios is interesting to me.

It's not about Doug riding because he still can in some form, it's about him doing it out of a love for riding with his families support, with a love for all the sport has provided for him and because it is a way for him to do the one thing that no matter what has been put in his way, he still finds a way to do what he loves. I've watched him go out and make some pretty fast people look silly, all while riding a bike that weighs 100+ lbs more, with no ability to stand, a metal cage around him, etc. and some ask how and why? When you love something so much you will find a way and nothing has every kept him from doing what he loves! That jump he's doing is not just some big double on a straightaway. It's out of a corner that has a hip type double in the middle and you never stop turning until your airborne, I couldn't believe he did it, but never doubt a man that has broken all boundaries placed in his way.

David did get to ride a few years ago on a modded Honda, but the jostling on his internal organs from being wheelchair bound caused some bad health problems afterwards.
Thankfully DB is fully recovered now and enjoying his new role as Art Director at JT Racing.
