Gotta say.... I like it. This isnt a bad direction for mx. I just hate the recharge thing. I like my practice days that definitly outlast the battery life.

I'm surprised they still have a brake pedal, instead of moving it to a hand control where the clutch lever usually is.

The first "home" computer took up a whole room and cost millions!

great point. only problem, tech wasn't where it is today.

problem is, these companies are small and are trying to recoup the cost to fast for the RD.

great idea, but i highly doubt they will be flying out the door at 15k. IMO, they need to be less expensive than the current MX pricing.

so true.. once these are the norm, we might as well move the rear brake level from the foot level to the clutch side of the bars.. I like it.. bring on those right turn starts!

I kind of picture more of a hybrid 'MX meets MTB' sport when this finally kicks off (or when KTM release there steed). Looking forward to seeing how things develop.

looks like it comes with a refrigerator under the tank to keep the beers cold while ya ride.....

but seriously..... they gotta do something that looks better in the area formerly used for a gas combustion engine...

I think electric bikes have the possibility of reviving the sport in the future due to the low cost. Back in 1996, GMC was designing electric cars, but the plan was aborted because they were so inexpensive to maintain (watch the documentary Who Killed The Electric Car). Maintaining an electric bike would probably end up being cheaper that maintaining a 2-stroke. But what will the classes be like though? The 500-volt class, and the 250-volt class? haha

Look a hell of alot better than their current competition. The KTM prototype looked cool too but haven't heard anything about it in quite awhile. THere is a local company ZERO here in Santa Cruz Ca doing the same thing but their product is not quite refined enough yet.

You missed the KTM thread, where it looks like production will start in 2014.

I like it. Looks like it would be a fun ride.

But the position of the rear shock looks like it will deliver a very different ride/feel compared to a standard gas MX bike.

I would love to see an Electric Demo at a National or SX in the very near future.

Craiger, can you imagine the hell we could of raised on one of these back in the day? would of been a hell of a lot easier (and quieter) than coasting our bikes to congress springs park and ripping the hell out of the place!

For those who know of Seward Park on Lake Washington in Seattle, by buddy and myself rode into the park one evening on Yamaha RT 1 360's (I was 16 or so) and proceeded to tear it up for about an 1/2 hour. It was so awesome. Pristine trails and roads that had never seen a dirt bike. That rip is indelable in my minds eye. We rode 20 some miles and back from home alsoSmile

Think about the money you spend on your dirt bike with gas and accessories, it probably adds up to 15K or even more! An electric dirt bike for 15K is probably just as good of a deal. For competitive riding, a regular dirt bike is probably better though.

Nice looking machinery for sure. I like how the future looks. The 2014 KTM will really expose the outcome and right now I'm really tempted, but if it's a turd I fear E-bikes is still further in the future, because if KTM can't do it, how could?

Looks good, I like it. Like others said much more consistent with the look of a modern bike. If they could only find a better lower spot for the battery. Id hate to think how much that weighs. Why not a small 2 cycle engine charging a smaller battery? I like the Audi idea of a rotary engine charging a battery. I wonder if you would feel the spinning?

The real difficulty in making a decent electric bike is adapting the power to the wheel for different track conditions / lean angle/yaw etc... A lot of people don't understand what an electric motor feels like - no gears and immediate power - traction control is a must.

See if your neighbors would be willing to pitch in on the price. I bet a few of mine would contribute to a "quieter neighborhood" fund.

Thats not true. When you have a eletric motor you can get torque by wire control. This means 50% throttle equals 50% torque. Your right wrist is your traction control. I once have ridden an electric bike and it feels awesome. Very much four stroke like but then even better.

And electric dirtbike is exactly what the sport needs. Quiet and easy to maintain motorcycles. The cheapness still has to come however. But with constant ongoing battery R&D this has become a matter of time.

Compare modern day laptop batteries with batteries from 7 years ago. Big difference.

Another problem is the coming shortage of lithium which is used in batteries. When we go all electric the lithium in the ground will exhaust very quickly. The same as happens to the oil.

I call BS on that Devin. Much like the piece of shit Traxxas Slash RC car my youngest son spent money on, electric bikes will be somewhat the same. You'll have to have a spare $5000.00 battery because you won't be able to get in more than 30 minutes ride time on a charge and it will take too long to recharge. The electric motor will burn up and cost more than a 250F to repair. Repair? Probably won't be any repairing, just replacing.....wonder what that will cost? There will be issues, that you can count on. Would be fun for thrashing around the neighborhood, but on a real track I don't see the attraction.

I disagree with your disagree:

(Much like the piece of shit Traxxas Slash RC car my youngest son spent money on.)
Don't compare apples to oranges.

(You'll have to have a spare $5000.00 battery).
Don't exaggerate. AND technology of batteries is quickly improving.

(The electric motor will burn up and cost more than a 250F to repair).
You dont know that AND yes electric motors are rebuidable.

(Would be fun for thrashing around the neighborhood, but on a real track I don't see the attraction).
I see a great attraction

I would have to download a ProCiruit 125 engine noise to the speaker. It would be cool you could make your bike sound like anything you wanted to. You could even make it sound like a V8 or have a supercharger whine
