I joined this chat room just so I could inform of "Nick's" status. He is in bad shape. He's 11 y/o. One of friends was the first on scene. She said he had extreamly shalow brethhing, a bad pulse, his eyes were buldging out of his head, he lost the mahority of his teeth, and had heavy bleeding. They flew him out and immediately induced a coma. He is preped with bults in his head in the case they'll need to do emergency brain surgery due to the amount of swelling in his brain. Such a sad situation.

As far as hearing about this in a chat room....well boys, this IS part of the sport. And when your there and physically watch something like this go down, you'd be a cold heartless person if you did not immediately become emotionally involved.

Let's not forget that these kinda things are more likely to happen just driving around town. You count your blessings, pray for the family, and continue living. Our lives are in Gods hands and you never know when and if you'll be directly involved or impacted next.
Korin, thank you so much for updating me/us. You are 100%, exactly correct in your second paragraph. I don't know Nick at all, but being there, standing over him and seeing his face, hearing his dad scream (saving details of course), will FOREVER been ingrained in my mind and heart. Nick's a fellow racer but most importantly a human being, a kid for God's sake...we have an emotional responsibility to each other as people.

I seriously thought about packing it up and heading home as my bike was sitting on the gate (I was the very next race). I had to talk myself through the fact that seeing the accident doesn't make it any more dangerous, we ALL know the risks...my prayers to Nick and his family.

Please keep us updated.

We all hate to see a rider go down hard and this one was a kid, maybe 15? Happened on the down side of the log jump just before turning right and going to Talladega. I was on the gate (race 8) and walked over a few minutes after it happened and it did not look good at all. Sad

They life flighted him out. PRAYING he's OK.

My sincerest and best thoughts to the family and racer.

Hope to hear back on this forum with good news.

BC, could not agree more. I was out on Thursday practice getting in the way of all the pro's and nearly every one of them was having to jump up on top, grab a handful of front brake and a ton of rear brake just to keep from bouncing off and flat-landing from 20'. My biggest fear when doing that section was EXACTLY what happened to Nick. It was my least favorite part of the entire race track and I hated doing it every lap.

Nick is a very strong kid, I spent everyday of summer with him last year while I wasn't racing mx, he would ride mikes zuki 110 behind me while I was mountain biking up the never ending road by my house, he is in very bad condition, he hasn't woken up yet, I'll be seeing him at Loma Linda soon, he will make it threw with our positivity, I didn't realize this thread was about nick till I opened it, just pray for him and I'll keep u up to date on this.
Right on Jeff, thanks.

Thoughts sent to the little man.

I don't like to think about it. I prayed for him and my wishes go out to his parents for his recovery. I agree with, douglasredding, and Br484. The tracks do not need to be dangerous. Jumps can be made that are safe to land on even if you make a mistake. As douglas said, even the pro's had problems. My question is, why is it there? We have wooden timbers stick out of the ground, jumps that offer no safety, what's this coming to? Over the last few years I have noticed that Chad Reed has been the one to jump at the officials for unsafe track conditions. I commend him for that. People here try to compare this sport with NASCAR as far as the money goes. But they try to make things safer for their drivers, while in this sport they just do stupider things that can get the riders hurt. Makes no sense.

Good thoughts and prayers sent out. Hang in there buddy, pull through and come out stronger than ever!

This is a scary part of the sport, and a nature of the beast. Unfortunately, the faster the kids get, the more at risk they are for getting hurt. Everytime im at the track, my daughter (who is 2 and a half now) loves being there, and says she wants to ride. But this is the reason im not sure i want her to. I hate to see her stub her toe or something minor, let alone this.. Not sure i could handle watching my kid be in pain. So with this, Prayers to the family, i cant imagine what you're going through at this time, i hope there is a speedy recovery for Nick and the family! My thoughts are with you all.

Hey boys, after our friends headed to Loma Linda last night to visit Nick this is the report they sent us...

"he is doing better..they added a new medication thats flushing th fluid from the brain out of him and his numbers r all looking better...his mom and dad r in good spirits...in 2 more days he will get an brain mri and they will see whats going on..."

Sooooo, there's a bit of a "positive" report. There will hopefully be even more positive news coming in the next day or two.....

THANK YOU FOR YOUR POSITIVE THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO NICK AND HIS FAMILY & FRIENDS! God Bless!!!

There is no reason for that jump to be the way it is! Your absolutly right, there are ways to make the tracks safe but for some reason these track owners allow this shit to happen. My Dad and I were there the other day, there are 3 jumps in a row w the one in question being the last. My Dad did the first 2 but I told him I didnt think he should do the third because it had major consequence if you dont get it right.
So I ask Glen Helen this...why build a jump like that? I would like an explanation Glen Helen!!
I remember complaining about Perris a few years back...I told the lady they should fire the track builder before someone gets killed. She Banned me AND my friends from even riding there! And after I said that someone did die there. Ive also complained to the Olehofs who run Compedge...but these people dont seem to get it.
Safer tracks = less injurys...simple! Who wants to see this over and over again?

I currently work at perris and for ever complaint we get about a jump being unsafe we get more complaints about the track being too easy, not big enough jumps, not technical enough, ect.. Not trying to start an argument on here just pointing this out. Thats why some tracks of course have an amateur/vet track and then a main/expert track. Somewhere like glen helen though you are dealing with a national caliber track design and difficulty wise
