So expecting a rider to show up at the races and communicate with the team is being a "straight bitch with zero heart"?

I think that post was referring to Pourcel not Genova.

I love that someone will give out the poop like this and fill us all in, even if it is one side of the story. That being said, I don't see what the other side could possibly be other than "Zee zituation iz dat I am zee dick!"

I really was warming up to Pourcel as it seemed most of the US fan-base was. So much for that, I guess.

Mike Genova here, owner of MotoConcepts. I am taking the time to set the record straight about the CP saga. There is no deception or lies being pedaled here.

CP chose to ride for MotoConcepts because we as a team thought that it was important to offer a rider of his caliber a base salary plus bonuses, as we were told that the other teams that he was speaking with were only willing to offer him a bonus structure only.
Hope everybody can respect us for that.

Through the bike setup process before the season start CP was happy with our bike and setup. As everyone knows it takes a ton work and time to get a bike where a rider wants it and it is always changing. Unfortunately we didn't have the luxury and benefit of a lot of time on our side. This poses a challenge for any team, not just ours.

As we all saw CP rode the Yamaha fast, but for whatever reason he was unable to maintain the pace needed. After Freestone CP chose to go to Florida even though he was directed to come to California to work with us, factory Yamaha, Enzo and factory KYB.
Unfortunately CP refused to communicate with his intentions and never came to California. As we waited for an acknowledgement from CP that he was going to come out, almost a week of two week break had passed, and so we made the decision to ship his practice bike {the bike that he and us wanted to make better} out to Florida. Through all of this CP was completely out of communication {his choice} with the team other than some vague texts to me.

Because of our total unsureness of CP's intentions for Highpoint, we were forced to completely operate in a "business as usual" mode, having his race bike ready to go with his mechanic there ready to rock.

Through all of this, myself, DV and the rest of our hard working crew have been ready and willing to forgive and forget and get to business, as we didn't bring CP to our team to just fool around and waste a ton of money.

DV has been honest and forthright to a tee. He was operating in the dark in terms of what CP was going to do. Therefore he was never lying to anyone, ever. He just knew nothing from CP so he did not what to say or do.
Good post ,Mike.
Thanks for stepping up and telling us all what happened.
We appreciate it.

As for CP....it's a bummer he did this to you guys, who tried to help him in a sense.

If not, perhaps now would be an appropriate time.

I've known Mike awhile and he's a total straight shooter. I also know that as of last Friday the team had no clue what Pourcel was doing due to CP's obstinate behavior. I used to have a ton of respect for Pourcel, despite the fact that he was usually a total dick to me whenever I asked him a question. Whether one-on-one or during press conferences, it didn't matter, he was always a dick. People would make excuses for him, like "He didn't understand your question", or "He's just shy", or "He's just got his own program and it's working". I think I like that one the best. Hell, even Mitch offered something similar when asked about Pourcel's training regimen. I guess as long as your program is working you can get away with anything.

Well guess what...It ain't working anymore.

Yes, he came back from ridiculously debilitating injuries to bag a Supercross championship and nearly win two outdoor titles, while still suffering from the lingering effects of those injuries. Yes, it's a thing of beauty to watch him ride and you cannot deny he is the closest thing to Bailey and Windham since, well, Bailey and Windham. So we all cut him some slack and shrugged it off with, "Hey, he's French".

The degree of arrogance displayed by him ignoring of repeated attempts by his sponsor/employer to take care of business is contemptible and off the charts unacceptable. Unless he's in jail or dead there is no excuse for not letting the team know what the fuck was going on. His behavior reminds me of a tweaking crackhead on a 3-week binge...but even those guys eventually surface when they run out of dope.

Perhaps that's what Pourcell needs: to run out of dope. Cut off his money and stop kissing his ass. The sooner that his agent and everyone else stops enabling him, the better. Someday soon, Mr Pourcel is going to have to decide if he wants to do the work he needs to do to make it in this sport.

My guess is that he doesn't want to race. What a waste.

Hopefully you guys on this board will show Mike Genova more respect than you showed Larry Brooks and others who have dared post in here and he'll come back around. Thanks, Mike!
Couldn't agree more. If Pourcel was having his own issues he should have at least communicated this to the team. There are guys out there who would KILL to have that ride.

Maybe opposite. Who knows. As he said he`s not going back to wheelchair. I hope he has a legitimate reason to say things he`s saying.

Will he? Of course he had the speed here, but for only 5 laps or so. I can't see him doing any better with longer motos....

Thanks for the post Mike, Good luck with the rest of the season., Will, and Kyle, rode much better and results show, this weekend. Your sponsers should be proud , That even in this week of uncertainty , DV and your riders took a quick minute to stop for a few picture from a fan. It is an unfortunate when a rider doesn't appreceaite the oppurtunity given to them.
We fans hope this expierance dose not sour your teams attitude or motivation to suceed. Your team has become one of the main stays in the pits, hope you continue to keep it there.

Mike, I don't feel you needed to explain anything at all. Everyone knows CP is complicated (at best) and that MotoConcepts went the extra mile on your side. There is always one person out there looking to make a mountain out of a non-existent mole hill. The ninety-nine percent of everyone else appreciates all the efforts MCR has contributed to US MX and SX.

Now, to the real question, "How do we get Cedric Soubeyras back on a two stroke?"

Burn, you mean, "Now back to the real question that fits the agenda that I'm most interested in..."

The thing with Cedric was very cool from a PR point of view, but it wasn't about building a race winner/title contender, which seemed to be the primary goal of trying to make something happen with CP.

On that subject, where did Cedric go??? I thought he would be racing a 350 in MX1.

Oh, I know, I was kidding. I think Soubeyras will do better on the 4-stroke (except for SX). I do appreciate everything MCR has done and the effort they have given to our sport.

What CP is doing now to MCR is wrong and f'ed up, but questioning his heart? Really? The guy came back from being wheel chair bound to win 2 supercross titles, and was damn close to 2 outdoor titles. Most people hang it up for way less severe injuries. Think about that before you question his heart.

Well, I have to agree. Do you guys still have the bike? How hard would it be for MCR to get a KTM together for him?

Good for Mike to go on a forum and lay out all the facts. Sure, it's one side of the story, but the facts are hard to refute. CP is an artist on a motorcycle, but he's an artist who's dependent on a lot of labor by other people, and it's unfair to the team and to the mechanics and team workers themselves for CP to simply refuse to show up. It's an insult to them - they're doing this kind of work because they love it, not because they're getting rich. If I was a mechanic and I spent a week stripping his race bike down to the frame and rebuilding it bolt by bolt, making it the absolutely best that I could, I'd be furious if the rider just didn't care enough to show up.

CP's going back to Europe? Good riddance.
Could not agree more.
It takes a very unique personality to stand up your mechanics and support staff.
As you pointed out the guys are not getting rich and really are there for the love of the sport.
They are behind the scenes changing components trying to help the rider find the optimum setup.
They have to listen to the rider complain about their work when sometimes its the rider that is the cause of poor results.
They have to hold a straight face when a rider chooses component A over component B (even though
the rider declared component A unrideable less then 24 hours ago)
While the rider is high tailing it to the airport after the race, the mechanic is washing the bike putting tools away and hustling awning poles like a carny.
Most riders have an appreciation for the mechanics and support staff.
Some do not.
The mechanics never forget.

What about that little detail that CP always trains in Florida? Sure dude seems to have some issues according to 99% of people here, but I'm pretty sure DV originally said ok to that?

But should we ignore that and just go for this CP is 100% wrong. Its pretty rare that just one party is to blame 100%...

when?... I think he is a head case... He needs to work on his head and the rest will happen... It will be easier on him aver there...
Not and never was a CP fan, IMO he should go home, I think the same way about any talent that starts believing the hype...

How many riders have you hired and/or managed? Tuned NAILED IT!

Tuned-length is particularly close to this situation and, frankly, coulda jus' come right out and made a few "Straight Declarations"; however, I can appreciate his "Swiss-Neutrality" approach. He built SPECIFIC hardware for the rider/team/bike in question...

As to the DV "approvals"...to my surprise...I was told...early on...that he WAS NOT a real big advocate for this "move'...
