I'm sitting out front of our local Fish n Chip shop after placing my order.
Asian now, not Greek owners, I asked for a pickled onion, and was greeted with blank stare, they had no idea what I was talking about.
Now my night is ruined.
Well, try something different for once .
Our local Fish and Chip and Hamburger shop, went from a Greek family (I went to school with the 2 girls and 1 boy - all wonderful people, parents included, and all HIGH achievers - immigrants tend to Not f**k around ) - to Vietnamese ownership, long ago.
The addition of Their culinary heritage, adding Viet / Asian food, to the Greek / OZ previous servings ( which were Great) has only made it Better.
I always have a mix.
Within a 3 to 5 K radius, we've at least 5 Maccas, 4 Kentucky Fried Kittens, 3 Krispy Cremes, at least 4 Pizza Huts, and Dominos [each] - and more Big US origin Franchise fooderies, plus, seeming innumerable other independent eateries ( I find it mind blowing to see so many Take Away's / Restaurant's we have locally - but, it's a suburb / suburbs that have grown Hugely, over the decades I've lived here) , but, there's Always a line up, every evening, for My Hong's ( previously George's) Fish and Chip shop.

How do they respond if you ask for mushy peas and a deep fried mars bar?

Chippy pickled onions are the best 👍, now if you can get proper chippy sauce you’ve cracked it, this is as close as you can get

My dad’s family is from a poor area in Arkansas. I’m convinced that the only reason people eat okra is that they were so poor that they had to find some way to eat the weeds.
