It’s insane to me more people aren’t excited about going back to the moon.

I suppose some think it’s our first time….

It's pretty damn cool.

You're right, surprised that there hasn't been more hype, and anticipation.

Fingers crossed for a good launch! While in the Navy I flew with the Artemis 2 mission commander. My last carrier landing was with him. This one has me nervous. Not much experience with this launch vehicle.
He went to ISS on a Soyuz rocket. Very well proven. Another bud did four shuttle missions. Another reasonably proven and reliable platform. This one… Godspeed Tonto!

I’m really out of the loop on this. I just learned we were doing this about 30 minutes ago. I deleted my thread about it. Pretty cool.

Always relieved once they’re up out of earth’s orbit. 💯

Yep, I agree with you.

But unfortunately, the country is more interested in crap like the no king's protest rally..... 🙄

I remember watching the ... national geographic..?  Series on the original moon missions on VHS at my omas house. I think it was like 8 or 10 tapes, probably watched it a dozen times growing up. So cool that they're going back.

Slightly off topic, @LewisPhillips you were right about the new spacecraft landing the same way they took off.  Steve was also right about them landing like a plane, but that was the shuttle program which ended a while ago. Other missions just fall to earth on bigass parachutes.

This is the best perspective for a rocket launch.

Thats pretty badass.   Although, I'm a bit shocked that  a larger commercial airspace wouldn't have been locked down for that launch window.

That's what I was thinking.

Looks kinda close.

That’s the first thing I thought when the video started. You would think the free air space would have been much greater.

In the horrifying event of a malfunction during the first several minutes of escape velocity ( Challenger) that could have been even a worse situation.

As cool as it is, I'm just wondering if that video is legit or possibly another AI generated bullshit piece.  I'm not savvy enough to differentiate them

According to this it was a flight from Costa Rica to Atlanta off the west coast of Florida, flight path goes over the Atlantic.

Yeah i saw that article - and the video may very well be authentic, but still very shocked that NASA/ DOD  would not have shut down a huge amount of airspace for an hour surrounding the launch . For more than one reason .

Wonder what the radius actually was for airspace lockdown during the launch .

Isn’t this the wrong side of the plane if they are going north?

I didn't think about it at the time, but "FlightRadar24" would have shown us exactly what it was.

Yeah good point - and  so was lappedriders .  Does appear they are flying north .

Anyone on here that has any insider knowledge of NASA/DOD/USAF/CIA/ FAA  guidelines on how much airspace gets shut down for something like this ?

Surely seems like it would be more than the 30 mile radius they typically use around former Presidents private residences.

A quick google search showed me this ---Currently, there are no specific details available regarding the shutdown of commercial airspace for NASA's Artemis launch today.

They were a very long way away from that launch. The opposite side of Florida over the Gulf.

My daughter asked me why we're doing this mission to the moon and I said, "So the astronauts can take pictures and prove to the FLERFS that the Earth is round." 😆

Was listening to the radio this morning and they made a comment that they are now on the way to the moon with a "working toilet". I haven't had time to follow what's going on, so I don' know if that was a joke, reference to another mission, or they had problems with the toilet? Anyone know? Possibly a joke from the big bang theory?

Apparently they had some sort of an issue with it, but got it fixed.

I saw a news story about it yesterday, but it was a video story, so I didn't watch it.

I just pulled this off the googler. This was from "The Big Bang Theory" so I thought it might have just been a joke.

"Howard Wolowitz designed a space toilet called the "Wolowitz Zero-Gravity Waste Disposal System" for the International Space Station, but it malfunctioned due to a design flaw in the diverter valve"
