Summer is just around the corner. Any of you guys have a trip planned or, planning on doing something cool once the warmer weather hits?
I have three childhood friends I’ve known my entire life flying in from California this August. A couple of them got into fishing after I moved to Washington so, they’re wanting to come up and, give salmon fishing a shot after years of me tormenting them with pics of my catches throughout the years.
I go back to visit family and, them every few years so, it’ll be a nice change getting them up here this time around.
One of them is scared shitless as I’ve been telling him about fake mountain lions I’ve encountered since this trip was first planned. I’m usually on the water by 2:30 and, it’s dark AF.
Here’s the group text and, me letting one of them in on it.

Should be a good time.
Let’s hear what you guys have planned.
Sounds like good times ahead Chance 😄
We have a few things "Inked", this summers looking good !
5-24 Pala MX Round 1
6-1 Friends of Steve McQueen car show in Chino Hills
6-14 Harley night Costa Mesa Speedway
7-19 George Strait / Chris Stapleton concert (2 nights in a hotel)
No date set but want to do a Kennedy Meadows trip in August
9-13 World of Outlaws Sprint car race at Perris Auto Speedway
June 18-21,4 days 3 nights at Waterfall Resort in Ketchikan AK. Salmon, Halibut and Lingcod here we come. Second time going here, 1st was in 06 when my youngest graduated high school .
Headed to my son's in South Carolina in June then driving up to Virginia with his family. He is entered into a Loretta Lynn's qualifier at Lake Sugar Tree. If he makes it, big if, we will be headed to Tennessee in July. It will be a first time for us. Really looking forward to to this.
Driving from NW Illinois allllllllll the way down to Myrtle Beach. It'll be my daughter's (7 years old) first time seeing the ocean and vast beaches. The 17 hour drive should be interesting. We decided not to fly, because the tickets were super expensive and now all of a sudden they are cheap. Guess what? I don't have a a REAL ID or passport. Shot myself in the foot on this one. 🤣
Then the yearly pilgrimage to Redbud. Debating whether to take our daughter, but it's a long hot day. I can here it now, "Can we go back to the hotel?" 🤣

Might add, I’m excited to get back out and, go riding. I haven’t gotten out since bouncing off a tree the last time.
Going to turn my attention to this truck. It hasn't fired up since I picked it up when my dad passed away back in 05. Even then, it ran really poorly. So, I dunno. Everything needs gone through. It has a straight 6, 1 barrel carb and I remember it being a dog. Not sure if I want to rebuild it as is, or do a LS swap. But yea, kind of a big undertaking. A bit more to it than restoring old CRs.
We used to have a 1950 Chevy pickup on the farm, a 3/4 ton. You could say I learned how to drive in it. Seeing the interior of yours brings back pleasant memories. ☺️
I vote that you leave the straight 6 in it fwiw.
Thank you for saying that. The standard, three on the tree is super cool. But what is not cool is lack of AC in Texas.
Chevrolet Truck 1951 Products
Gracias!
I also had a 1950. The one with the rear corner windows. Straight 6, 216 I believe. 6 volt. Vacuum windshield wipers.
1950's air conditioning
Scuba in Tobermory Canada in July and an Alaska Cruise in August.
I'll try and hoist a few. As long as the NC trout population cooperates.
Keeping my head above water, literally and figuratively.
Don't forget the curb feelers and keep your windwings out.
"Windwings"? Is this one of those fancy options that the rich folks added or did you mean "wing window"? 😉
Turning the 3 season place in N. Wisconsin more of a 4 season place 1 beer at a time....
Pit Row
They were windwings when we were kids. We liked them because we'd get a little oxygen mixed in with the cigarette smoke from both parents chain smoking in the front seat. 🤪
I’m sure a trip to the Oregon coast.
Maybe washougal national who knows
We did that last year in our camper and trailer with dual sports and e-bikes and had a great time. Washougal was hot !

We stumbled on an idea on the way back. We wanted to camp in Monterey for a couple nights on the way home and every campground was full. So we called Laguna Seca and they had lots of spots. Wound up being one of the nicest places we stayed the whole trip plus woke up to a bunch of race cars practicing Saturday morning, win win ! Same price as a regular campground too, $65’ a night if I remember right. Rode Hwy 1 to where it was closed and had an awesome dinner on the pier. I’d do that trip again in a second.
No plans, but my little family has been doing road trips pretty often since Covid started up. We'll probably do at least a short one before the kids get too old. (My youngest is about to get his learner's permit. Time flies!)
We've done some pretty funny stuff in the name of arbitrary road trip rules. Our first trip was to drive all the way to Quartzsite, AZ just to get some beef jerky (hey, it's the best jerky!) Another long trip we made it a compulsive requirement to stop at anything labeled "world's biggest." We hit the world's biggest gift shop and the world's biggest spoon. One other biggest something too, I think, but I don't remember for sure.
I'm going to Big Rapids, Michigan to Ferris State for the finals of a National Welding Competition, should be good, wish me luck!
You're barely started...Biggest ball of barbed wire, twine, mud, Sod House, hand dug well...and that's just around these parts.😉
Lol...I never understood the "second hand smoke" fear. I smoked a couple packs a day from birth.🙃
Flying to WV in a few weeks to go spend some time with my dad, and then we’re heading to Ohio for a few days to watch the World 100 Late Model race at Eldora, basically the Daytona of dirt. First for both of us and can’t wait, got a nice Airbnb not far from the track on a farm.
We went to Universal Studios a month ago. Had a great time with the family. Stayed at Cabana Bay resort. Would definitely go back again!
Going to do the Woodward dream cruise. Hoping to have my '73 Mach1 running by then. If not taking my '71, daughter is taking wife's Avanti. Other than that just planning on rver time
Best of luck...welding can be an art.
One day Driving School at Laguna Seca with Allen Berg.
