I’m 12 weeks post op and, found out today I have another 6 weeks to go. Being stuck at home with huge limitations on what I can and, can’t do, I’m wondering what books you guys would suggest and, have read.
I just wrapped up McGrath’s Wide Open, previously read through Eric Gorr’s Motocross and, Off-road Performance Handbook along with, Race Tech’s Suspension manual.
I don’t care if it’s a book, manual or, just something cool to read about.
Thanks fellas.
The Inside Line
-by Rob Andrews. if you get lucky he may chat with you on this very forum.
If you like 80s MXGP then yes get Rob Andrews' "Inside Line". Super book. I was stationed in Germany 85 - 87 and got to see some GPs so that book brought back some great memories for me. Especially the Chapter on Namur. I went there 85 and 86. 85 was the best MX weekend I ever had.
I’m in the same boat, just had a full hip replacement done yesterday at age 32..lol. Got out of the car and walked around fine all evening yesterday, today is damn near unbearable. Watched a really good WW1 movie on Netflix today called “All quiet on the western front “, that’s all I’ve got for now
.
That’sa good movie lol. I watched it the first or, second week I was sitting at home.
I’m recovering from shoulder surgery.
Much like you, I have decent days and, others it’s a lot to deal with.
Worst part is nights. I’m still only getting about 3-4 hours of sleep each night.

Malcolm! An autobiography about Malcolm Smith is a great read.
Less MX but "The First Family of Racing" by Earl Hayden is good too.
Brad Lackey's 'Motocross Techniques, Training and, Tactics'. 'The Technique of Motocross' Ake Jonsson.
Can’t think of the title at the moment but the story of the guy that came up with the full floater design is decent. If you want to pay postage I will send it to you if I can find where I put it after reading!
Marc de reuve - open.
The Stolen Title- (The J. Falta story) by Gary Tippings
Monkey Butt. Rick Sieman
The Doug Henry Story. (Oh wait, that one hasn't been written yet.)
This the one you were thinking of?

18 weeks? Wow that's rough. Heal fast bud.
Not sure what your limitations are but maybe you could do the arrive and drive karts at Pacific Raceways. Just a thought.
When you do get back in the saddle it's a good idea to know how to tape up.
in the 80's I read a book by Jeff Spencer called total taping
He also wrote Total Training for Motocross
Read the entire first post yet?
Thanks man. 18 freaking weeks. I definitely don’t ever wanna go through this again. I’d rather deal with broken bones then torn tendons.
I’ll have to check out Pacific Raceways when I recover. Sounds fun. Are you talking about the one out in Kent?
Right now, I’m limited to only using my left arm. I’m still limited in my range of motion and strength on the right. Moving a couple small boxes around kicked my ass the other day.
I saw Village Idiots link and, your thumbs up. I just ordered it. I appreciate your offer man. Thank you.
It’ll be at my house Friday. 👍🏼
Mx book: "race tech's motorcycle suspension Bible."
Still haven't finished this book, but man, it's a good one.
Currently though, my favorite book is one called "leadership and self deception"
If you like self reflection, it's a good one. Helped me call out my own b.s.
Pit Row
Apparently my speed reading technique hit a braking bump and skipped over the first one he listed!
Motocross: The Golden Era.
Finding Cannon Balls Trail. Not pure “Moto” but an interesting read.
It’s the story of Don Emde and friends trying to retrace the exact route Erwin “Cannonball” Baker took during his 1914 world record cross country run on his Indian. San Diego to New York in 11-1/2 days, in 1914. Lots of old photos and the story of their cross country trip.
Thorpey, No Regrets 👍
Livin the dream
Jamie Dobb - a season in the life of a motocross world champion
The inside line
Non moto, but if you want to watch an excellent series check out “Hell On Wheels”. Not sure which platform it’s currently on…
Jamie Dobb and Dave Thorpe autobiography are good.
tbh I wish more riders would write an autobiography, I love reading sports persons stories but there are so few moto ones from recent years.
i do need to get my hand on Marc de Reuvers though, is it any good?
Thorpe was a great rider, not so much a writer. Kurt Nicoll published a book in 1998, not read it though.
Zen and the art of motorcycle repair. More of a novel, but you won't regret it. Also I second the "Grand Prix motocross: 1972". But it's way cheaper on we went fast website than the link above.
